I've been a musician for twelve years now - long time vocalist and guitarist. I have finally come "into my own" this year (must have been all the booze!), and I will be recording in a decent studio this week or the next. I'm also fairly talented in making up beats, I often hear them in my head while I play and write.
As such, I am looking for ANY advice, tutorials, etc., in regards to diving into music software. I'd like to be able to create baseline percussion and sound effects to add to the recordings I will be making soon. I've been heavily influenced by radiohead, to give you some idea of what I'm aiming at... though undoubtedly I have some work ahead of me.  |

I think you write it as you go along. Too many variables too many different situations, cultures, ect.
Best I know is you have to keep moving towards something...you define what that something is.
When software is made as the central focus ALL you are going to get are opinions from users. It fits them and they explain why and they will try to make you a believer and potential buyer.
Money and direction. These two things will guide you a long way as well. If you know your direction, realistic, and you have sampled and tried and used software that is geared towards what it is you are want to do, then you will know what to purchase.
Trust me, you can get caught up in the "thrill" and never amount anything other then lots of software titles that you rarely use. Define what you want and get with like minded folks that can help you steer towards that. |

very cool. like I said I will be meeting with a friend who flows and another who has plenty of software and recording equipment to at least get a better idea of where the sound is.
I do have a direction - though to define it in words before I've even hashed it up officially would raise some irrational expectations into the fold. I just feel like I am ready to let what happens happen, it's a good thing. |
