Software Description

Q80UTIL is a free DOS utility that allows one to manipulate diskettes from the Kawai Q-80 MIDI sequencer. You can copy to and from the q-80 disk, delete, and list the directory with disk statistics. This program is useful for backing up sequences or transferring sequences to other Q-80 owners via modem, 'net, etc

tengo interes de comprar el sofward del conversor de seq kawai q80 ex cuanto sale y como es el pago poque medio (contrarembolso)lo prove y me convirtio solo una cancion quisiera que me mandaran como se maneja el programa todo en castellano espero sus respuesta

How can I convert my Kawai discs to standard midi files, as my machine keeps breaking down and wish to purchase a different machine but don`t want to have to re-do all my files

You dont need to cover the hole up the Q80 does not recongnise it ; all you need to do is put it in and reformat it.

Q80 disk format

I'm trying to make a Windows version of Q80Util, but I can't find any info (and can't understand by myself...) about how Q80-disks are written...
I mean, I managed to access the disk and I can read the sectors, but I can't find a FAT or something like that to know how files are stored in the disk.
If anybody has any information about this, please answer me, or send me an e-mail.

It did some tricky things to make the floppy drive read disks of unusual dimensions, which might not work under windows XP.

If I get some free time, I'll have a look to see if it'll work under XP. I only have a usb floppy drive, so I'll have to see how that handles requests from DOS emulation mode on XP.

I tried to find an address for Paul,without success ,thanks to Google!

I'm new to the Kawai Q80, as an oldie assisting our church organist.
Your Q80util program seemed to be what I was after to organise our collection of songs.
However I formatted a 3.25" floppy in our Q80 and on putting it into my PC (WinXP) the screen reported "not a Q80 disk"

Have you any suggestions? After reading your text file and the mention of Q80EX I searched but could only find Q-80 on our sequencer.

Hi,

If you look at the top of the DS/HD Diskette you will find 2 holes. One of them make the diskette writable or not. The other one is used for the drive to recognize it as a High density diskette. You just need to cover this hole with a small piece of tape at the both sides, and that's it!!. Now the Q80 will recognize it as a DS/DD 3.5" 720Kb diskette. You just need to format it with the sequencer util and your done.

TRY THIS,format a D.D disc on your computer,save a sng file on it from Q80.Put the disc back in the computer and see if you can see the sng file.If so create a folder and send your sng files to it.If you want to put them back to your Q80 use D.D discs that are formated on your P.C
