MC500 MKII files converted to MIDI files????

Please can anybody help me with a successful and reliable method of converting files from a Roland MC500 MkII into standard MIDI files???

I am also running Cubase VST 24/16 version 3.7 in conjunction with the Yamaha DSP Factory and AX44 breakout box, on a Pentium III MMX 450 with dual bios, 128 meg of RAM, two removable EIDE 6.1 gig hard drives, and a Midiman USB Midisport 2x2 MIDI interface.

Surely there must be someone who can offer a word of friendly and helpful advice!!!

Thanks in anticipation...... Tim.

Re: MC500 MKII files and SMF conversion

Hi Tim,

Are you still living in the same place as when I lived in Williams Rd, Toorak?

There is a program disc from Roland that will convert your files to standard midi. The other answer of course is to play your files directly into your cubase system from your MC500 and then save the transferred information into SMF.

I stopped using the MC500 a long time ago and now use a Yamaha QY700 - with excellent results.

I have a copy of the MC500 disc I can send you (with compliments) - please get in touch as I would like to talk with you. I have been living in Spain these last 6 years. I hope you and the family are well - especially your son.

I hope to hear from you - my best, Andy Martin

Re: MC500 MKII files converted to MIDI files????

Tim,

I don't understand why you're having so many problems with this - it is surely not so difficult if you apply a little lateral thinking?

A) Roland make a conversion disc - I have a copy that I would be only too happy to mail you, free of charge

B) Play your MC500 MK11 file directly into your Cubase software and sort it out there! Are you sending merged or unmerged information?

c) Record your MC500 data into your midifile player and this would perhaps automatically generate a standard midifile.

d) Put the program change numbers and data related to EACH track into a seperate MC500 track and use this as your reference track when you pass the whole lot over to your Cubase program or of course, send this info as sysex.

Your Cubase program ought to be capable of making a GM map and file? Surely?

e) Does the MC500Mk11 enable you to 'name' each midi track? Should you be sending a 'merged' song over to Cubase, it would be a simple matter of unravelling it or 'unmerging' it and then creating your standard midifile. As long as you know which voices are related to specific tracks, you ought to be able to create your GM file easily in Cubase.

Good luck, Andy (this is easy to solve!)

MIDI to WAV

Anyway of converting MIDI files to Windows PCM WAV files cause I want to burn these WAV onto a CD to make tracks. Many thanks.

Re: MIDI to WAV

: Anyway of converting MIDI files to Windows PCM WAV files cause I want to burn these WAV onto a CD to make tracks. Many thanks.

Hi,

Audio Compositor etc. are really great midi to wave rendering programs. I think Audio Compositor is probably the best, but anyway....

I think what you are asking is, if I like the soundset on my soundcard when I play my midi file, how to I make it a wave file?

If this is want you want to do, all the programs mentioned, ie Audio Compositor are useless to you and a waste of money. With that software you actually make your own soundsets/instruments out of wave files or soundbanks etc.

If you have an audio editor that records or a multitracker or anything that records wave files. Then you set up your soundcard's record properties so that you are recording the wave output. Sometimes it's called the stereo mixer or wave synthesiser or whatever. Then simply press record on your recording software and then play on your midi playing software.

Don't underestimate the basic premise of this as everything is done digitally and internally and you shouldn't experience any significant signal loss.

Of course, then you need software to prepare the wave file for burning and to do the actual burning. That's another story.

Hope this helps,
Caleb

compress your wav files 1:5 with no audible loss

hi.

new demo-4 of our TAC software package is out.

it has a broad range of compression ratios ; from 1:3 to 1:15 , the higher settings are very near lossless (can you hear or measure any loss?) , the lower gives a good answer to what could come after MP3....

same question for me, too!!!

Re: Converting RA, WAV, MP3 files to CDA

I think ra file are somewhat funky for burning to a cd but mp3's have possibilities. You'll need a decoder to convert the mp3's to 44100 hz 16 bit wave file which is what is needed to convert to cda that will play in a car player. You can find a shareware version here. http://ehoffman.simplenet.com/hplsoft/mp3dec/mp3dec142.exev. After that I use Adaptec's Easy CD Creator with a Phillips CDR

yeah yeah

Re: midi to cda format

Not knowing which sound card you have, here's the process. At some point in your signal path the midi audio signal has a line out that you can connect to an amp, mixer, etc. Connect that output to the line in of you card and record the midi signal as a wave file. You'll need some sort of software app which will allow the playback of midi and the recording of audio at the same time (i.e. Cakewalk). I'm assuming your card has an internal mixer inboard. Check the documentation for your card on routing the signal.
