Software Description

My own version of a "big" soundfont. This borrows heavily from Jeff's original Musica Theoria on which it's based, but I've changed many instruments in it and re-looped almost all. Every instrument represents the best of the free soundfonts I've been able to find. Nearly all of the soundfonts in PC312 are better than anything commercially available.

This soundfont is not only big in size, it's big in sound - full rich bass and lots of presence to the solo instruments. It includes all the individual instruments on the Soundfonts page, plus lots more from Emu and other collections like Unison and Musica Theoria. I used the Buzzwood MIDI test files (on the MIDI page) to make sure there's no really strange sounds anywhere, and supplemented them with a collection of MIDI files to showcase critical instruments in "real life" usage to make sure I had found the best instruments I could and to make sure they all work together to produce a good ensemble.

This soundfont breaks the "32k barrier", but it works just fine in my Live.

This version of the Personal Copy soundfont has many incremental improvements - most in the drum sounds, but several other instruments have been modified and tweaked based on user feedback to improve the overall quality of the soundfont.

Re: "32k barrier"

: personal copy 4.2 is a great sound font
: but how can i configurate my "soundblaster live" card to accept more than 32Mo in the soundfont configuration?

The SBLive card must be able to create a static cache at least as large
as the soundfont you're trying to load. BUT - the static cache
can be no larger than 50% of the installed system memory.

To load PC4.2 you must have at least 128MB of motherboard memory as the
soundfont itself is just over 50MB.

easy. get more ram. sblives use as much ram as they can according to your system. i have 160 mb ram, and i can get about 70mb into my live.

The fonts doesn´t fit my SB live card!

Yesterday i downloaded the v4.0.2 personal copy soundfont. I spend four hours and when i tried to install it, my computer gave me the message, that the font format is incorrect. I have tried several times...

By the way, opening the files, it seems as if there´s more midifiles ( songs ) than fonts? Are those demoes or what? Until now, all I have is a bunch of midifiles and no placeable fonts - I need fonts..

Please help

SfarK files are compressed. you need to download the sfark decompressor.. it's on the same page as the sound font. as for midis, there's always going to be more midis than fonts.. anyone can make a midi.. not anyone can make a font. and midis are platform independent... fonts and banks are pretty much based upon what card / synth you're using.

The fonts doesn´t fit my soundcard

Now i have spend four hours downloading the 4.0.2 personal copy. I cannot place it in my soundcard - no matter how i try, i get the note that the format is not right. I have a SB live card and that should work shouldn´t it? By the way, what are all those midi files about, i didn´t ask for those, i need sound fonts instead!

The confused..

Uhm, if you look at the file description right above here, you'll see that he bundled the midi files for you to hear the sound font in action. Pay attention people!

help with sound fonts

Can anybody help? I've got a sb live card with 128mb of ram. I downloaded a huge sound font that took ages and I was really looking forward to it, after about 3 hours it had finished downloading, I then fount out that it was paked with a funny program, so I downloaded that and unpacked (This took too long). Right, now I was ready to put it into the card, so, I open the sound font manager, increase the cache to max 9It goes up to 63mb on mine) and try to load the font, well, to my surprise the font is too big for my cache!!!! This annoyed me, so, can anyone tell me how I can increase my cache size without buying more memory, I only need 2 more meg as well for thisa font (look at that for sods law). Email me with answers, please

Sound Fonts

Hi,
I use Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and I'm thinking of buying the Soundblaster Platinum Card to use sound fonts. Is there a book about sound fonts that could help me learn to use them with Pro Audio 9? I'm not new to midi but the concept of sound fonts is something I don't quite grasp yet.
Thanks for your help.

I don't know about a book, but cakewalk lets you load sound fonts right into your card right inside cakewalk. you don't need to load them externally. i haven't used 9 yet, but in 8 it's under Tools -> Sound Fonts and all you do is dictate which bank uses which font... The complicated (read annoying) part, is then getting your instruments to use the fonts. As i said, i haven't used 9, but in 8 you have to go to your track properties-> set your instrument to a new channel, set your Bank Select Method to Controller 0* , and then set the bank number to the specific font bank. the instruments for the bank will show up in the instrument drop down list, if you have everything else set up right.
i hope that helps you
