| It sounds like you want to put any old piece of music in, like a regular song, and get sheet music out. It's unlikely to happen because software has problems with discerning which instruments are doing what in the song - in fact software has a hard time just trying to work out what instruments are there in the first place let alone which notes each one is playing. |

| Thanks but I am hopeful since it is a piano vocal recording and that is all I need on sheet music. |

Ok... I'l go into it in a bit more detail as if you only have vocals and piano then you might get a result that's ok with you.
But first things first.
You will need to convert your audio to MIDI to begin with.
This is where you will encounter your first major problem, because you're starting with an MP3 which is a lossy compression format instead of a lossless format like a WAV file. This means you've already lost important information about the music.
Most software for converting to MIDI requires that you first convert your MP3 to a WAV file - but some like Intelliscore Polyphonic will let you start with an MP3
You will find other polyphonic audio to MIDI converters on this site at http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/MIDI_CONVERTERS/
Once you have MIDI you will then need a Notation program to produce the sheet music from your MIDI file - you will find these at http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/NOTATION/
Now this stage is where it gets even more frustrating for two reasons- 1. the process of producing the MIDI file will leave some errors that you will have to manually fix 2. The score you end up with often won't be notated the way you prefer so you'll probably have to edit it manually for that reason too.
Software is good at converting One Instrument playing at a time... anymore than that - as in your case with piano and vocals - and it's nearly always easier to transcribe manually - we have an area on this site with software to help you to do this at http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/SLOW_DOWN_MUSIC/
If it doesn't work you could try separating the vocals and the piano before convertiing to MIDI if the recording is stereo recording with the vocals panned perfectly to the center of the mix - for more info on why this is difficult please read this post:

I hope this helps,
Jason. |
