Re: Windows 98 or Millenium ?

Win 98 or Millenium... Hmmm... That's a good question. I'll have to think about that for a----------LINUX!!! It works (if you don't mind arm wrestling your computer to get things to work)! The install with most distributions is simple enough. You only restart once and that's to run the OS (!!!!!!!!!!).
Plus, it's free (just like Windows :) ).
Whichever Windows platform you go with, make sure that you wash your hands after handling the CD (mine always feel sooooooo dirty).

Something a really old guy once told me:
You can take a piece of $hit, and polish/paint it/dress it in a three piece suit, but it's still a piece of $hit.

Help! I need a virtual keyboard...

Can you please recommend a piece of software which:
allows me to use my PC keyboard as a 'piano' keyboard
drives wav files as 'sounds'
can be used to record into cubase/acid?
Your help would be greatly appreciated...
Cheers!

Cradle to Grave to CD

Using Cakewalk Homestudio on a Campaq Pent.3 - plenty of gig & ram, CDRW istalled, factory soundcard is Allegro. Midi via a cheezy Casio keyboard. Burnt the worst sounding CD in history. Is the real problem the midi to audio convert via the Allegro soundcard, i.e. my weakest link? Recommend a decent card at decent price.

Cassette to PC to CD

I am needing help with recording some old cassette tapes on to my pc so I can then burn them to a cd.
Trouble is I do not know if there is shareware out there for this or what kind of software to use. I currently have CD creator , the very basic version. I am told I could upgrade to the latest and be able to record with this software. Any suggestions would be grateful

Re: Cassette to PC to CD

: I use the NTrack studio - it allows you to record from cassette to the studio. Once there you can burn onto CD though you will need to convert from wave to MP3 I think - hope this helps

real trumpet sound?

In my experience, Today's keyboard technology has done marvels imitating almost all music instruments but the trumpet.

?If you have found a solution to this can you share it with me? I wish I could find the way to play first trumpet from my keyboard under live conditions.

Thanks you all !

Re: real trumpet sound?

Create, don't imitate!!
(aka: learn to play the trumpet!)
:-)
I am joking, naturally:
I have not idea of how to do it.

Re: real trumpet sound?

There is no solution other than practice and a lot of hard work actually playing an actual trumpet. No sample today can match the idiosyncrocies of a real lead trumpet player. S/he won't tongue every note, so short of taking a very long time to pre-program a part, including pitch variations and vibrato, it wil never sound as good as an excellent lead trumpet player. I've never heard of a synth/sample that sounds like a player, and in fact, you're probably better off spending a couple of hundred for the gig and hiring a real player if you want it to sound right.

line-in recording question--- cassete suggestions?

I have a bunch of old casettes of music I made years ago that I want to convert to CD... So I'm planning on transferring the tapes onto to computer hard drive using the line in... My question is this: Would it be better to do this by using a cable that connects the 1/4 inch headphone output on my stereo to the 1/8th inch input on my soundcard OR would it be better to use a cable that would connect the aux R and L outputs on back of my box to connect to the 1/4 inch soundcard? And does anyone have any software recommendations? (Incidentally, these are not high fidelity stereo recordings to begin with--I just want to end up with something that doesn't sound to muffled and distorted. Most of it is from live shows of my band that were taped on boomboxes.)

Thanks very much,
jelbogen2@yahoo.com

Re: line-in recording question--- cassete suggestions?

I am having a problem with my line-in recording. When I record a Lp,it only records 2 seconds of the song.It goes to the music library, I have MusicMatch 6.1When I double click the song to be played,It plays 2 seconds, and that's it(00:02)Also, after I record one song on the lp, I click the stop button, and the recorder screen stays on. Does it disappear eventually? How do I also record from my cassetes?I have a seperate amplifier, and I have the mini-plugs (1/8)Is that all that I need? Thanks Very Much. lmartin1966@yahoo.com

Why don't you go to www.musicmatch.com.Download and install "MusicMatch Basic".I have been using this program since it's conception and best of all it is FREE. I use a cassette player connected
to the "INLINE" connection of my PC and MusicMatch
converts my cassette to Mp3. The beauty of it is that I can play back as an Mp3, or, I can record to a CD in either Mp3 or .Wav format---your have a choice. Though all of my cassettes are in the stereo mode, I don't think it would make much difference if they weren't. LP's can also be done the same way with no difficulty. To keep noise
or distortion to a minimum, I suggest you close all windows programs, that may be operating, and
disconnect your microphone from the back of the PC. Blurps, beeps and "You Have Mail" can be a
sore spot when recording. Make sure the Rt. and Lft. outlet connections from the cassette player to the PC inlet are tight . A loose connection can really raise havoc with your recording.
Hope this helps solve your problem......

Does anyone know the best way (if any) to remove the loud static noises associated with ripping a song from a CD? They are extremely annoying on a compilation CD.

Roland PMA5

Does anyone have any opinions on the Roland PMA5?

Re: Roland PMA5

: Does anyone have any opinions on the Roland PMA5?
I think the concept is great, however, the manual is difficult to understand for a beginner, and, without proper instruction many of the features won't be used. I still haven't got the hang of it. There aren't any places that offer that kind of instruction. Unless you know alot about MIDI and the PMA5 you are lost. That's the only thing I have against it. Very complicated.

