Suggestion for improving this board..

Is there an address that I can E-mail with sugestions for this msg board?
I think that it would be a good idea if, when posting, you have the option to have the reply sent to your E-mail address, becuase sometimes it takes a while to get to the questions as days pass, and they get buried under other questions.

Re: Suggestion for improving this board..

You can always email me, MaTTeO. For the record, I like your idea.

Re: Suggestion for improving this board..

How about making this a members only board? Usually the way a board works is 1) you have a topic and 2) People post multiple responses. This board is out of control!!!! Too many random people asking the same questions that have allready been answered, people looking for song lyrics, etc. Look at EQ's, mixonline, etc. Now there's some REAL boards!
I think if you had to register to post, there wouldn't be so many ignorant posts. my $.02

Re: Suggestion for improving this board..

Having a memebrs only board is an interesting idea, but I have to guess, part of the reason its like this is so people who just have one or two questions can get help.. although, usually teh manufacturer of their CD-R has help on their site, and there are hundreds of tutorials online, about how to burn an audio CD, and what it means when it's not an acceptable file type....

Difficult to tell what you are looking for.
PEAK is good for sound editing while Waveburner is good for mastering.

Revitalising old classic tapes!

Howdy all, I'm basically after music software which will enhance somne classic tapes I've made so I can then burn them onto CD. Essentially something that filters out the crap and also can boost the high frequencies, and I guess off course would be great if it was easy to use etc etc

Cheers, Darren Morris :)

SDRAM

Hi, I'm running music software along with Net Meeting and come up short of memory. How can I tell how much SDRAM is being used at any one time? Thank you for any help you can offer.

newbie here, please help with basic questions!!

Hi. I'm new to electronic recording and have a few questions to get me started recording on my computer. I play bass (elec and standup), a rhodes, and have a friend on trumpet.

My goal is to find software, samplers, and sequencers(?), and a hardware interface/soundcard to allow the input of mic inputs or 1/4" jacks.
We're trying to get a finished recording where we could use a software program that would work like a mpc2000 and use sampled real drum sounds to get a trip-hop sound. Also, we would need a software sampler to record and loop a bassline and rhodes lines, and a multitrack recorder to record the real time playing of a trumpet and put all these tracks together for a final sound.

I'm not trying to create a complex midi/electronic sound, no digital keyboards or synth sounds, but instead want to end up with a semi-live trip-hop sound.

What are the simplest software programs I need to do this?
What sound card/interface with d/a converters will allow me to record instruments and mics into my computer?
Where can I find basic tutorials to help me along? I really dont understand midi/sampling/sequencing much at all.

Thanks a bunch in advance!!

Re: newbie here, please help with basic questions!!

To start, for a multi input card for your computer, try M Audio's Delta series 44/66 or 1010
also, mark of the unicorn has something that might fit the bill. www.motu.com

The Collectors - Lydia Purple

This was a song in the 60's. Can anyone assist me in getting the complete lyrics of the song?

An e-mail response would also be appreciated.

Lydia Purple
Lydia Purple lives in a steeple
Tall by nature, colored by people
Lydia Purple was taken for granted
By people that knew her, who's views were all slanted

Writeing sonets dayly, drinking apple tea
Lydia pretending she is free

Living there lonely, a view from her window
She keeps to herself and peaks through the keyhole
At the end of her first year, her walls were all painted
She wrote to her lover who never existed

Writeing sonets dayly, drinking apple tea
Lydia pretending she is free

Inst

Singing softly she tends her time
Sweet xxxxx, heart of mine
She sings

Inst

By the close of her third year she talked to her mirror
Her questions were cleaver, her answers much clearer
Lydia Purple lives in a steeple
Tall by nature, colored by people

(fade out)
Lydia Purple lives in a steeple
Tall by nature, colored by people

Lydia Purple lives in a steeple
Tall by nature, colored by people

Lydia Purple lived in a steeple
Tall by nature, colored by people

Re: The Collectors - Lydia Purple

Fellow Collectors fans!!! I thought we had all died!
Heard that there were 3 collectors albums before they turned into Chiliwack. I have a very scratched "The Collectors" album but haven't been able to find the others.
Looking for cd/tape/vinyl anything that isn't so damaged.

Also: Found this thread and alot more using a free search engine I downloaded that weeds out all other uses of "Collectors" it's called MP3lyrix.

