Hello there. I just bought a Mac, and I'm using Cubase SX3 as that seems to work for me. I was previously on PC but that sucked big time. Anyways, I was using FruityLoops to create drum patterns - you know, where you make simple patters like a bass and drum and make that part of a bigger pattern. I sometimes exported as midi and used cubase's drum sounds, or sometimes exported as a wave file. I am now looking for similar software to do that on for Mac OSX. I've downloaded most of the freeware and samples and shareware. I found doggiebox the best, although the free version seems a bit buggy - like when you edit the pattern while its still playing, it seems to not do as I expect. I'm not sure if the full version would have the same issues.
Can anybody out there recommend anything for what I'm trying to do (which is generally folk/rock/alternative) for real sounding drum kits that you can program in. I don't think samples are my thing as I write my own songs and have a specific sound in mind.
Sorry about the long post, I'm a newbie and I wanted to get my point across. Any advice will be appreciated.
Thankles..

It's a pity you didn't invest in a copy of ProLogic 7 to go with your Mac as you have some excellent tools with that in the "Ultrabeat" Drum sequencer and EXS sampler.
Anyway. although I'm not too familiar with Cubase, there are VST drum sequencers available that may now have versions available for OSX. This site is definitely the best place to look for those. The most essential thing to have is a sampler, as it is a doddle to program your own drum tracks in midi using a standard keyboard (mind you, I would say that as I'm a drummer! ).
Sorry I can't be a bit more helpful, but if you ever need drum tracks, I could probably set you up with some in no time at all. Check out my site for more details.

Thanks for the reply mate. I did try out Pro Logic but I had been using Cubase on PC, and it did everything I needed - and I didn't want to waste time on learning a new software, cos I am just a singer songwriter ya know ? I like to program drums in and am not into playing the drums via the midi keyboard. So far I've come across Doggiebox and FXPansions Guru software. I'm hoping there are better/easier sequencers out there, but I will opt for one of these if nothing else comes up. Oh - I do admit that Logic's effects are cooler, but again, I'm a singer songwriter - and when I do distort a guitar, its thru a pedal and my amp

Hi David
Oh, I quite understand that. I moved to Logic many years ago and its definitely not worth learning a new program once you've found one you're happy with.
When you get yourself sorted and you want a good free acoustic drum sampleset, I have made one using my stage kit. There are 4 file versions, and it's available for free from my site (OK, my reward is that I get to have you on my mailing list, but I'm not a spammer, I promise!).
To get a copy of this sampleset, click on the "FREE" neon sign on the homepage.
Best of luck with your music!
