Thanks very much that model is very similar to the one that I have here. Luckily, i sent the person who offered to PDF the manual for the original Porta Two an email and he said he would send it to me once he makes a PDF |

Pstewart-
Did you get anything on that yet? I found this thread while looking for one also, and PM'd him, but didn't get anything back. Didn't know if he had gotten around to scanning it yet. Tascam should offer to send a batch of old books to someone in exchange for clean scanned versions they can keep in their download section. Everything should have a PDF in 2008.

yes, he did indeed get back to me. he had the PDF made up, but unfortunately he lives somewhere in Europe while i live in the UK, he mentioned that it was risky to "send files across the pond" and instead offered to post it on my own website... but i dont have one so i never got back to him on that |

I don't mind telling you, this guy sounds like he was up to something.
As an attachment in an email, where is the risk?
Why would he need to have your access information is what comes to mind first. And in order for him to post it to "your" site...you would have to give up some information.
Why couldn't the pdf be placed on HIS website?
That is why I try to get involved with these kinds of transactions...I just don't trust the good will :) Now THAT is sad...but it is what it is ;) |

Hey all,
Yeah, it's the "real" Porta Two, not the smal more current one. Mine is the one before the HS version came out, so it only does 1&7/8ips. Most of my tapes come from a 246 (now that was big) and a Yamaha MT100(?). They're mostly high speed, so I'm now looking for a second one.
On a side note, the Porta Two now seems to refuse to go into play mode and I'm looking for help on it:

Someone gave me that machine a while back and it worked, but it's been sitting around a while. I probably could figure it out, I just like to have actual manuals (and service manuals) to stuff I've got.
I really want a cheap 234 to refurbish now instead, but seeing that there was a less popular 134 which did both speeds, I may look for that instead. I've got an outboard dbx box here and could grab a second one (134 was just Dolby). If anybody has a cheap one, let me know.
Take Care,
George |
