|
|
Hello,
I am looking for an audio editing software.
I have made a few recordings of an acoustic live band (friends of mine) with my Creative mp3-player. The files are in mono which I can change into stereo with Nero Wave Editor. I would like to improve the quality of the sound, mostly brilliance, dynamic and reverb. Additionally, the software should have a good equalizer.
I know there´s plenty of software around but can anybody recommend a few?
Thanks in advance! |

You should check right here. http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/AUDIO_EDITORS/
I'm gonna add a few things. What you have recoreded is not going to get much better just by editing. The recording quality of the track that you are trying to enhance, by making it stereo, will in effect be the same mono track except now it will come out of both cans(speakers). Forget panning, it ain't gonna happen:). You have listed equalizer last...this should be first in the chain when you make an attempt to "repair" this mono track. Might even want to look into audio restoration software first.
I would strongly recommend not even looking for any "reverb" until you have repaired this mono track. The reverb will serve to distort what you are tryinh to hear and in many cases is simply over-used by many in an attempt to sound current. Listen to your favorite songs and witness how sparingly reverb is used, if it is present at all. If the room was good then it has colored the tracks already with ambience. Anything in addition will add to the trouble of trying to enhance this mono track recorded via a sub-standard method.
Good luck, hope this helps, |

The end result, although it can be tweaked a little, will only be as
good as what's recorded in the first place.
The position of the microphone is critical to give a good balance as is
the co-operation of the band to set relative levels between instruments.
Having said that the end quality will only be as good as the equipment
used to record it.
As Brien says EQ is first in the chain but use it sparingly.
A stereo effect can be simulated by first splitting your recording into
two tracks with your Nero Wave Editor.
Then EQ (again sparingly) each track separately.
While leaving the middle freqencies alone boost the top end and cut
the bottom end on one track and do the reverse on the other.
This is not true stereo but it will widen the sound.
Experiment until you are happy with the result.
I use Sound Forge for my major editing but (although it has one) I much prefer the envelope function in Audacity (free prog) to adjust the overall levels eg. boost quiet sections and reduce the loud ones.
Once this is done the track/s can be normalised to bring them all to
the same relative level.
Gotta grab some tucker and go to work now, Cheers. |
