Re: How to eliminate...(clarification 2)

(more info) O.k., once the VCR audio out is
connected to the sound card no humming occurs
until the PC is connected to a power source.
The PC and VCR are still powered off, just the
PC's speakers are on.

I'm not an expert but this very similar to a problem I had in a small TV studio I set up a few years ago - the problem was fixed by isolating all audio equipment onto it's own electrical circuit so there could be no earth noise (the hum) from any other equipment.

We had 3 phase power so this wasn't too hard to do - at home you don't have this advantage but I would try looking at your house's fusebox to see where the different circuits in the house are and try and put the VCR and Computer on different circuits - if you can it might also help to put your computer monitor on a separate circuit to the computer and the VCR if possible.

Re: How to eliminate... (clarification)

...actually, I am using shielded cable, but it's
your basic plain-Jane Radio Shack stuff.
Also, I tried hooking up headphones in place of
the speakers (wondered if the hum was coming from
there) and could still hear it as soon as I
hooked up the VCR audio.

SEQ 303 to wav ?

Hi there !

Does anyone know how to turn SEQ 303 files
into wave, is this possible ?

Advice appreciated.

Re: SEQ 303 to wav ?

Whenever i need a 303 file turned into a wav i use cool edit to record it. you have to edit the waveform after that, but its better than nothing. There isn't a easy work around other than that.

Where can I get a good wav editor?

I need to find a good sound editor thats got lots of features, but easy to use, esp for song-length wav files.
Whats the best one?

Thanks!!

Also please see my message concerning Adaptec CD Spin DR.

!!!HELP!!! - Having trouble burning with Adaptec CD Spin DR

I have tried to record wav files onto cdr using Adaptec CD Spin DR. It seems to burn all the songs, but it won't let me close the CD.It gives me a "failed to close CD" error message. Then the CD cannot be read by PC or CD player.
Questions:
What's the problem? Can I ever close these CD's?
Is there an easier way to do this?
Is there better software for this, and where to get it?

Re: !!!HELP!!! - Having trouble burning with Adaptec CD burner

My CD burner does not see the blank disk.

Re: !!!HELP!!! - Having trouble burning with Adaptec CD burner

: My CD burner does not see the blank disk.

when i put a blank cd in the burner it spits it
back out saying that I need to put a cd in with
more disc space. the cd will be new.

: I CANNOT MANAGE TO RUN SPIN DOCTOR AT ALL. IF I RECORDING A LIST OF SONGS FROM AN LP, AND APPLYING THE CLEAN UP TRACKS OPTION, IT RECORDS THE FIRST SONG ALRIGHT, BUT THEN ON THE SECOND SONG, IT STICKS ON SAY 16% COMPLETE, AND EVEN AFTER ONE HOUR, IT IS STILL IN THIS POSITION.I HAVE TRIED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS TO GET SPIN DOCTOR TO WORK, BUT HAVE FAILED EACH TIME. I CA TRANSFER SONGS FROM AN LP TO MY HARD DRIVE, USING SOUND EDITOR, WITH NO PROBLEMS, CAN YOU HELP ME.

****** I have run into this problem a couple of times. My best solution has been to try to add another track and close the CD again. The best way to do this without adding unwanted songs is to create an small .wav file of just silence (ie. with Windows Sound Recorder)
1) Record a file of about 10 seconds long or so.
2) Then set Spin Doctor to add this track and "close" after recording.
This usually works for me. And if it doesn't work the first time, try it again. The worst thing that will happen is that you'll have a couple of extra seconds of silence at the end of the disk. HINT: I've also found that the software is less problematic when you do a complete burn from start to finish rather than adding a few songs at a time. Hope this helps.

Re: !!!HELP!!! - Spin Doctor problems

1st problem: when i use the cleaning or morphing utilities and then hit Preview, the program suddenly "dissapears" and send me to the desktop.

2nd Problem: Whenever I try to record from several LP tracks and I use the stop button to jump to another track, the final recording shows a "chirp" after the song ends (actually between the two songs. Pls reply to the e-mail and thanks

i would really like to know if there is any way to use the track seperation feature on spin doctor, to seperate a long dj set into tracks....but also be able to burn the cd using disc at once so the cd will play through smoothly if i let it play.

