One thing that is driving me MAD, that I hope *someone* out there can help me with....
I'm using a PC to copy FROM CD-as well as downloaded stuff, to an MP3 type thing. (It says VIAO on it....someone more technical than me should know what I've got from that....).
I use a program called "Sonic Stage". It comes out fine, but is utterly quiet. Using louder headphones doesen't seem to improve matters much...and that is with the volume on full, and all the EQ on full.
The other day, I realise just how low the record level is set.
When I record onto (digital audio) CD, or minidisc, I set the record level so that the loudest peak registers at 0, or (slightly into the red) +1, when I play the music back. (To give you some idea, an average pre-recorded CD displays the peak sounds at between 0 & -2).
Plugging my MP3 type thing into my amp, I found that the PEAK sounds were coming out at around -15.
Copying stuff I've downloaded (or been sent) back to CD, or minidisc, I *am* able to get the volume to the level it should be, like so....
1. record from vaio -> md, set the record level knob on the md to full
2. record from md -> cd, again set the record level knob on the cd burner to full
This restores the volume, but, also brings in a hissing noise.
Does anyone know how to adjust the record level on Sonic Stage? Once this is done, this should solve all the problems.... |
