Fruity Loops and Sample Substaining and Cutoff.

How do you control the note length(how long the note is held) in
fruity loops.

I mean, I either get a really short electric piano sample, which won't
substain a note(ie. like a whole note)

Or I get a sample like a Pad which seems to go on forever and never
cuts off.

Fruity Loops is great but I haven't figured out how to control the
note duration....

Ignore Sinatra, he's off base on this one.

With Fruity, you have a looping sample that just plays forever? Set it to
cut itself, then place a note with 0 velocity (volume) at the point that you
want it to cut off. Viola!

Also works for very long non-looping samples. What I'd like is to be able
to play a sample from any point in that sample besides the beginning without
having to run it through an editor.

Well, you can't really "sustain" a sample - I mean, the sample plays and it
is only so long, right? Samples can be looped (which may work for some
types of sounds), but generally not held in a way that sounds like you're
pressing a keyboard key. That's just what a sample is .. The pads you're
talking about are either long samples (unlikely) or synth engines (whatever
plug-in or synth you're using) generating the sound - for these instruments
you CAN affect the note length, very easily. Go to piano roll mode and you
can stretch the notes as long or as short as you want (click and drag). I
think you can adjust all of the parameters (note length, velocity, res, cut
etc.) of each individual notes by right clicking on the note in Piano Roll
(although I don't have Fruity in front of me). Regardless - you want
piano-roll mode for better control of note parameters....

Sometimes I find that some 3rd party plug-in synths (RCG Pentagon, for one)
don't respond to "off" signals very well - you can get around this by
automating the volume knob to fade or cut out at the appropriate spot on the
pattern.

Email me if you need a manual.

Re: Fruity Loops and Sample Substaining and Cutoff.

Ya I know samples can't really be technically extended but I think in
mods(tracking) for instance which is similar to Fruity Loops structure
the sample can be extended by looping the final part of the sample...

ahhh whatever, I dunno...

I know I could always use synths, but fruity loops is fun :P

Sorry I won't help you on this one,but get Reason.

I got Reason and use it...

but I'm using Fruity Loops right now and it's good for making quick loop music....
