Hi there
I am new to this forum and have read through many posts but cannot find any information on wat I require. Basically I am a musician who got into computer music 3 yeas ago. I love it, and use the tracks I develop to play live. However therein lies my problem. Currently when playing I have t insert long pauses in the tracks in order to be able to stop them in time between tracks to talk to the audience for example.
Is there any MP3 software available that will play trcks one by one and stop after each track ends?

I had the same sort of problem running the backing tracks for a singer.
I presume you're using a laptop.
I tried using DJ decks and they work fine but need a mouse to load the next track, at least on the freebies I tried.
I finished up using winamp as the default player.(don't scoff).
All you need is the down arrow and enter.
Create a folder and copy and paste your requred tracks into it.
Number the tracks in the required order.
Create a shortcut on the desktop to it.
Open the folder on the desktop and then start winamp.
Highlight the first track in the folder and hit enter to play it.
There's only one song on the playlist so it plays and stops.
Hit the down arrow to highlight the next track and enter when ready to play and so on.
I've been using this method for about three years on stage and had no problems.
It's also handy for practice at home for ease of access to the required track.
The method works best with a pre-determined bracket of songs in a set order. If all your songs are in one folder then the left/right arrows come in to play to navigate to the next one.
Just a thought.

Update.
Just a bit more info on procedure.
Version: Winamp Modern
Color scheme: Goldrush (my pref for legibility)
Set to "always on top".
This version has a crossfade function for continuous play during breaks
using the Winamp playlists. Put a shortcut to each on the desktop.
You can set Winamp to stop after each song, down arrow to next then
enter to play. The big disadvantages are 1: that the first song starts as soon as the list is loaded and 2: you can't play continuous music during breaks without changing the settings. Solution: see last post.
To set crossfade.
Open the equaliser (config button).
Switch crossfade on (button on left below balance control)
Set crossfade duration to the right of this. (my pref about half way)
They have no labels just tooltips on hovering over buttons.
Keyboard shortcuts can be user designated.
I use "Enter" for play, " \ " for stop and " ] " for pause.
If, like I did you designate P for play and S for stop you can't use those
letters when naming the playlists. Oops.
Okay so it's not plug and play like a DJ prog and it takes a bit of setting up, but it does get the on-stage operation you need.
Desktop set-up.
Shortcuts to bracket folders.
Shortcuts to playlists.
Winamp.
Example gig.
1: Highlight 1st playlist shortcut then enter to play background music till ready.
2: Open 1st bracket folder while backing music playing and highlight first song.
3: (Presuming you're using a mixing desk/PA) fade out background music then hit stop.
4: Put fader back to previous level and when ready to sing hit enter.
5: When song finishes use down arrow to highlight next song and enter when ready to play and so on.
6: At end of bracket you'll need the mouse to highlight the next playlist shortcut then hit enter.
7: Repeat 2-6. (I had Winamp running while typing this and the ( - ) wouldn't work - see keyboard shortcuts bit).
Looks complicated when written like this but is easy to use on stage.
Be interested to hear if you've tried it and what you think.
