I think both "CD Architect"by Sonic Foundry and "Red Roaster" by Sek'd do that.
You can check their web sites to make sure or call a dealer like Sweetwater Sound

You can try Melody Assistant (a US$ 18 shareware)or Midisoft Studio (commercial US$78 but the demo is available).
These are very good software.

Please recommend Mac software for transposing music.

I want to scan a piece of music written in the key
of "C" into music that my son can play on his B-flat
trumpet. Can you suggest a good software program that
will run on a Mac computer?

Would this software also transpose from treble cleft
(e.g. keyboards) to bass cleft (e.g. trombone) ??
Our computer is not a MAC. (We have lots of Microsoft
software.) Thanks.

Advice

Hi folks,
I just purchased a very expensive PC, and would like to
apply it to my music writing and recording. Because this
thing left me broke, I don't have a lot of moolah to throw
around. Does anybody know of an affordable way to patch
at least two analogue inputs into my PC (without the
use of really expensive expansion hardware), and what software
I could use to mix it with. Does this sound crazy and
naive? Please help!

If I'm not mistaken

I tried out the demo of Cakewalk. I didn't use it a whole lot before I bought something different, but I did notice that where it asked for the recording input device for a project, it gave me a choice of the left or right channel of the stereo input on my soundcard (1/8"). I thought that was a little strange, but I theorized at the time (though I never actually tried it) that I should be able to set up to record two different tracks, each using the opposite sides of the stereo input. Of course, you need a way to get the two sound devices into the same 1/8" plug, and the tape output of any mixer should do the trick. Just plug your sound devices into two tracks on the mixer (assuming you have one) and pan them each to opposite sides.

Hopefully I'm not talking out of my ass here (I did say it was a theory), but maybe I helped out a little.

Re: Advice

I'd recommend the Audiowerk 2 from Emagic. the
card has one stereo-in and two stereo-outs. it
costs about $300.

if I understood you right, you want to mix your
midi-equipment with audio-samples? there are
several sequencers to do that work: steinberg
cubase, emagic logic, cakewalk, even the music
maker 5 is able to do that. [...bad world]

Software controller for Roland VS-880EX

The instruction manual for the Roland VS-880EX sucks. Does anyone know of cheap software that can control the recorder, and that is intuitive, or has decent instructions?

Re: Software controller for Roland VS-880EX

I lost my manuals (all of them) for my 880-ex. Now that I am more familiar with it, there are things I want to do , but I need instructions. Is there anyway to get the manuals again? Thanks for any help you can provide.

You can get all the manuals for your EX from Rolands site. PB

I totally agree. The manual sucks. Have you found out anything else. Let's talk

Yes Sir!!! LogicVS from emagic! Very affordable, and a neat audio/midi sequencer in the bargain!
You should be able to get from your local music store - if they're any good!! Price approx. 25USD - I guess - in Denmark it's 195 DKR. really cheap!!
Give me some kind of response, when you've got it!!

mp3 to .wav on a mac?

I'm attempting to write an audio CD with mp3's, but a friend told me I had to convert them to wav's first. I know winamp can do it for a PC, but how do you convert them using a Mac? Thanks.

DrMM

how about MACamp? or audiocatalyst.

but I don't know if you need a plug-in to do
encode wavs to mp3. I have WINamp but I can't
convert wave-files. but try it, it's free:
www.macamp.com
look around for some plug-ins, maybe you find the
right one.

another possibility would be the xingtech-encoder.
just enter altavista and type "mp3 encoder mac"
and you'll find some.

HAHAHAHA...have you got the time to answer...

I 'aint runnin the best of machines at the mo.....
I don't own any actual kit.......just this running
a Yamaha SW60XG and my programmes...................
At the end of the day......I want more nice, good
quality keyboard sounds..................
A friend can get us something called a giga sampler
.........or something.......................
He says the CD's he can provide only cost a couple of
quid........and they should cost a packet...........
Now then....is it worth my while buying a decent spec
machine just so I can run Cubase VST on without it
friggin crashing (which I aint really arsed about)
BUT also so I can get this Giga thingy............
............is it good programme or is he talking
through his rectum.......I haven't got any dosh so
I need to know...........