TB Montego MIDI Problems

Anyone else had problems with playing the internal GM sounds on a TB Montego A3D 64 PCI card.

It sounds as if something like Portamento is on lots of the sounds (Piano, Guitar etc etc)...i.e. there is a noticeable pitch "wobble" on them, and it's not my mod wheel!

If a use TB Montego MIDI i/f to play my external sound module there is no problem, so I don't think it's the MIDI interface or keyboard settings.

Any help?

What happened to Passport Designs? An ANSWER.

First off, let me note that I work for the company that now owns Passport Designs.

I noted that there are a few notes on this board looking for where Passport went, so I figured I would clear it up. As you likely know, they went bankrupt roughly a year ago. Coda, makers of Finale, was going to acquire them, and G-VOX came in and made a successful counter-offer at the 11th hour. The intent was to keep the programs alive while strengthening G-VOX's position as an interactive music software leader.

Yada, Yada, Yada...

To make a long story short, G-VOX is now aggressively committed to development and support of most of the Passport products, including (but not limited to) Encore, MusicTime/MT Deluxe, and Master Tracks. G-VOX is also offering extremely competitive pricing on upgrades for and to Encore (see the site for pricing; I don't want to make this TOO much of an ad - though if you own Rhapsody, which has been discontinued, be sure to ask for the unadvertised special Encore pricing.)

In any case, we want our customers to be pleasantly surprised by the quality of service that we are striving for. We have tech support in place. We have developers working on Encore's code. We are committed to bringing Passport's quality products back into the limelight as some of the best music software available.

Hope this clears it up. Feel free to contact me for further clarification or other questions.

Soundblaster Live MIDI timing problems.

Can anyone out there help with the following problem:

When recording audio into SBLive digital in, the audio records OK.
However, when I play this back it gradually drifts out of time with the MIDI playback, becoming obvious after a couple of minutes.
I've tried the latest SB drivers, and also used various software (Cubasis, Cakewalk 7) but the problem persists.
My system is a P2-400 with 64mb RAM so system speed should not be an issue.

The problem obviously isn't SPDIF related as the the timing drifts even when superimposing a recorded click from the on-board synth with a midi one.

I've received very little help from Creative Labs (who Steinberg referred me to) and would welcome any suggestions.

Even if you can't help, I'd like to know if this is common fault with the SBLive or is it just happening on my system.

Cheers.

Re: Soundblaster Live MIDI timing problems.

If your using windows200 it uses a roland sound canvas not the creative sw synth that is what is causing your problem.
I contacted creative as to where the creative sw synth was and have not yet heard anything from them.
They don't respond to e-mail very well.

You can go to material set up(in CUBASIS AV), and select "more choice", verify that it selected "sample position" and not "bloc DMA". I thinnk it will be right.

Re: Soundblaster Live MIDI timing problems.

1) your problem is not caused by SB card
2) it is caused by Cubasis software
3) if you do a search on 'Cubasis timing problems' on www.google.com you will find thousands upon thousands of web pages of information about this problem, it is present on most sound cards and the advice for solving it never works - it is in my opinion people guessing answers
4) I have struggled for over 5 years with Cubasis (all versions) and different sound cards - the midi always drifts out of time with the audio
5) I solved my sync problems by buying Magix midi studio (about 1/10th the price of the Cubasis software)

When it comes to hardware get the best you can afford. As for software the best program to start with would have to be n-Track Studio - it's a great little multitrack recording program that you can use for free for a month and if you want to keep it it's only $30.

Vocoders; Need Help, Folks

Hi folks,
I´ve tried Opcodes Software Vocoder, but for me it produce just a bunch of distorted shit with my 350 MHz SCSI machine. So I´m looking for really WORKING software which could be share-/freeware too to make cool vocoder tracks.
Any help is apreciated

help

Hi
I'm looking for a free download of the MP3 software any ideas please mail me

Re: Vocoders; Need Help, Folks

alright, i use a cyclonix vocoder. As far as I can work out you play a sound in and it comes out like a robot in realtime with various variables (quite a few in fact). If you search for cyclonix vocoder you'll probably find it or if not I think it's free/shareware. hope this helps.
