Mikro - A New Maschine from Native Instruments

UPDATE: Maschine Mikro is now available in stores worldwide

When it comes to selecting a hardware MIDI Controller setup, there are a confusingly large number of options - and Native Instruments have just announced a new hardware and software combo that looks like it could be a category killer at the more affordable end of the spectrum.

As you can see from the picture, the new Mikro still has the retained the main feature of an MPC style 4x4 matrix of velocity sensitive dynamically backlit drum pads.

Basically you get the same full-featured Maschine 1.7 software, combined with a cut down version of the controller hardware which is just two-thirds the size and weight of the original.

And as you would expect from NI, the Maschine software integrates completely with the effects and instruments in their Komplete 8 and Komplete 8 Ultimate bundles, providing advanced sound browsing and parameter mapping for all of instruments and effects they have.

However, if you want to stay at the budget end you don't have to buy NI instruments, because Maschine is also a full functioning VST & AU plugin host, allowing you to use the virtual instruments and effects you already have.

Maschine's rich feature list includes real-time audio recording, sample editing, multi-effects, and both pattern-based live and step sequencing.

Maschine Mikro is now in stores worldwide with an MSRP of $399 / 349 EUR.