Thank you

Tom

Re: HAHAHAHA...have you got the time to answer...

to get you right: you got one synth, right?
and you can choose whether you get the giga
sampler oder cubase vst.

the giga-sampler is a virtual sampler. you can
do everything you could do with a hardware
version. but as far as I know you can't do much
more.

depends on your working-style. giga sampler is
software and it isn't as flexible as hardware-
synths. you'll also need a very fast CPU to run
that program correctly.
but I wouldn't buy cubase vst to use it with ONE
synth! get an older version and get another
synth or hardware sampler.

greets,
sniffa

Cheers for that.........but

........I've got no cash...........
fair enough, a fast comp aint exactly cheap.
And I know what your saying. I know hardware is
better.
I'm not bothered about VST, I like Audio, whatever
effects I get from my samples it's with Cool Edit
and such alike. But, if you wanna, you can help us
with this................
What should a skint person like me get if they
have no money. I want a nice synth, something
with a fair few sounds (I have a zip, that useful
in anyway......). And an easy one to use for that
matter.............I can be a bit dim at times....
Cheers mate..................

Re: Cheers for that.........but

Your words frighten and confuse me....I'm just a caveman but.......Go to www.synthzone.com and look under their section on soft-synths. You'll find something you like there. Here too!
Regards,
SE

Where to find wav music and how to convert mp3 to .wav

My question might make no sense, but I really need help.
I am currently working on some project by using Flash 4.0.
Now I want to input some .wav music, but it seems very hard to find "music" with .wav format. So if I can't find a good one, can someone show me how to get mp3 converted to .wav. It must be .wav or .aiff in order to be used in Flash. Thanks.

Question about Cakewalk Pro Audio v9

Anybody who has Cakewalk Pro Audio v9 can tell me what
the new features are/or stripped off from version 8.04?
I am looking into this software to control the Yamaha
DSP Factory. Any response is welcome.

Thanks.

transcribe software

Is there a software product that can be used to play a CD on a PC and have the ability to adjust the pitch. Also, the ability to slow to half speed.

I have seen products that will let you make a copy of a section of a song and then play that section back but not one that will just let you play the cd directly and control pitch.

Let me know if you have any info on this.

Re: transcribe software

There is a dsp plug in (For WA etc.), that'll allow you to adjust the speed WITHOUT changing the pitch. Add in the CDFS vxd file and you can play the tracks from your CD and adjust the speed w/o resampling - just hit play!.

Both of this progs can be found on my site (in the Skins&Such section.

Normalize

Hi,

I'm looking for a tool that can normalize a list of WAV files in batch. Each WAV file has to be normalized based on its own peak level.

Any idea ?

Re: Normalize

Use Wavelab. here is a batch processor but
I've never used it.

Re: Normalize

Try "AudioCatalyst". It's easiest way.

someone knows how to connect a ZOOM-9030 correctly?

few days ago I bought a used zoom-9030 effects unit.
I connected it as described in the manual:
mixer fx send -> 9030 input
9030 output -> mixer fx return

when I turn up the fx-volume for a channel I can hear
the signal including the effect. allright, but I also
hear the original-signal without effect. that makes a
typical phase-sound that sounds very middy and hard
into your ears.

anyone here who has some experience concerning my
problem?

greets,

Connected

It sounds like you are trying to use a 9030 through an auxillary send and return on a mixing console.

The 9030 was primarily a guitar effects processor / pre-amp, and may react strangely when used on a mixer with effects send and return.

If you turn the aux knob to full on the channel that you are effecting it should eliminate all of the dry signal (uneffected) and replace it entirely with the wet signal (effected).

If you use the 9030 in this manner I would suggest that you not use gain effects as these do not perform properly if run post eq. For optimum sound and performance you should run the 9030 either as an insert effect or in series (instrument -> 9030 -> mixer). If you are trying to us a microphone through the 9030 you will have to use it as an insert effect (if your console accepts inserts), or as an aux send/return, as the 9030 is not equipped with the preamps necessary for handling a microphone signal properly.

Finally the last problem you may run into by using this processor this way is that the 9030, being made for guitar/instrument use, is made to handle an instrument level signal. This signal is typically weaker than a typical line level signal (mixers, keyboards, audio eqiupment), and typically stronger than a microphone level signal.

The 9030 accepts an instrument level signal, applies gain, compression, eq, modulation effects, and reverb, then sends this signal out at line level. This is why the 9030 will work best when run instrument -> 9030 -> mixer or amp.

Hope this helps in answering your question.
