Howard Jones will always be remembered for his 80s hits New Song, Like To Get To Know You Well and What Is Love?, but he’s been hugely busy since then releasing albums of a consistently high standard and performing many sell out shows around the world. 2005 saw the release of Revolution Of The Heart, which was co-written, produced and mixed by Robbie Bronnimann. Alongside Howard’s classic gear is a whole selection of newer, state of the art equipment including Novation keyboards and a Focusrite Liquid Channel which Robbie used on the tail end of the album and on an album he produced by new Sony signings, Industrial Salt.

“I wanted to approach vocal recording as a creative thing with choices for character of sound instead of a functional vocal chain that tracked everything as neutrally as possible,” says Robbie. “With Howard it was for some extra vocals but with Industrial Salt it enabled me to store the LC patches along with finished Logic project files so I could go back and spot things in if necessary which I did a number of times.”

“I love the vast palette of sounds that you can achieve,” he continues, “but I really like having the Liquid Channel software on my G5 when recording so I can ride levels etc during the process without having to stoop over a rack.”

“It sounds fantastic, it’s brilliantly engineered and it’s got total recall.

You can’t say fairer than that, and when it comes to keyboards, both Robbie and Howard are big Novation users…

“I am a massive Novation fan,” says Robbie. “I currently own a ReMOTE 25, ReMOTE 64, X-Station, K-Station plus the V-Station & BassStation plug-ins. When I’m on the road with Howard Jones we have total of seven Novation keyboards – two KS-4s, two K-Stations, two ReMOTE 25s and an X-Station!”

“I love the fact that Novation controllers don’t try to be the cheapest but have great actions, displays and quality encoders plus software editors to make them easy to set up. I have a dance project called tektonik^ with producer Andy Ross & we control Ableton Live 5 from them which is fantastic!”

“Focusrite/Novation are one of the best UK hi-tech success stories and I reckon both divisions of the company will continue to produce quality products that came from a 'thinking outside the box' kind of mentality.”
