Hi,
I am a newbie. I am looking for a software -free, if possible- to convert m4a files to wav.
Could anybody help me, please?
Cheers!

Why not use iTunes, provided you have the file there (which is very likely)?

It's free, and if anyone knows the exact format of m4a files, it's Apple Smile

In iTunes do this:

- In Edit/Preferences, select the Advanced tab.
- Under "Import Using", select "WAV Encoder"
- Click OK to leave preferences

In your Music library, right-click the tune, and select "Convert Selection to WAV". iTunes will now create the WAV file (and add it to your library).

Voila! It's free, and you have it right at your fingertips Smile

You can obviously create other formats by making other selections in the Preferences menu.

Have fun with it...

when anything is related to iTunes, there is no freeware available

many programs can convert m4a to mp3, but I haven't found a free one.

You may try NoteCable and it is the easiest one

I agree with you. I can't see a freeware in converting m4a or mp4 to mp3. I've tested NoteCable and it is good and simple as fifward said. Another software such as TunePat or NoteBurner. Also works perfect. Very Happy

I agree, it's difficult to find a good freeware converter, I gave up searching..
You can try Yasa video converter, it supports many popular formats and can extract audio from video.

There is one but you won't find it by searching for m4a to wav converter.
Just tried that.
This app from Koyote Soft will do it though.
It works - I've tried it.
