steinberg pro24 .sng files to .mid conversion

I once had an Atari and produced quite a few .sng files
on the steinberg pro24 sequencer ( which I think became
Cubase ). My Atari is long gone but I recently found my
.sng files which I now would like to listen to. Does any-
one know of a player for windows or a conversion
program to convert the files to .mid format?

If so, kindly inform me...

Hi,
Anyone knowof a shareware program to convert WAV files to MIDI files?

Thanks

PJ

Re: convert .wav files to MIDI

I can't believe people are still trying to do this....Say it with me now.....

IT'S NOT POSSIBLE!!!! MIDI IS NOT SOUND> IT IS REMOTE CONTROL OF A SOUND SOURCE. IT IS HEXADECIMAL CODE...NOT SOUND!!! YOU ARE CONFUSED BECAUSE YOU HEAR A MIDI FILE COMING OUT THE SAME OUTPUTS AS YOUR WAV FILES ON YOUR SOUND CARD> DO SOME RESEARCH> IT CAN"T BE DONE> PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HELP!

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could spare me a moment to
pass on a few details about generating drum beats on
my PC. I have downloaded a few demo's without getting
too far with them because I am a complete novice. I am
looking to purchase a reliable piece of software that
will enable me to design drum beats, change pitch and
duration etc. then join beats together to make rhythm's.
Is there any software out there that can emulate the
Yamaha drum machines? Or will I have to connect a drum
machine to my PC, purchase software, and sample the
input from the drum box?

Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated.

Best regards,
Neil Lewis

Neil; don't get a drum machine, they are almost entirely redundant if you have a pc with soundcard. If you only want to do drums, a virtual sampler on your soundcard can hold all the noises of whatever drum machine you prefer (NB you get get a virtual sampler free with AWE soundblaster soundcards), and can be played via MIDI from any non-audio sequencer such as cubase, logic, cakewalk. (Don't try to use the audio versions, as the virtual sampler and the sequencer will both want to use the soundcard, which will cause problems).
As to changing pitch, timestretching, adding effects etc I use Wavelab and Soundforge, both of which are excellent audio editors.

Alternatively, use cubase/cakewalk/logic audio versions in alliance with recycle to create new new drum loops from sampled loops; this way you will also have access to all the other audio functions of these powerful programs.

If you get a hardware sampler, and use an audio program, all these options will available simultaneously.

Good luck,
Craig

HELP: Getting Home Studio Started

I am a drummer at heart but I'm interrested in creating my own music through my PC. The only other tool I have to get this project started is an Alesis QS6. There is so much software out there for recording and mixing that I don't know which one to choose. I have been thinking about Cakewalk or Emagic Logic Audio. Any input on software would be a big help as well as any other equipement I might need.

Re: HELP: Getting Home Studio Started

Anthony,
I too am a drummer and was in your shoes not too long ago (maybe I still am!).
I use and recommend Cakewalk products. They're relatively easy to use and powerful, you won't outgrow them any time soon. Do you have a midi interface? How about your computer? Do you want to record audio on your pc? This will help determine how beefy your pc should be.

One other piece of advice I would give you is to start with one or two programs and/or equipment and use them exclusively for a while. The trap that I fell into was the "gee whiz" phase of all of this technology and I ended up spending all of my time on the programs and the hardware INSTEAD of making music. Just a thought.

Good luck and I'll look for more of your posts.

Doug

Velocity-sensitive keyboard

Hello, can someone tell me what is a good velocity-sensitive keyboard with full-size keys and authentic sound for a 11-year-old who can't afford an acoustic piano?

Re: Velocity-sensitive keyboard

Vogue,

try the Yamaha PSRs. I am very happy with my PSR 730, but 200-630 are good as well.

Harald

Need a music software program to provide me with accompaniment w

I want the music software to provide me with a rhythm section (piano, bass and drums) accompaniment. I'll enter the chords through the user interface. I have a PC and a sound card. Don't know much about MIDI. Do I need any additional hardware.

Re: Need a music software program to provide me with accompanime

Kaquino,

look for "Band in a Box" (short BIAB) which does exactly
what you describe. As far as I know, you don't need a MIDI
keyboard to enter the changes, apart from that, it comes with
quite a lot of pieces and styles to play with.

Greetings,
Harald

Roger,
I bought MusicTime Deluxe thru GVOX.com last year. I don't read music but I have the ear...have composed 20+ songs to date. Very easy, no keyboard necessary...point and click the notes if you'd like. Write if you want more details. Chech out my site for some of my tunes. Dan

Hello,

Just wanted you to know that I have Music@passport software. I don't think the website has been operational for some time. If you have a specific question regarding the application, send it directly to me at FilmMusic1@aol.com. I'll reply as quickly as I can. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Re: Music@passport

Sorry, my first attempt was a failure. I have had Music@Passport for a number of years and have much music in the .m@p format. I have also converted many of the songs to .mid format within the software. The problem is no other music software recognizes the Music@Passport format, no matter how you save them. Does anyone know of a package I can use to convert these files to .mid or some other readable format.
Thanks,
Bob
