MI is preparing for this October's official debut of the new Associate of Arts in Commercial Music Degree, an Occupational degree program for bass, guitar, drums, keyboards and vocals. The new six-quarter, 90-credit unit degree combines MI's classic four-quarter Performance Certificate program with an additional two quarters of intensive training in higher level musicianship, technique, and professional skills. Students also gain studio experience as they create demo CDs during instrument-specific recording sessions. Like MI's Performance Certificate and Bachelor Degree programs, the AA program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. The accreditation enables MI to grant government financial aid to Fall Debut for AA Program qualified US citizens and F-1 visas to non-citizens, and the all-music Occupational degree does not require General Education courses. AA graduates may also qualify for advanced placement in MI's Bachelor Degree program. For more details, visit www.mi.edu or contact an MI Admissions Representative.
On Saturday, July 30, GIT presents a special one-day intensive learning experience for San Francisco Bay Area guitarists. Veteran GIT instructor Daniel Gilbert will appear at Mount Diablo College in Pleasant Hill to present the GIT Experience, a special one-day seminar for guitar players of all styles and levels. At the Experience, Gilbert will offer insights into learning, practicing, applying techniques to various styles as well as a hands-on Q&A session and GIT-style 'open counseling' jam. The event is co-sponsored by Steve Sage, a former student of Gilbert who has himself become one of the Bay Area's most respected guitar teachers. The GIT Experience recalls the legendary Howard Roberts seminars that inspired GIT's founding, and Gilbert's own gift for clarifying complex ideas and efficient methods for developing technique has earned him a worldwide reputation as a player and teacher. For more information about the Bay Area GIT Experience, contact Coko Johnson (323) 860-1163, or check www.mi.edu regularly for updates (more events are in the planning stages).
