Home Music Studio

There's a lot of music/audio software that seems to only last a short time on the net.
I want to record music (analog and digital) and modify music on the PC to hopefully create demos. I don't mind spending money if it's a good product and will be around and ends up saving me time by not experimenting with 40 programs to find four or five that do parts of what I want.

Any recommendations (freeware/shareware/commercial) to jump start this? thanks.

what do i need to create a music studio

what do i need to create a music studio and create beats ?

Re: Home Music Studio

I wanted to build a home studio- small though, I was just curious if there was anywhere on the web where I can find info on inexpensive ways for sound proofing and just setting up someting like this...

Re: Home Music Studio

you should be a bit more specific for what uses
you need software.
anyway, a good setup could be:

cubase audio xt (midi-/audio-sequencer)
soundforge or wavelab (sample-editor)
lots of plug-ins (for effects and mastering)

some more questions?

greets,
sniffa

Re: Home Music Studio

Most of what I'll record will be analog. Any other products? Are all thes commercial and are we talking serveral hundredd dollars?
thaks, I just don't know <sigh>

If you want a decent set up, it's going to cost a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, depending on what your needs are and the level of quality you're after.

how to begin recording

Hey everybody,

I'm brand new at all of this but here is what I want to do. My goal is to record original music, place it on a web site in a form that people can download. How do I do this? Where do I start? What do I need beside my 366MHz Pc and windows 95? I appreciate ANYTHING anybody can tell me.

Thanks,

James

Re: how to begin recording

how do you want to make music? just with your
computer or with additional hardware synthies?

in case you just want to use your pc:
- get a software-synth (there are plenty)
- if you like analog synths get rebirth
- get cubase and rewire
- soundforge to edit samples

but I think I could help you more if you'd tell
me the way how you want to make music.

extracting guitar parts from mp3s or wavs

is there any way for me to take vocals and/or guitar out of a mp3 or wav file while leaving the bass, drums and keyboard?

NoiseReduction plug-in for Soundforge

maybe this can help you.

Re: extracting guitar parts from mp3s or wavs

AnalogX has a vocal remover. The DX version is very effective, the DSP(for WA) is a little less so, but it's easy to use and can isolate Drums and Bass (to an extent)

You can dl the DSP version at my site

Just starting Cubase studio-need advice

I need to speak with someone who can advise me without the usual "music store" speak re-setting up from scratch a studio at home using Cubase. I have a PC that can handle all the specs required and I now need to talk to someone "real" with relation to what I need to do to make it happen for me - Can some one help?

Serelle

What would you suggest?

I am on the verge of buying a new PC are there any specific requirements needed in order to run cubase successfully?

I would be very grateful for a reply

Re: Just starting Cubase studio-need advice

if you have some questions email me.

U220/SQ2 volume problem

I use an SQ2 as the contoller for the U220, but I'm having a problem getting volume changes to transmit/receive from one to the
other. I use the sq2's sequencer for presets instead of actual sequences. When I set the volume for a given track that controls a
timbre on the U220, the volume changes on the U220 accordingly, but if I don't write the change to the U220 it reverts to
whatever the volume was initially. I know it is doing what it's supposed to do, but why (if I change the volume setting in the
preset) isn't it responding to the changes I've made in the presets? It receives patch and program changes OK, and the "receive
volume changes" is set to on. I ask because I frequently have to change the mix of the tracks and it's easier to do from the
SQ2. Any help appreciated.

pops on recording - n-track

I'm recording guitar with N-track on a 200mmx 32Mb ram. Not sure what soundcard.
The setup is :guitar--> multieffects-->soundcards line in.

I get these bright short pops during playback. It seems to me that the pops come at different points in the song if I play the track twice. What I mean is when I have recorded a track, the first time I play it (with N-tracks) there might be a pop at say time 2:10, while the next time I play it there is no pop at 2:10.

I have done some thinking. Since the pops come at different places I rule out too loud input signal during recording.

Has anyone had similar problems with n-tracks? Is it likely to be a software problem?.

Is it simply my computer that is not up to the task ?

The computer is not connected to an earted wallsocket. Could that be the problem?

There is the usual wirespagetti behind my PC. Could the mingled powercables and audiocables cause this?

Could nearby cellphones, neonlights(desk-lamp), powertransformators cause this ? Or other electric devices plugged into the same electric circuits - I live in a student building so I guess we are several people on the same circuit.

(has anyone made it all the way to the bottom of this ? )Any ideas? Any of the above I can rule out? Any suggestions for solutions are very welcome.

look like you have a windows ram problem, i have a similar setup as you using ntrack, i went to preferences and modified the priorty of the program to "priority" and trhe buffer channel all the way up. then you shoudl not have thepopoing, to test out the recordiing try runniong the recorded file usding another wav player and see if the pops srill there. does anyone have any plugins to share?
Jeff

THANKS MOODY!!!

Thank You Jeff!
The popping disappeared when I did as you said.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! My HP 7200i CD-BURNER

I have a HP 7200i cd burner which copies data cds fine but every time I try to copy music cds it produces a clicking or skipping noise every few seconds on the CDR. I have tried slowing the audio extraction down to optimal performance but that doesn't work. If anyone has any answers for my problem I would GREATLY appreciate it.
Thanks

Does anybody here use Magix?

If so, I (and my band) would appreciate an email address exchange for all my future trouble and maybe some idea sharing.

AND: do you know where to get directx pluggins for it? For some reason their site won't let me search for them. For some reason their site says that I don't have directx version 5.2 or higher, which is a total crock, because I know for a fact that I have 6.1...I even downloaded it twice just for their sake. What's worse, they won't even let me LOOK at the plugins because of it. DAMN...*pulling my hair*
