connection of midi keyboard to computer

I am new to this midi business. I own a yamaha keyboard with MIDI
in/out ports. I will like someone to tell me,o where do I connect my
MIDI line into my computer. What software does a beginner like myself
require to enter this exiting multimedia field.

thanks.

Re: connection of midi keyboard to computer

If u'r soundcard doesn't have a midi out connection at the back that means u have to plug it into u'r 15-pin port on u'r sound card, but u'll need a midi to 15-pin cable, or, u can buy another sound card

Re: connection of midi keyboard to computer

Does anybody have the pin outs for the D15 connector to double 5 pin DIN, for connection to a Yamaha keyboard.

Thanks
