Hi,
I want to create Mixtapes on the computer. BPM studio seems great, but it's far too expensive. I'm looking for recommendations for appropriate software. I know the directory, but please recommend a program. I don't want to install all of them.
Thanks in advance!!!!

You want us to guess?
While I'm trying to figure out if you have a dual core Mac or a 286mHz Windows 3.1 computer maybe you should give us a detailed and focused explanation of what it is you are trying to achieve and with what kind of hardware.
What is a mixtape? I mean, really. |

From my experience a "mix tape" has been something different, depending on the era. In the late sixties and early seventies, a mix tape was an assortment of tracks recorded off of AM radio. [Hey, at least I used the AUX inputs on my portable cassette] I did go through an 8-track cartridge phase, and did record off of the radio then, too. 8-tracks were a pain to cue. As I "graduated" to FM and stereo and magnetic phono cartridges and got back in to cassettes, my mix tapes started to be "personal favourites" compilations. Up to this point, any smooth segue from song to song was purely by chance. Introduce the
"mixing board". Now I could record "non-stop" music mixes. In 1986 [or around there] I made a 6 hour non stop VHS HIFI tape. Fast forward a few years to the days of the internet before the death of Napster. Mix tapes were very easy to make. Drag your selection of tracks in to your mp3 playing software, have the output of your soundcard connected to the input of your cassette deck, etc. Ok, now we take a bit of a sidestep. At this point chronologically, the technology is available to beatmatch tracks together and make "non stop dance mixes". [some "purists" and "turntablists" would claim that if you can't do it "on the fly" it doesn't count.] All of this could be completely irrelevant .
Perhaps what freestylemix2 is looking for is a DJ Mixing software or a software for REmixing tracks or a combination of the two.
I'm totally confused now. Not that that is a new experience for me |

Well it must be spreading.
Thanks for the info. As you already know, I know what the mixtape is, in essence, but I was trying to see if the original player was still...playing.
Hit and run, that's the way it shacks out...hit and run. |
