| Can anyone recommend any really good vocal recording software? I have downloaded about six but the recording and playback is really poor. The voice sounds robotic, the sound is speeded up and there is a lot of crackling! I need to be able to record my voice with a playback of crystal clear clarity. Can anyone recommend some software which will do this? I would really appreciate your help. |

Certainly, there are no dedicated vocal recording soft out there. Instead there are a ton of multitrack and stereo recording programms none of which will deterioate you voice unless you have properly configured your computer. Most of this regards proper use and choose of sound card. For good vocal sound you need at least 3 things:
1) a decent sound card- not the built in one, but at least Creative Sound Blaster Audigy line (semi-professional grade would be better but then you need one with a mic input. Look at M-Audio or Terratec)
2) a quality mic- not the one of your PC headset or something like that , accesories like pop screen to it and miking technique- the right distance,
3) a know how- which kind of mics to plug in which kind of mic inputs ( electret with powering from sound card, dynamic with balanced and unbalanced cables and connectors, condenser with balanced cables which need phantom powering from pro sound cards or mic pres or small mixers.
So noone speeds up crackles your voice- a bit of know how and forward! |

| P.S. I could recommend Sony Vegas 7. It has a fast learning curve, has very good, intuitive GUI (grafic user interface) which helps a lot in simple or eleborate editing. It is good not only for audio, but for audio to video too. But it misses MIDI sequencing abilities- may be you don't need them?! |

| What type of operating software is on your computer? Sounds like WinXP if it is "speeding" things up. Also the crackling you referred to may not be a result of the recording software but can be due to USB interferance or latency issues. Compatability between your soundcard and motherboard "could" be creating these issues you described. |
