FXpansion BFD and 2 expansion packs are now available.

BFD is a software acoustic drum module based around a library of acoustic drum kits and individual pieces, coupled with disk streaming and interactive groove engines that makes it far more accessible and flexible than using a general-purpose sampler with sample-CDs or pre-recorded drumloops.

BFD Features:

* Each drum is recorded through multiple mics -- you can blend direct, overhead, room and PZM mics via a simple interface.
* Easy compilation of new kits from a dedicated and straightforward interface - no hunting around for disks or samples; no complicated file management.
* A powerful, versatile automated drummer and rhythm composer - with over 1000 ready-to-use grooves - in the form of the BFD Groove Librarian
* Variable sound and feel thanks to BFD's dynamic humanization technologies.
* Compatibility with all the latest desktop DAW platforms - RTAS, VSTi, DXi, ReWire, AU and stand-alone on Mac OS X and Windows 2000/XP.

BFD was recorded at an LA recording studio by professional engineer Steve Duda (Nine Inch Nails, Pitchshifter, and A Perfect Circle) using the some of the very best microphones - including original AKG C-12s - and preamps. Every drum hit is recorded using a seventeen mic multi-track setup positioned around the kit and room, even including above/below snare and in/out bass mics - you can mix your drums by blending the mic sources just like in a real studio. Each kit piece is sampled at 24 bit with up to 46 velocity layers and hit in a variety of different styles.

In addition to the sound library, BFD also incorporates a comprehensive selection of 600+ ready-to-use MIDI grooves with different styles, feels and time signatures. The library features both programmed grooves and MIDI recordings of real drummers including top UK session drummer Chris Dagley (Jamiroquai, Eric Clapton). BFD's interactive Groove Librarian provides a front-end to these MIDI grooves - it can act as both an auto-accompaniment "drum machine", and a customizable, interactive drum composer with the ability to import custom MIDI files.

The second expansion is BFD XFL. BFD XFL is an expansion pack for FXpansion's BFD acoustic software drum module running on Windows and Mac. BFD XFL comprises no less than 22 Gigabytes of drum components, including many rare and hard-to-find vintage kit pieces as well as detailed hi-hats, pieces struck with brushes and mallets, cowbells and finger-snaps.

BFD XFL revisits Californian studio, Eldorado Recording, and professional audio engineer Steve Duda (NIN, Pitchshifter, A Perfect Circle) to give you the same ambience that gave BFD its character. All kit pieces for BFD XFL were recorded with the same top-end studio equipment and microphones as the original for complete sonic compatibility.

Features include:

* A broader range of drum kit pieces, many of which are struck with brushes and mallets; variations such as toms with damping tape on the skins, kick with felt beater, and hi-hats with mounted tambourine.
* A selection of percussion accessories and extra hits, including cowbells, jamblocks, tambourines, and even handclaps and finger snaps.
* Up to 93 velocity layers per articulation, for the ultimate in realism and responsiveness.
* Incredibly detailed hi hats recorded not only at the closed, 1/2-open and open positions of the original BFD, but also 1/4-open and 3/4-open positions -- each at many different velocities.
* A huge selection of rare and desirable kit pieces brings you even closer to assembling your dream kit!

The third expansion is the BFD 8 Bit Kit. BFD 8 Bit Kit is the highly anticipated second add-on pack for FXpansion's BFD software drum module system, offering exciting new flavours for your drum productions. The first BFD recording made at The Sound Factory in Los Angeles, 8 Bit Kit is the brainchild of S. Husky Hoskulds, recording engineer for production company 8 Bit Audio and responsible for recording such diverse artists as Tom Waits, Fantomas, Solomon Burke, Joe Henry, Sheryl Crow, The Wallflowers and many more.

Features include:

Unorthodox kit-pieces: A variety of custom, modified and downright weird kit-pieces recorded with an array of strange and wonderful mics. Highlights include kicks which are detuned and with chains attached; warped, cracked and mismatched hihats; junk percussion; and ethnic instruments such as framedrums, Moroccan tambourines and African hand drums.

A different recording space and mic setup: 8 Bit Kit was recorded in a different acoustic space, which offers a tighter and fatter sound than the Eldorado room used in BFD and BFD XFL, while still integrating perfectly with the system. The mics used reflect the esoteric theme of BFD - such oddities as parabolic 'Spy Mics', Calrec Soundfields and mics with a gramophone horn attached were used

Creative processing: 8 Bit Kit creatively uses BFD's mixing functions, such as providing processed versions of the sounds within certain mic channels. Many of the kit-pieces are provided in 'supersized' versions, featuring more extreme use of processing techniques such as compression, distortion and filtering.

Vintage analog drum machine sounds: A range of classic vintage electronic drum machines are captured both dry, and played out over a high quality PA system in the drum room. These sounds are perfect for layering with acoustic drums to create a more contemporary sound.
