VOCAL EXTRACTION

Does anyone know of any software which extracts vocals from Songs. I am into remixing and am after some software to grab just the vocals so that I can mix them with other beats.

Cheers

Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION

Apparently there are programs "out there" and rumor has it that Steinberg is coming out with a new product designed to do just that. However no specifics as of yet. The only other thing I have run across is a system with a "Karioke" button that when activated removes the vocals to allow your own voice to dominate. This mythical "Karioke Button" has since remained as elusive as Elvis.

The best way I find to cut out the vocals is with a mixing desk and a graphic equaliser.
This either means plugging into your home stereo or buying some propper kit.
Turn off the bass and most of the treble then experiment with the mid range frequencies.

Let me know if you find a program that does this, Cool Edit 96 has a little mixer in it but it is
quite crappy compaired to the real thing.

I'd recommend Impulse Tracker, available at www.noisemusic.org/it. It's somewhat difficult to learn, but there are many tutorials available. It's also (in my opinion) one of the most powerful, with tons of FX. Fast tracker (not sure of the site) is another available, though it's something I've never taken the time to learn.

i am currently using a rap 10 card with a p2 running Windows '98. Roland has not provided any update drivers since Win '95. therefore i have been using the MPU401 driver which came with windows 98. i am uncertain whether or not this driver is available with win NT, but give it a shot.

Re: mp3 on iMac??

Use for example MacAmp or QuickTime 4 to play it.
QuickTime 4 is the best tool ever, on mac or pc, for playing movies, music and more. But wait until the official version is released.
Don't use any Microsoft shit.

Recording a Wav

Hi
I was wondering what is the best way to record my own guitar onto a wav. file. So far I have been using the mic installed on my computer but, I think an external mic would be better. Also I get static sounds in my recordings because the lower chords go above the frequency buffer, I think. Any help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks

cd ripper wanted

I need a program to digitally extract segments of audio cd's as .wav files... not whole songs at a time, just the selected samples. Can anybody help?

Suggestions invited for sample CD

Hi
I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend a cool sample cd for drum loops and individual hits. The sounds that i am really into is the likes of Propellerheads, chem brothers or fat boy slim. I like this 'big beat' kindof sound but I'M LACKING THE SOUNDS!! So any suggestions or experiences are welcome. Or any sample cd that has got a good bunch of drum kits, real or electro (other than just TR808/909) would be of interest to me. Akai or wav is ok.
Thanks
Felix

Sibelius minimizing

I use Sibelius for music notation in conjunction with Word. When I go to minimize the program in the usual way i.e. hit the - key at the very top of the program, the only thing that closes is the file that I have just worked on. I want to be able to keep Sibelius and Word open at the same time as I go from one to the other but I just can't minimize Sibelius. I have to exit the program each time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm not familiar with Sibelius but this comment goes
generally for all programs. Leave both programs
maximised and just click on the entry for the
program you want to use on the taskbar (next to
the Start button. This should swap between the full
screens of the two programs. How quickly this happens
will depend on how much memory you have and the size
of the files in each program.

Hope this helps.

is it possible to uncompess mp3

Is there anyway to uncompress cd to put it back on to a cd to play on a CD player

Re: is it possible to uncompess mp3

: Is there anyway to uncompress cd to put it back on to a cd to play on a CD player

yes, some mp3 software can do this. It will convert .mp3 back to .wav and from .wav you can easily burn it as cd audio. But i still find that once a file is mp3 the data loss cannot be made up for; so even when it is converted back to wav the quality is certainly not hi fidelity.

Why only "CD Quality"?

I record some files at 8khz 16 bit, but when I try to
put them on CD with Easy CD or any other program, they haev to convert it to 44khz. This takse up a lot of space and I end up with only about 90 minutes of audio....not 720 minutes like the CD says! I was to convert my 8khz wav files into CDA files and then put them on CD's. Is it possible?!

Let me put this to you straight in a more easy to understand manner.
Firstly, the CD does NOT say that you can put 750 minutes of stuff on there! It says you can put 750 MEGABYTES of stuff on there. MEGABYTES is what you measure data files in (you know, word documents and mp3's and stuff). It also says you can put 74 or 80 MINUTES of music onto it.
Now, while you can do a bit of both, for the inexperienced, the situation is this:
You can have 750 MEGABYTES of FILES on there, or you can have 74, or 80 MINUTES of CD AUDIO on there. Your computer is what can read the FILES, but your CD PLAYER can only read the CD AUDIO. CD AUDIO is only in one format, and that is 44khz 16bit. Whether you are coming from 8bit or 32bit beforehand, bad luck - cds only do 16 bit so I'm afraid it doesn't matter, you have to use it.

Hi!
there's limit that the CD store your song. Actually, the size of .cdr is very close to .wav. For example,
5 min wav file takes about 40M - 50M storage for 16 bit 44100Hz wav file. Thus for a CD, just 650M, u know how many sound u can put in the CD.

It's not possible for u to make a 8-bit CDR. It is because most of the cd player has only 16-bit DAC.
DAC is a chip that turn your digital data in your CD into analog signal. So, you should make a CD with 16 bit.
Furthermore, the more the bit is, the less noise in it, so ,why don't u use 16 bit audio?

Regards

Sorry. something has misunderstood.
Actually u can record 8khz audio instead of 44.1khz. The audio will have more noise, though the size
of your sound file will be smaller.

Regards.

Re: Why only "CD Quality"?

Probably the 720 minutes where meant as a WAV file 720 minutes long. At 8KHz, this
might be realistic. Beside that: AFAIK, no conventional audio CD player can read more than
70 minutes of music. And what I know for shure: every audio CD player expects the data
at 16 bit, 44100 Hz. This means: to make CD-player-compatible CD, you MUST convert your
WAV files to this rate. If you only want to play it on your computer, leave it a WAV file.

Greetings,
Harald
