A couple people have told me that there is a software out there that allows you to play on a keyboard and have the music show up on a computer. Well...they said something like that. Is there really a program out there that does that? If so, can someone give me details and possibly a site where I can go to to find out more?

I'd love to be able to see my music on paper. I do have Finale Notepad, but it's only the downloaded version from the website. It's very limited in what it provides.

Hopefully, someone can help me! Smile

you want some kind of midi software. digital performer is one that i'm familiar with, but it's not all that great, and very expensive, i presume. hopefully someone else can suggest a better one, but if not, look into that.

Hey Fang:

Try Cakewalk's "Home Studio". I've used it for years to do exactly what you're describing.

You didn't mention if you want it for a pc or mac!
As i know the best for mac are emagic logic (http://www.emagic.de/EN/index.html) and digital performer http://www.motu.com/ but they are expensive and complete studio not just a midi sequencer, over $700 but emagic logic has different versions start from around $300. (there is old version logic 5 for windows, but i don't know if it is available now).
for windows, the top ones (except pro tools, Nuendo maybe) are sonar http://www.cakewalk.com/ and cubase http://www.steinberg.de/ and they are also expensive and whole studios.
cakewalk home studio is a sonar cut version which is around $100.
There is a free one called Anvil studio http://www.anvilstudio.com/ but i don't know the limitations as i don't use it.
The top two that specialize in music notation are sibelius http://www.sibelius.com/ and finale http://www.finalemusic.com/ There are others like http://www.mozart.co.uk/ and http://www.vivaldistudio.com/ which are less expensive.

Soundplant is freeware. I guess it's not as good as the comercial products but it's worth a try > http://www.soundplant.org/about.htm[/url]

Try Cubase if you get a chance. It changed my life in the sequencer world once I got to know it. Whether it's scoring or just plain MIDI funtionality Cubase pretty much does the most with the most intuitive interface.
