Ok, I have an Alesis Micron synth. The programs I have are Reason 2.5, Cubase SX, and Garage Band.
I'm trying to get the programs, patters and sounds from my Micron to play and record into my computer. I can play the synths and whatnot that are built into Reason and Garage band, but I want to record what I have made on the Micron. I know that Reason can't do what I want, but I thought that Cubase could. I have it all set up correctly, but I can't get it set up right on my computer.
I think I have to send the sysex stuff over to the programs, but I'm not sure. And if I do, I don't know how to set that up.
If it matters, I have a G4 Powerbook and a Tuscam us-122 midi interface.
If anyone can recomend any other programs or can offer any help or tutorials, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. |

I'm not under the impression that Garageband outputs midi information from it's midi files (for you, this would obviously be through the Tascam). I haven't used it that often though so don't call me on it..
If you use Cubase, you could import the patterns and audio outputs from the micro synth through midi and audio respectively. Connect the synth to the midi and audio input on the Tascam. Set up a midi and audio track to record. Press record on Cubase (you will probably need to make sure that MTC is set up on both systems so that Cubase follows the tempo of the songs/patterns on the Synth. How you do this depends on your decision as to whether you make Cubase the MTC master or slave. I personally would make Cubase the MTC Slave and the Micron the Slave under these circumstances). You should then be able to start and stop the Micron and Cubase will pick up on the tempo from the Micron whilst recording which should give you a perfectly synced recording of both Midi and Audio.
If you have a multi part song on the Micron, you could just record track by track by muting all but one of the tracks on the Micron at a time. Just make sure you take the time to learn how to sync them both Cubase and the Micron together using MTC (midi time code).
