notation software

[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]

Is there a notation software program that:
1. Spells chords and places symbols on staff
in real time?
2. Has ability to insert double-bar lines, repeats in staff view.
3. Ability to save staff view and send sheet music on
on internet?
Am using Cakewalk Pro Audio 8. You would think that for
the cost, this program would do these options. If so,
I haven't been able to find help on it.

Coda's Finale does a very good job of this, though I'm not sure what you mean by real time.

: 2. Has ability to insert double-bar lines, repeats in staff view.

Coda's Finale does this too. It is a more expensive program, but I love it.

: 3. Ability to save staff view and send sheet music on

Yes, Finale can save images as a TIF, then I use a graphic editor to convert it to a GIF to transport it.

Ya, I don't think Cakewalk does this.

Good luck!

1) Get a free copy of MusicMatch Jukebox at www.musicmatch.com which will take MP3 or wave files, organize the in a playlist then burn a regular audio CD from those files.

2) Consider getting a Raite AVPhile 715 player for your home Audio/Video system. This unit plays DVDs, VideoCDs, audioCDs and CDs with MP3 files. I get 150+ songs on a single CD.

3)Consider getting the portable MP3 discman from www.easybuy2000.com which plays MP3 files the same as the Raite and plays regular audio CDs.

As far as I know, ALL CDR software alows you to brun from wav to cdda. Considering that there is not a program that allows you to convert a wav file to a cdda, it would have to.

Re: wav to cd audio

what you could do is just convert a mp3 to a wav file then just burn it directly
it still works
providing that you burner program can covert it to a cda file
i recomend easy cd creator deluxe v.4

Have you heard of a creative mixer???

[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]

I use a program on a computer before which I made techno songs. I don't remeber if it was a creative mixer or not. It was off the internet and I can't seem to download it. Come on boys I am one of the very few girls that likes this kind of stuff. If you can help or know of something better, its DigsyUNO@aol.com.

Re: Have you heard of a creative mixer???

i don't know if this advice is any use but here goes, a company called creative that make the soundblaster and awe cards have a program called creative mixer that you get with their soundcards. this program letrs you set the levels for the various devices going in and out of the soundcard. if u just want a sequencer and wav editor check out the freeware/shareware forum.
hope this helps

How Do You Protect Your Music?

[The body of this post has been lost]

Re: How Do You Protect Your Music?

I don't think it would be very possible, because, as was mentioned, the difference between audio formats' header information, etc. It can't be hidden in the audio because if the sound is reformmatted/recompressed, some low-loss compression algorithms could easily corrupt the watermark. I hate to make the world of music sound so depressing, but even if there were a freeware program that could add watermarks, there would most probably be a freeware program that could REMOVE them too.

However, your work is protected by copyright law THE SECOND THAT IT IS AFFIXED TO TANGIBLE MEDIUM. It's not invincible, but it's under law. The actual separated audio tracks used to make that recording could be adequate proof of you being the creator since most recordings (there are rare exceptions) cannot be easily broken down back into their seperate tracks again. If you're going to be selling a CD, I strongly recommend that you get it registered at with the U.S. Library of congress. (www.copyright.gov) for 30 bucks. It sounds like a lot for just getting it registered, but if you sell 5 CDs at 7 bucks apiece you're already in the green.

As for keeping individual people from pirating your music, there is no easy answer at the moment of writing this since music formats that have copyright protection have been heavily stomped in the resentment of the listeners themselves. (after all, who wouldn't want free music?)

don't show it to anyone except yourself...

With a question like that, you are in the wrong message board...

Re: don't show it to anyone except yourself...

: With a question like that, you are in the wrong message board...

It's a legitimate question - even if there is ultimately no way to stop someone copying your music, some people such as small labels, might want to be able to prove that someone is distributing illegal copies of their music and a watermark might help them prove their case albeit after the fact.

Well if someone is actually copying your music, i think there would be sufficient evidence in the music itself. An MP3 copy of a song is going to sound very similar to the CD Audio Original;)

As Far as a Digital Watermark, it is VERY Possible, however due to the fact that there are so many different Audio File Formats, having a standardized digital watermark is pretty much out of the question--For now. This may actually become a reality in the future.

But if you intend to watermark samples or loops which you have created, There are no laws to even protect such files like generic sample loops.

Furthermore, to prosecute someone who actually uses your samples would probably be futile, since most major artists will not use "questionable" samples. And anyone who does rip off Your samples, probably doesn't have any money to begin with, so filing a copyright infringement suit would probably be pretty useless and only your lawyer will benefit.

Personally, I would take it as a compliment if someone uses some of my tracks or samples...That just means that it's good! IMHO It's better to have your tracks heard and enjoyed (and possibly stolen) rather than to collect dust on the shelves of obscurity.

oh well, just my 2¢

Real Audio files to Wav files on Mac

[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]

Does anyone know how to convert Real Audio files to either Wav or AIFF files on a Macintosh?

Re: Real Audio files to Wav files on Mac

: Does anyone know how to convert Real Audio files to either Wav or AIFF files on a Macintosh?

Yuk yuk yuk, now I know why smarty got his name. Sort of like calling the tallest guy in the room shorty.

To answer your question, there is no good way to convert .ra to .wav or .aiff.

Re: Real Audio files to Wav files on Mac

: Does anyone know how to convert Real Audio files to either Wav or AIFF files on a Macintosh?

Re: Real Audio files to Wav files on Mac

I have a quick solution to convert them.
Just follow the instructions below:

1. Turn OFF your mac.
2. Get 3 gallons of gasoline and pour evenly over you mac.
3. Stand at least 10 feet from your mac.
4. Remove book of matches from pocket.
5. Read instructions on matches to learn how to ignite flame. (Just want to make sure you know since you do HAVE A MAC)
6. Flick match at screen and run like hell to your local computer store and get a pc. Ya know, the kind that you can open it yourself and make upgrades without hauling it down to an authorized MAC dealer and pay bucks to everythime you want to do anything!

Gee, that's kind of funny. I recently installed one RAM upgrade and two modems into Power Mac G3's at the office, and I was thinking how nice it would be if the computer tower on my PC at home was hinged like that. Then I wouldn't swear so much while trying to wedge my fingers in between all the parts.

You seem to be confusing "Mac" with "iMac." I'd never own an iMac because I'd never have the patience to essentially take the damn thing apart to get at the insides.

Mac-bashing and PC-bashing make me roll my eyes; why does anyone else care which kind of computer other people use? I just tell people I love and hate both my Mac and my PC, depending on what they're doing.

My only real gripe with Apple is that they decided people no longer needed floppy drives. Big duh.
