Can you convert .ecw to .sf2

I just read that you can simply change the file extension from .ecw to .sf2 and vice versa for using the gm banks on both cards - dunno if it works - just give it a try ...

I tried to rename a .sf2 file to .ecw in order to get it working on my ensoniq (1370) card.
This didn't work for me. (but this doesn't mean is doesn't work the other way 'round...)

I just tried to simply rename an .ecw file to an .sf2 file for my sound blaster audigy on Windows 2000. No dice. Vienna 2.3 recognizes that it is not a valid soundfont file and won't open it. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
