Re: VINYL -> CDA

You can use the "DART PRO 32" about 100 $US, I try with this and its very good, not wonderful, but it´s very good.

Mac or PC?

I am about to change from Atari to Mac or PC using Cubase. Does anyone have any advice on which way I should go??
Many thanks

help me.....

hi
i am using windows me/2000.i wish to run macos (8 and later) on my pc.Can i do this.plz help me

Re: Mac or PC?

I'd recommend you to change to mac, cause you
used an atari before and the mac's gui is nearly
the same as the atari's one.

but it depends on how much money you want to
spend. mac is expensive but good quality, pc is
cheap and works.
the mac has an AD/DA-interface included and
usually works faster than a pc.

(some people say cubase on mac is shit, but I
don't have any experience with cubase on a mac.)

if you got some more questions on macs, ask a
friend of mine: hksonic@aol.com

sniffa

Re: Mac or PC?

can you use cubase on a mac - powerbook 190 ?
if not can somebody tell what the simlplest set up would be in order to get going with cubase.

Yamaha SW1000XG & VST - working together?

Hello,
I have an SW1000XG installed on a pretty big and fast machine. I have VST also but cannot seem to get the pair of them to work together. Independantly, each of them work great (except when recording audio in VST, I have to mess around in the audio settings of XG Edit (XG works) to get rid of a seriously irritating buzz) VST is awsome software and SW100XG is also quite a formidable sound card...just wish I could get the 2 together. I tried messing with Hubis loop but got into a right bloody pickle.

Somebody can surely help me?

I get hiss when i record on my computer

I get a hiss when i record on my computer and I want to kill it. But I don't know where it's coming from. I have a 16bit sound card, is that the problem. I've got a PII 350 with 64M ram. I've recorded with cakewalk, n-track, goldwave, and creative studio, and i'm getting the same level of hiss from all of them.

So far I get better quality recordings from my Fostex X-18 bottom of the line 4-track.

Is this hiss thing a common problem or can I correct it.

Does anybody even know what I'm talking about.

Help me. I grew up with a pack of wild dingo's so I don't know too much about this stuff.

Try this:

Make sure that all of the equipment your using/recording has a common ground. Plug it all into the same surge protector. The nicer protectors have a light that indicates whether it's grounded properly. In my experience an improper ground is one of the most common causes of unwanted noise, so I always check that first. Depending on the age of your house you may have to check around for the best outlet. Make sure instrument cables don't lay across power cables.
Also, try moving your instrument and amplifier as far as possible from the computer, as well as maybe experiment with the way it's all facing. All electronics create and pick up a good deal of interference. I've noticed that my bass amplifier picks up a very noticeable hum as I get closer to the monitor particularly. I use a logitech cordless mouse (and hopefully soon a larger monitor) so I don't record the time it takes to walk away from the machine.

i figgered it out

i guess i feel kinda dumb at the solution too my problem.

i didn know that the SB mixer would have that big of an impact on the actual recording but it did.

so if there's any other dummies out there like dingoboy, just go to the main mixer control and fool around there.

Re: possible

Hello, Your problem is your 16 bit sound card, 16 bit not very professional, try with Tbeach Pinnacle 18 bits or other sound card like CARD PLUS or the new LArla , Gina of 20 bits, and noise level minimum (about -12 to -20 Db)

Try : www.sbfilmaudio.com

Re: possible

leofardo,

what do ya think about what sniffa has to say?

recording with 16 bit isn't the prob

I own a simple soundblaster 16 value and didn't
experience any probs with recording.

maybe the card isn't connected correctly.

incoming signals must be connected to the LINE-in
and the mic-in should be disabled.
also check the cables.

Re: recording with 16 bit isn't the prob

sniffa

: incoming signals must be connected to the LINE-in

thats what i got

: and the mic-in should be disabled.

i'm not sure about the mic-in disable though

: also check the cables.

i've got top of the line goldplated rca ends on my shielded cables

the his that i am talking about is not an overpowering hiss. some of my friends didn't even realize it was there. it is like a tape hiss.
sniffa, do you get 'zero' extra noise when you record on you're machihne? Do you get pure digital no hiss sound just like on a store bought cd player. I play my computer through my stereo not "stupid computer speakers".

the pack of dingo's that i grew up used to bite my balls if i did recording work with computer speakers. Like on a Mac.

splitting an album into individual tracks with cd-r?

I like to record live albums and mixes to cd-r.
There is no silence between songs, but I'd like
to be able to select individual songs (track)
with my cd player. Does anyone know how to assign
tracks without silence before burning to cd?

Use DartPro32 or SoundForge+CdArchitet

You can decide after the recording of the whole album or tape in wich points every track must start eliminating click and noise.
Enjoy

Re: Convert WAV or MP3 to CDA. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

: I have Toast but when I drag my WAV file onto it it just copies the WAV file - what am I doing wrong?

perhaps you are bruning the cd as a cd-rom and not a cd-a - there should be a setting asking you what type of cd you wish to burn, i.e audio or data.

how do u brun off napster

i had the program that i needed but someone took it

aaaargh!!!!

Have had Cakewalk Express Gold 6.0 for almost one month and still can't manage to play and/or record the multitude of midi instruments available (Yamaha, Kurzweil, Roland, etc.) I've tried everything... and this isn't the first time we've used a sequencer. No matter what sound I load, I hear the same general midi bank (the one that has a gunshot on voice 127) Anyone out there know where I can get a simple step by step walk thru on how to load/play/and hear the sounds available? I anxiously wait an answer from anyone?!! Christa

A quick an cheap why that I did for quite some time....using recording to a tape deck, playing back to the computer intput and using some sort of a wave editing software. I like Cool Edit. I'm assuming that you have an MP3 player installed in the computer? A lot of
MP3 players will convert and exsisting wave into the MP3 format. The one I use is called Music Match. It does well.

Re: MP3 Conversion?

Thanks for the suggestions Scotty. I'll try Cool Edit.

periodic poping during spindoctor recording

I'm getting a periodic "poping" sound when i play back my recording. I'm using SpinDoctor and recording on a mac from a cassette player pluged into my microphone input. I have a scsi ultrawide card and an ibm ultrastar 9GB hd.
on a powercenter pro 210. What might be the cause of the poping sounds?

Re: periodic poping during spindoctor recording

try shielded rca cables. they'r spendy but that's the only thing that i've found that takes care of that problem.

Re: periodic poping during spindoctor recording

Thanks for your suggestion, but I think the popping noise might be from the disk writing, which shouldn't happen since the drive is fast enough I believe to record sound. Some possible problem with extensions : sound?, scsi driver? , quicktime? , don't know, but would like to solve it.

use LINE-IN

you shouldn't connect your tapes-output to the
soundcard's mic-in but to the LINE-INput.

did you try to record on a lower volume-level?
maybe the "pops" are the results of distortion
while recording with a too high input-level.