Re: Roland PMA5

I love the Roland PMA5! It's handy on jury duty, waiting for an oil change, traveling long distances, waiting in the doctor's office and anytime you want to give a new feel to a tired song. Everything I've learned has been from the instructional video. Since I purchased the PMA5 (used)in mint condition, unfortunately it did not come with the written manual. I would happily trade a copy of the VHS instuctions for a copy of the printed manual. I can't find the printed manual any place, and the video references the manual a couple of times. Could we make a trade?

Re: Roland PMA5

Did you ever find a copy of a manaual for your pma5?

We are having the same problem as our system was purchased at a yardsale and came with no (0) manuals.

How are your beats coming along. Have you cut a deal with Atlantaic Records yet? :)

Re: Roland PMA5

: Does anyone have any opinions on the Roland PMA5?
I've used one for 3 years now and wouldn't trade it for anything. Creating musical ideas are a snap and very easy. I've set mine up to play rhythm for an entire gig without downloading from computer. I hate Roland discontinued it.

CAKEWALK MIDI TO MP3 OR WAVE

I HAVE CREATED MANY NICE SONGS USING CAKEWALK SOFTWARE
NOW I NEED TO CONVERT THESE SONGS TO MP3 OR WAVE SO I CAN BURN A CD,, I FOUND SOFRWARE THAT = MP3 TO WAVE BUT NONE THAT WORK MIDI TO WAVE.. CAKEWALK MIDI

I am unable to find the MIDI port/device in my cakewalk score writer version 1.0.1. Have tried to re-installing the cakewalk several times but still no luck. Previously, it was fine but my laptop crashed 2 weeks ago and I have to re-set my notebook again and that is when the problem arises. Help.... my work is being held up as the MIDI device is gone!! Thank you.

Why don't you record your .WRK files to cassette?
I suggest "OPTIMUS, SCT 86, STEREO CASSETTE TAPE
DECK" from Radio Shack", in the event you don't have one. Cost $50.00 to $80.00, depending whether or not they are on sale. The song will now be in the .Wav format. From there on it is easy to make Mp3's and/or record to CD's in either Mp3 or .Wav format. To make it easier to
record to CD's, download "MusicMatch Basic" from
www.musicmatch.com. The program is FREE and will really serve the purpose. Just use a "Y" harness (can get from Radio Shack).Connect the tail of the "Y" to the RCA "INLET" jack of yourPC. The
other two (2) connections to the Rt. and Lft.
outlet jacks of your Cassette Tape Deck. Music
Match will automatically convert the song to Mp3
for playing from yourPC, or will also allow you to record to a CD in Mp3 or .Wav format. It is
suggested , before recording to MusicMatch, that all operating windows programs be closed and your microphone be disconnected from your PC MIC. jack. Don't want those burps, bleeps and Email
audio messages to play havoc while you are
recording... Hope this helps solve your problem...Incidently, how does "Cakewalk" work???? Email me at cdsuffer@cfl.rr.com...

MASS - Amazing Soft Synth

Check it out, a major new release of MASS the Modular Analogue Soft Synth for Win 95/98/2000. Hmmm, I know there's loads of these available already like, Buzz, Vaz, Reactor, SynC Modular etc. However the difference is that MASS is really REALLY quick and easy to use. No more mucking about with multipliers, adders, ramps etc. to even get a sound. No more holding loads of keys to just make a module connection. No more restrictions!

Check it!

Re: MASS - Amazing Soft Synth

Buzz is freeware. This is shareware. Registration Sucks.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm being blunt, but the only way I'll like a program is if I can download it for free :without: limitations of any sort. You almost had me conviced though.

MAXISTUDIO, RE-Format, Re-Install, Sys is now slow and crashes .

I have a Guillemot Maxistudio ISIS.

I have Win 98, 128meg, 4.2 HDisk (old Quantum Bigfoot), PII 350.

I have recently backed up my valued files, re-formatted the H-Disk and re-installed windows, hardware and software ....

I use AudioMulch, Soundforge and Re-birth ...

Norton Utilities 4, MS office 97.. (as I did before!!).

No new software has been added to my list of utilities since before the re-format etc ....

Up until I 'Cleaned' and re-set my system - everything was fine and I was starting to make some nice sounds ...

....now my PC is slower running, freezes at random and crashes outright when I try to change the parameters of the Sound-In on Audio-Mulch ...

Re-birth is fine

Sound-forge : when I sample from CD, the playback sample is not 100% steady (speeds up, slows down by a Gnats when I play back) (44.1 sample rate!) ... which it never did before ... I MEAN - WHAT'S THE USE OF ALL THAT LOVELY SOUND CARD IF THE SPEED ISN'T SOLID!!!!

Where did I go wrong ?

CAN ANYONE CLARIFY WHAT ARE GOOD AND BAD SETTINGS FOR THE B I O S OF MY P.C. (just in case!!) - in terms of music and processor stability / Drive buffers etc ...

Plus any other tips on keeping my system running well....(I expect the odd overload or crash .. but..)

PS : Anyone Remember 'SHEEP ON DRUGS' .. ?

test - ignore