Good to know I'm not alone in my musical tastes.

please get in touch w/ me at:
johnydotcom@yahoo.com

Re: The Collectors - Lydia Purple

I heard Chilliwack Saturday night, August 17th, 2002, in Vancouver. They were good, but they weren't The Collectors. Bill Henderson was the only Collector in the band.

Bill told me that The Collectors and Grass and Wild Strawberries were on CD, but aren't available any more. He is trying to get them rereleased on CD.

So far as the lyrics to Lydia Purple, search google.com for lydia purple and you'll find them. A few lines aren't right, but most of it is. I'm trying to figure out the rest.

Re: The Collectors - Lydia Purple

Here they are... don't know about the accuracy, but its a start.

I'M new at this so I don't know if my message will get through. I have this song on cd and would love to send it to you. Maybe you can tell me how. If you havn't got the lyrics by now let me know and I'll listen to the song and get them for you. Do you know about the COLLECTORS? They are Canadian and I believe were originally called The CHESSMEN.

Re: The Collectors - Lydia Purple

Does anyone know who wrote the song? Looking at the album (which I don't owe by the way. Lucky a friend got it) it's the only song they didn't write!

Very curious..

Re: The Collectors

Does anyone know if the debut album of the Canadian sixties symphonic rockband avant-la -lettre The Collectors (a.a. What is love, Lydia Purple, One act play) available on CD?
I recently rediscovered the What Love Suite: classic in every sense of the word.
Can anyone help me?

Pieter van Kesteren, The Netherlands

Re: The Collectors - Lydia Purple - P.S.

I meant to say also that even the All Music guide, an excellent site, does not list all the song titles, though it gives album titles, and two singles. If anyone has those singles, please put them on your computer and get on Napster! And typing in the Collectors in any search engine to hopefully find a web site that lists song titles so far has proved fruitless except to bring me this message board!

Re: The Collectors - Lydia Purple - P.S.

Funny I came across this thread... I just picked up a copy of the Collectors album at Discount Records in Lake Forest CA for $.66 - they were having a sale. (Big Chilliwack fan... fly at night rocks!)
Anyway, I was searching on Google to find out what group may have originally recorded Lydia Purple, since it is the only cut that wasn't written by the band members. Written by Don Dunn and Tony McCashen. And it sounded awfully familiar. Will still try some searches on these names...
Since you asked, here are the cuts on the album:
Side 1
What is Love (3:45)
She (Will-o-the-Wind) (3:45)
Howard Christman's Older (5:10)
Lydia Purple (2:45)
One Act Play (3:40)
Side 2
What Love (Suite) (19:15)

Good Luck!

Re: The Collectors - Lydia Purple - P.S.

I knew Don Dunn and Tony McCashen many years ago, so long ago they probably do not remember me. Around 1966 they were with a folk-rock group called the Deep Six. Other members included Dan Lottermoser, who has co-written some songs with Kenny Loggins, as well as many other projects.

Tony has been involved with some surprising projects over the years. I believe he was with Captain Beefheart and His Magic Bad for a time. He has worked as a Sound Engineer (at Western Studios?) and numerous projects as a session guitar player. You never know where his name will turn up - look through a list of the Monkees session musicians and you will find his name among them. I remember sitting with Tony at the Glendale Ice House one night as we traded guitars. As I held Tony's Mosrite he got a killer sound from my cheap import guitar. That was the night I realized a good musician is much more important than a fine instrument.

Don Dunn is one of a handful of songwriters who belong in the category of "Creative Genius" (Tony deserves the same title). I reserve the title for few, such as Billy Ed Wheeler, Tom Paxton, Jimmy Ibbotsen and a few others. As a team, they are even better than as individuals. They deserve much for recogntion than they have received, although at least 5 platinum records on the wall is some recognition I suppose.

There were two albums I know of by the team. I believe one was simply entitled "Dunn and McCashen" and the other was entitled "Mobius". As was the "Deep Six" album, I think the record label was Liberty.

They have put on terrific performances in small venues, at Winterland (I seem to remember them opening for Sly and the Family Stone).

Their own version of Lydia Purple is to be found on their first duo album ("Mobius" I think). Hitchcock Railway may be found on at least 5 albums by Joe Cocker, although the best is to be found on the first Dunn and McCashen Album. I have seen Claire Lynch perform a Bluegrass version of Hitchcock Railway. I have waited to buy the CD of her version for some time. The only reason I have delayed is because nothing comes close to the magic of Dunn and McCashen singing together.

As good as the Collector's may have recorded the song, it is far short of the voice of Don Dunn. You owe it to yourself to find any recording you can of the two of them working together.
