First steps to making techno?

I am have recently thought about creating my own techno song. I am really new and have only composed music on my guitar before using a program called TabIt. I was wondering what programs would be good for a first time user to creat some techno. I already have the beat and sound effex in my head and just need a good easy to learn program so i can put it all down. Please e-mail me an answer as well as post one as i do not monitor the message boards at all times. THANKS ALLOT FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP!!!
