Didn't find anything appropriate on this site.

Records to WAV/MP3/AIFF
Downloaded from free software site.
Works OK but very ...

The type of recording program you are refering too is
a multitrack, for example Mixcraft or Audacity.
Each track, guitar, bass, drums etc has it's own dedicated

USB, now that's what I call lateral thinking.
Cheap too.

Wav file big.
MP3 file small. Smaller capacity USB drive.
Is it possible to record direct to MP3?

Yes it is stealing if you give legally purchased/downloaded music
to someone else.
This form of copy restriction limits playback to the pc.
