hi , i'm starting to get interested into music sampling, but since i'm not a musician i hardly now anything about this matter.
I've got quite a load of MP3 and i'd like to know if it's possible to extract the different 'layers' of a song and sample up together from software or do i need a sophisticated machine to handle this kindda stuff.

so i'm looking for an easy to handle first use software, with a little tutorial would be nice, has anyone got any suggestions?

Hi there,

It's not really possible to extract tracks (layers as you called them) independently of each other if you only have a final mix of the song, you need the original multitrack recording to do that reliably.

You can extract some parts of a song with clever use of EQ - usually this will allow you to grab snippets of bass or drums or maybe even a guitar lick or short piece of vocals.

You can extract vocals by themselves in some cases - but not reliably - see these tutorials:
DFreqTIP - Extracting the Lead Vocal
DFreqTIP - Eliminating the Lead Vocal

There are two good programs for working with samples that both have a lot of tutorials online - try these:
Ableton Live
ACID Express (this one is free)

I hope this helps,
Jason
