Hi Brian
I am a vocal coach, I live in Auckland in New Zealand.
Yes there are specific vocal exercises for healing the voice. But before I would recomend a particular exercise to you, I would need to hear a mp3 recording of your voice.
Believe it or not, most inexperienced to intermediate singers- ie (people that can hold a tune but cant acsess their full range and havnt learnt how to blend their chest and head voice properly (master the bridge areas of their voice)
Will do more damage to their voice when performing warm down or vocal repair exercises simply because they still end up pushing their vocal chords too hard.
A simple huming exercise is fantastic for reducing the damage that your vocal chords recieve when you apply unatural stress or apply too greater pressure too the chords during a performance. But even if you hum softly, you can still do damage to your voice if your still manipulating the muslces outside your laraynx to help you produce your range or even your vocal tone.
So the best advice that I can give you, is to find a recongnised vocal teacher that can instruct you in voice level vocal production.
(google seth rigs)
Whether you sing opera metal rnb or pop, there is actually only one correct way to sing, once you have studied voice level singing, you will be ablle to understand how to safely inflect your voice with what ever vocal effects you need to get your sound!
