Hey y'all,
I think this is gonna answer alot of peoples' questions here. It took me a lot of searching to find this out, so I hope you appreciate it! I found a method of going from .ram to mp3 format. Here is what you need to do:
1. Download WinAmp.
2. Download WinAmp OUTPUT plugin (linked here)http://ftp.winamp.com/components/P/out_mp3.exe
3. Download NetShow Tools (4 MB download) (linked here)
http://mskyus.www.conxion.com/msdownload/netshow/3.01/x86/en/nstools.exe
4. Install all above programs.
5. Run WinAmp and press Ctrl-P to bring up preferences menu.
6. At left you should see an output window. Click on that and then on the right window double-click Nullsoft MP3 Output Plugin.
7. Select a directory where you want the converted mp3's to go. Close the preference window.
8. Now go to Internet Explorer. Right click on the .ram file, and select 'copy shortcut'.
9. Go back to WinAmp, and in the lower left hand corner, there should be a button where you can 'add url'.
10. Paste the copied shortcut of the .ram file in the box and press return.
11. Press play and the tranfer should begin! To set the preferences back so you can play stuff again, go back to the preferences menu and select the output as Nullsoft waveout plugin. Close window and you're set!

I hope this info helps! Let me know if I left anything out or if there are any problems. One Love.

Your Rm --> mp3 link for winamp does not work!!!

RAM-->MP3 WORKS! UPDATED 4/8/01

Here is one technique to convert from .ram to .mp3.

1. download and install winamp
2. download and install this program from this link
http://www.winamp.com/components/download_component.jhtml?filename=http%3A%2F%2F
ftp.winamp.com%2Fcustomize%2Fcomponent%2F2000%2F11%2F23%2FP%2FStreaming_RealAudio
__Player.exe&componentid=34379

3. run winamp
4. press ctrl-p to get into preferences
5. go to "file types" and make sure RA, RAM, RM, etc are selected
6. click close to get back to main winamp screen

I forgot this: press ctrl-p again, and this time go to "output". click on the
thing that says out_mp3.dll
close the window and go to step 7

7. go to the website where the streaming audio is
8. on the link, right click and "copy shortcut"
9. go back to winamp, and click on "add" (lower left of winamp)
10. click on "add url"
11. paste the shortcut you copied before into the space and press enter
12. play your file
13. mp3 should end up on your desktop or wherever you specified in your
preferences. if you can't find it, do a search

I'm pretty sure this works. Thing is, you have to have a fast connection for it
to record correctly, or you're gonna end up with an mp3 with gaps and spaces in
it. The concept is pretty simple, you're basically using winamp as a tape
recorder, so whatever comes out is what you're gonna get. So if there are gaps
and stuff due to buffering, that's gonna be in the mp3..

Hope this helps, email me at ehsieh@hiphopmail.com if you have a question. peace

Eric

I had put an mp3 file as the background music for my website but it does not work when I upload the site , though it does work when I preview my site in Front Page 2000. I had to convert the mp3 file to .wav and then upload that file and I got the bg music on by website. Any comment why that happens. Also when you convert an mp3 to .wav, the file size increases substancially, in my case, it increased from 1.5 MB to 18 MB.

Oh, I forgot to add that you also have to download the innoreal plugin to be able to read .ram files through WinAmp to start with. You can get that here.
http://ftp.winamp.com/components/P/innoreal_15.exe

Install this after you install WinAmp. Best of luck!

I can't find the innoreal program that you are talking about, it's a broken link. Is there any ways to get the program from some place else?
