Re: IMPULSE TRACKER IS THE BEST TRACKER EVER!!!

Right on.

I cant fucking wait until Impulse Tracker 3..
I will pay practically anything for a copy of it..
I would sell my soul to Satan for IT3

IMPULSE TRACKER IS THE BEST TRACKER EVER!!!

anybody who doesn't use impulse tracker is missing out.
i used to use scream tracker but i found it too slow. i chenged to impulse tracker and i see a big difference. the only problem i ran across is that the coded were a little different. oh and by the way........FAST TRACKER SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

xm (or it) to wav w/ modplug...

Why does no one use ModPlug Tracker (they have a .com)... you can use S3M, XM, IT, or MOD and many sub-versions of all... uses all effects and some of it's own... spits out a beautiful WAV that's been normalized and everything... easy to convert to mp3 (which it'll do but the volumes are sometimes screwed) with anything...

it to mp3

where can i find software that encoder from it to mp3 ?

Re: it to mp3

: where can i find software that encoder from it to mp3 ?

I don´t think that there is a converter like that, but winamp can play it-files and you can use winamps plug-ins to convert it to wav and then to mp3.. simple as that.

Re: it to mp3

I've redone the MP3s via a technique which makes the MP3 files as true to the original IT songs as possible. I've used "VDMSOUND" (You can find it in the "Tools" folder), to allow me to actually run Impulse Tracker under Windows 2000 Pro. This is how I did it:

*What I used*:

-Pentium 3 750 / 256MB RAM / Plenty of drive space @ 7200RPM ATA1000
-Sound Blaster Live
-Headphones (for hearing anything that needed to be cleaned up) / Altec Lansing 4 speaker w/sub (for normalizing audio setup)
-AudioHQ software (Comes with SB Live),
-Cool Edit Pro
-Impulse Tracker
-XING MP3 Encoder

*How I did it*:
-Setup your sound preferences in AudioHQ. I used: Headphones/60% treble/80% bass/Carpeted Hallway effect
-Open Cool Edit Pro and start a new session (44100/stereo/16-bit)
-Start recording.
-Run VDMSound then Impulse Tracker (I setup a batch file to make it easier)
-Play your IT song.
-When the song is over ALT-TAB out to Cool Edit Pro, stop the recording.
-Cleanup dead space at start and end of recording, cleanup hiss/click/pop where needed, then amplify or fade as needed. (Note, for cleanest sound, you want the WAV to have the loudest amplification that doesn't cut off your peaks).
-Save this edited WAV file, and close out of Cool Edit Pro.
-Close you Impulse Tracker session.
-Open XING MP3 Encoder (Use the 128K Constant Bit Rate pofile), add your WAV and encode it.
-Close XING MP3 Encoder, and go into Audio HQ, and set your settings back to your Speaker setup with the settings you normally use for games and music.
-Open WinAmp and play your new MP3 song, and see if you like how it sounds. (You shouldn't have to adjust your Bass/Treble/Seperation).

*Closing*:

Play with your settings and recording/cleanup options until you get something that sounds good on both speakers and headphones, and sounds the best you can make it. Then, if you have alot of songs to change over to MP3, run them in a batch mode like: Make all your waves first. Then cleanup all your waves. Then encode all your waves. Note: **MAKE SURE TO CLOSE IMPULSE TRACKER WHEN ENCODING AND PLAYING WITH WINAMP. . .IT'S FINE TO LEAVE IT OPEN WITH COOL EDIT PRO, BUT THESE OTHER PROGS LOSE SOME CPU CYCLES WHEN IMPULSE TRACKER IS OPEN IN THE BACKGROUND, AND FUNKY STUFF HAPPENS**

Well...

: where can i find software that encoder from it to mp3 ?

Get winamp! When you get winamp, go to options and activate the disk writer output plugin (the one that comes with IT is mono, if you want stereo you have to pay $30, so use Winamp to wav-ize your *.IT files)

Now, once you do that, get an Mp3 encoder (i suggest BladeEnc, because you have to compile and build LAME yourself, so get bladeenc, it sounds good and it's fast) and convert your new wav to an mp3.

