The information we presented was relevant to an "xm" type file.

Show us where you located this chiptunes mptrack, just so we have the information in the future.

XM files are radio streaming files. The XM file probably doesn't hold the music itself, but is merely an index file for the broadcast. The only way to create an MP3 of the music itself is to record it in real time as it plays on your computer.

There are a number of software applications that can capture real time streaming audio. Some will convert to MP3 format at the same time. Others will save it as a WAV file that would need to be converted later.

Please bear in mind that the music is streamed in this fashion for several reasons. The main reason is that many artists want you to listen to their songs, but not download them. Copying radio broadcasts by the use of ripping software is an infringement of copyright in most countries.

here's link: http://pweb.jps.net/~olivierl/utils/mpp146.zip
that opens them and when opened you can save to wav there's a button called save wav and then its easy to convert to mp3 etc it takes only like 2 seconds instead of hearing the whole song....
