Does anybody know of a program which will do the sorts of things that Acid does, preferably free- or maybe share-ware? I'm particularly interested in the "painting with loops" aspect, using loops that I've recorded myself; so recording facilities, MIDI etc. aren't important.

The ability to read saved Acid projects would be great, but I don't realistically expect to find that.

I used to use Acid Music 3, and got on well with it... I say "used to", because after reinstalling everything on a new computer I discovered that I couldn't find the serial number for Acid, and since mine was bought from Sonic Foundry I didn't reckon I stood much chance of getting it back from Sony. Sad In any case, I don't do music very much any more, but I do have a few old projects that I'd like to finish off if I could.

Maybe Kristal ( http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/KRISTAL/ ) or DDClip Free ( http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/DDClip_Free/ ) Neither will be as handy as ACID for what you want, but both are free so it can't hurt to check em out.

Than there is Acid Express

Thanks userdude, Kristal and DDClip both look worth checking out, although neither seems to offer the loop-based approach I was after.

However major thanks for reminding me about Acid Express. See, I said I'd been out of the loop for a while (pun intended). Laughing I should be able to open most of my projects with it, I don't think I went above 10 tracks.

I look like this now Arrow Very Happy