Hope i helped!

Can some help me plz?

Could some one tell or direct me to program(s) that can convert mp3 or wma to it with out screwing with alot of stuff? Thank God if you could help.

Re: it to mp3

First use the switch option IT.exe /s20. This will start it in diskwriter-mode. If you play your song, you won't hear sound, but the song is recorded into a .WAV -file.

Then, use an .MP3 encoder program to convert the created .WAV -file into an .MP3 file
(I suggest using "LAME", since this one is fast and produces a very good sound quality).

For .MP3 encoders/decoders, and many other useful programs, check out WWW.MAZ-SOUND.COM. There you can find any program you need, along with a small description. VERY good site.

Re: it to mp3

Does that mean you have to get diskwriter?

Re: it to mp3

: Does that mean you have to get diskwriter?

Diskwriter type programs generally come with music programs such as IT and Winamp. So no.

XM quality is better than IT???

i dunno. is that true?

Re: XM quality is better than IT???

No Turrie, that's not true.
Fasttracker XM's mostly contain more clicks, due to the less good volume-ramping engine, and the overall sound is usually more "chirpy" than IT.
The only advantage might be that the sample starts are sharper, so for instance a hard kickdrum sounds more "direct" with Fasttracker.
It's usually a good idea to make the drums in Fasttracker, and the melodic sounds in IT.
so... : ) now you know..

IT - special effects

Has anyone out there an idea how to make cool audio effects with IT ? Or some tutorials ? I hate it to make each effect (like reverb) with an audio editor like cool edit.

And has anyone an idea, where i can get Impulse Tracker 3 ???

Greetz,

Re: IT - special effects

Get ModPlugTracker! You'll still be tracking .ITs but you'll also get support for channel/instrument specific VST effects. You can assign an effect for a channel or just for a specific instrument. (up to 8 effects per file)
The program runs in Windows so it's a bit heavier on the system than Impulse. But that is probably the only downside.

Re: IT - special effects

You can achieve a lot with the volume-, pitch-, and panning envelopes of the instruments (press F4).

There are also a few ways to create reverb-patterns. I suggest you read "the trackers handbook", which is to be found at WWW.MAZ-SOUND.COM, at the bottom of the "TRACKERS" page.
In this file there are a few old but useful hints to create such effects.
But I must say; a CoolEdit reverb will always sound the smoothest. : )

Final option is to buy a (second-hand) soundblaster AWE32, since that card can produce reverb in IT, but onlo for the whole sound, and not for individual sounds or tracks.

Impuls songs

Can someone please send me some kicking songs of impuls tracker?

Thank you all very much dudes!

Greetz fly out to all trackers outthere!

erm...

Ok, why should I use IT when there is
ModPlug Tracker? That prog is also a
freeware and,IMO, is a way better
than IT in any sense.

Re: erm...

Hey Al,

The above follow-up from Danny van der Hofstad may sound a little bitchin', but he's GOT a point.
The advantage of DOS trackers is that you can jam on those keys, and make beats in a very fast and clear way.

No RSI from hours of mouse-fiddling, no
crappy windows errormessages, etc. Next thing is;
The timing accuracy and latency are usually less good under Windows. (yes, also by MPT, i've tried it) I think this is caused by all those gizmo's running "on the background" of Windows, and I HATE it.

Sure, it's everyone's own choice, but for Win, i'd rather use midi-sequencers and non-realtime soft-synths as VAZ MODULAR, than trackers.
I can use IT so damn fast, that it's possible for me to do a live song build. I start out with a few samples, and while people are listening, yet another groovy tune comes to life.. : )It's a fun way of working, not too comlicated, but still really everything is possible.

