|Trak Software announced the beta trial release of gigtrak, the web-based application for music management.
Anyone involved with the business side of music -- a manager, or promoter, or perhaps the guy in the group stuck with all the work of calling the band members -- knows that getting a band together is not simple. To make a live show, rehearsal, or recording session come off without a hitch requires a constant stream of communication.
gigtrak was developed by Colorado-based trak Software to help music professionals orchestrate schedules and coordinate details with the musicians, crew, venue owners, publicists, and so on. gigtrak was designed as a web-based application (webware) to simplify the workflow of music projects for all types of musical artists, ranging from famous acts on world tour to bands that play a few weddings a month.
This beta release of gigtrak concentrates on two markets: front-range Colorado and Boston. The first 100 musicians and their respective agencies and personnel in who sign up as beta testers receive free lifetime subscriptions to gigtrak in exchange for testing the service. Musicians outside of Boston and Denver, however, may also join as Charter Members to beta-test gigtrak and receive the same benefits.
According to trak software Lead Developer Mark Donovan, the full version of the webware application will be launched online sometime later this year as a subscription service. "The functionality built into gigtrak rivals software costing hundreds of thousands of dollars," said Donovan, who estimates the initial pricing model will be affordable even for casual users.
Designed and engineered by Donovan, who has worked as a touring musician, gigtrak has been built as the all-in-one solution for music management. More than just an email account, a contact list, or a calendar, gigtrak consolidates all the essential planning functions into a single intuitive online interface.
Previously, trak Software worked closely with clients in film production to develop filmtrak, which manages locations, actors, crew, equipment and scene schedules. The same database functionality is incorporated into gigtrak -- applied to the specific needs of booking venues and preparing for performances.
The advanced programming of gigtrak streamlines contact management by eliminating the repetitive steps of information exchange among multiple users and the distribution of tasks over several desktop applications. Other functions of tour management and the business of booking will become automated with subsequent versions of gigtrak, including direct interaction with mobile devices such as cellphones.
Not only does gigtrak keep musicians, publicity and crew on the same page, gigtrak itself is on one page. All transactions and information displays occur in a single self-updating workspace. This rich online application has been developed with Macromedia's Flash 7.0 and trak Software's Rapid Interface Build (RIB) query engine. Faster, simpler, and more reliable than the typical web application comprised of a series of HTML pages, gigtrak exists as a single browser page with the functionality and user-affability rivaling most stand-alone desktop applications.
Because gigtrak is completely web-based, members can access their personal business information anywhere the internet can be accessed. gigtrak also serves as an extended network of music-related contacts throughout the industry.