So i'd say, from MY opinion only...
...Tracking is a DOS thing.
(but let us never forget the holy Amiga :) )

Modplug tracker is the stupidest program I've ever seen, it isn't 100% accurate, the controls are irritating, and most of all : it's windows based. And we all know that Windows-trackers suck. Trust me, I've been in the scene for over 3 years now, it's either Impulse Tracker or Fast Tracker ][

I have tracked a lot in IT, for about 5 years now and I had no chance of getting the itwav.drv from Jeffrey and I have been kind of constrained to use ModPlug Player to put music on CD in audio format. The program did it very well, I was satisfied.

How bout that?

ehm... syncronizin'

Hi there... Perhaps someone could help me with the following...
------------------------------------------------------
I have 2 computers, and installed IT on both comps, to use this setup for quick livejams with 2 people. However, syncronizing the 2 comps seem to be impossible due to a speed difference between the machines.. The beats start in sync (skilled F6-pressing ;) ), but they begin to "stutter" after a short while. Is there a way (by MIDI for example) to sync both machines using IT? The networked IT doesn't seem to be a solution, 'cause independent starting and stopping of patterns seems impossible...
We especially want to use IT because it's very good for live altering of variables and jamming. We 've done this before on two exact same machines, and it worked amazingly good!
------------------------------------------------------
So... any suggestions??
Thanks,

Re: Convert it files to audio CD.

You must register Impulse Tracker to the author, the best guy around : Jeffrey Lim!!! then you get a stereo wavewriter!!!

I've seen this wavwriter, and to be honest, it wasn't all I expected, it's too slow. Most of the times I use the save WAV function of Modplug Player. However, the Wavwriter is _very_ accurate.
(But it's not cool when you want your wav written in 10 seconds)

how do you use impuls tracker????????

Me i think its the hardest thing in the world if some one would explane it to me witch no one can probly do ill be soo happy my e mail is mastersteve@accesswave.ca
and how in the hell did you guys and girls learn didn't it take you like 3 years!!

Re: how do you use impuls tracker????????

watch for the sound section on my homepage. There you'll find the tracker's handbook !
Alternate try the F1 key in the different Impulse Tracker menus.

so far for now

Re: how do you use impuls tracker????????

Hey Steve,

If you look at ImpulseTracker for the first time, you might get a little confused, but really, NO OTHER program in the world (trust me i've tried almost all of them) is easier to learn than IT. You're right; to get full benefit of ALL the functions of this jewel, took me for about 3 years. And I really ain't that clever though. : )
...I use ImpulseTracker for 7 years now...

Just read the <F1> help screen, and print it out.
Read it on the toilet, in the shower (wait! put it in plastic first!, and in bed, and while you're trackin too).
Most important, be patient and TRY. If you cannot bring up the interest / patience and time, you might as well stop right now. The outcome is *really* worth it!

Just an example: I can use IT so fast, that I can make a song from the beginning, live. It's really fun. (IF you enjoy sample-based music ofcourse)

Grz,

Knoppster (Knoppster@hotmail.com)

Eh?

IMPULSE TRACKER: MIDI Clock out signal???

Is there a way to send a MIDI clock signal to my instruments using this thing???

Re: IMPULSE TRACKER: MIDI Clock out signal???

Yes.
Shift-F1 brings up the MIDI menu.

I haven't fooled with IT and MIDI in over two years, but if memory serves correctly, I could only get it to serve as a MIDI master, and not it react to another MIDI clock.

You can save the samples with Alt-W to a Intel-Byte-Order-Raw-Wave and convert them to a Wave with many wave editor programs available. Ie. CoolEdit or even with the editor supplied with SB-cards.
To convert a complete song simply use Winamp and the Waveout.

Memory

I only have 510 kb in my conventionnal memory and it's enough to run the program but not to listen and to create music... I already put some devices in my CONFIG.SYS like "device=himem.sys" but it doesn't work. I know there's a way to expand my DOS memory and would really like to know to finally create my dawned music... So if someone knows how to fix my problem, please reply to me!!!!! I think you ought to find a EMM386.exe emulator for WinME. I doubt whether ME still support EMM but anyhow you surely do need it. Without EMM IT won't have enough free memory. Try adding the following line after uploading Himem

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE RAM

But if ME doesn't support EMM you'll have to find an emulation
