ROLAND UA-30 PROBLEMS

does anyone knwo much about the ROLAND UA-30??

i am running it with Mac OS 9.04 & am getting terrible digital distortion from my digital transfers from DAT.

it is intermittent and comes and goes on any tape.

only i can't see what i'm doing wrong...

Re: ROLAND UA-30 PROBLEMS

I think emagic is coming out with a usb interface that would be MUCH better than the ua 30. The ua 30 is not that good. Youd be well served to go for the emagic unit, tascams 428 usb. And, if you have firewire consider the motu 428.

Re: Transfer Cassette to CD (mp3 or .wav)

The easiest solution is to do it yourself on you computer if you have a CD recorder on your computer. You can buy an internal one for $100 or an external USB one for $190. Then you are set to record and "burn" i.e. copy on a CD. If you need further info. just email. (I won't write in detail because your original post if from May, and I'm not sure if you're still interested.)

Re: Transfer Cassette to CD (mp3 or .wav)

Here are some places that advertise converting ALBUMS to CD but they probably do casettes as well. It's not cheap though.
Here are a few companies to try:

Great Recordings (www.great-recordings.com): Charges $55 an hour to restore vinyl recordings and burn them on CDs.

Multimedia Duplication Services in Atlanta, Ga. (www.mdsdubs.com/frameindex.htm): Prices include a $25 transfer fee and $25 for each hour of music recorded to CD.

Magic Sound Restoration in Windermere, Fla. (www.lp2cd.com): Charges $19.95 per album recorded to CD or $29.95 if you want vinyl recording cleaned.

RECtify in Grove City, Pa. (www.rectifylp.com): Will clean and restore 26 to 50 albums and transfer them to CD for $10.49 each.

Help for a novice.

I've been composing music for a while with keyboards & samplers and I'm looking to start writing music on my PC. This is what I need:

-relatively inexpensive, preferably free
-the ability to create loops and/or soundbites from CD's and VHS
-the ability to be either loop-based or sequencer-based
-fairly easy to pick up

I know it's a lot to ask. Any advice? Thanks.

There IS a free version of ProTools. Might be a little intimidating at first, but I hear it's good.

http://aria.digidesign.com/ptfree/ptfree_orderonline.html

As for extracting audio from CD, try the free version of audiograbber.

http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/download.html
http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/agfreesetup.exe

For loop based software you can't do better than Sonic Foundry's ACID

http://www.sonicfoundry.com/download/Step3.asp?URLID=956&SerialNum=&EntryPoint=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Egoogle%2Ecom%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dsonic%2Bfoundry%2Bacid%2Bfree

Also check out the tutorials in Computer Music magazine and Future Music magazine.

http://www.computermusic.co.uk
http://www.futuremusic.co.uk
http://www.intermusic.co.uk

There are other programs around (n-Track studio 1.2, Making Waves Lite2.4, eJay, Magix Music Maker and others have been included on the CD that comes with Computer Music magazine) so always try new ones to see what does the job.

When all else fails go to www.google.com and type "freeware midi audio software" as keywords or "midi tutorial tips tricks" for assistance in learning.

Cheers,

Re: Help for a novice.

Hey could I use your car and eat some food from your fridge. Preferably free? Sorry Sikkel but you won't really get what you want for free. But the software you can check out is pretty good and worth buying.

Computer freezes while recording

I have a Plexwriter and I'm using easy cd creator. Almost every time I try to record a cd it will get several songs then just freeze up, I have to turn the computer off and then back on. I have a pile of scrap cd's and don't know why it does this, once in a while it will record perfect. I have checked all my settings, bought new cd's which are compatable with the 8X speed, HELP!!!

Make sure that your anti-virus software is disabled. Also check on your hard drive status: ie run scandisk, defrag and make sure that you have at least 3 times the space needed for your cd

Re: Computer freezes while recording

well, what speed (RAM/Proc.) computer are your running? Could be that but if it not, are you using 80 minute discs? If so, I am one of the believers that 80min discs are imperfect and buggy, you need to slow down your write speed... back off of 8x, if you have say a P3 or AMD Athlon or the like then try a 4x burn... 80min discs may SAY they support 8x but they don't...

Re: Computer freezes while recording

ROGER--You may have to turn off your clock and screen saver--When I'm sequencing, if I don't turn the clock and screen saver off, my computer will lock up sometimes. CLick on the "Start" button--click on "settings", click on "Start menu" then "show clock"--Turn clock off--then go to "My computer"--then to "control Panel", then to "display"--then to "screen saver", then select "none"--This may not be the problem, but it sure makes a difference in a lot of sequencing problems--ROBERT--

Digitech "Studio Vocalist" sequencing-

Can anyone tell me if you program key changes for the vocalist on the keyboard of the sequencer, or do you push the buttons on the "Vocalist" to sequence chord changes and save them--I want to use a Yamaha 730 to play my background music and send chord changes to the vocalist telling it when to come in and what chord to sing in--thanks!!

I did a research project with Fur Elise as a large component. As far as I have researched, this is the only conclusions i can draw.
Fur Elise means For Elisa. Back around Beethoven's time, it was common for musicians to have albums of music. Friends would create songs for each other and write them in their albums. They were called Albumblatt, or Album sheets. Beethoven, however, created this music outside of Elise's albumbook, which is likely how it was found and made popular. The original title was probably simply "Albumblatt fur Elise", meaning "Albumsheet for Elise", who was likely a friend or student.

Fur Elise is NOT the title of this work. It is the dedication or subtitle. As a child I had this composition to practice and I remember that the title actually is "Albumblatt". I guess that Fur Elise is a more romantic title. However, I do not know what it is in reference to.

Re: Need info on Fur Elise by Beethoven

Acid or similar for Mac?

I'm looking for software similar to Acid that will seamlessly string together loops into one song. I don't believe there is a Mac version of Acid. Is there an effective easy-to-use software for the Mac that has the same capabilities as Acid. At this point I don't need a ton of bells and whistles. Also, is there any freeware of shareware out there of Acid-like software?

need help for school project

hi, i am doing a report for my comp app 2 class over the tools needed to create music over the internet! or anything having to do with music over the web ,other than napster. do you have any info for me on this? or know where i can get some? if anyone can help please e-mail me at the address below! thanks :)

Re: need help for school project

Well... if you are referring to the actual CREATION of music via internet collaboration, Rocket Network, is the big name. Steinberg Cubasis, Logic Audio, Digidesign Pro Tools, and several other big names are players in the Rocket Network online collaboration forum. Search for this on a search engine. If you want info on the process of streaming audio media on the net , mp3.com is a viable resource and there are a variety of similar platforms including farmclub.com. If you want technical info on the fundamental elements of streaing audio media a good primer is researching microsofts direct and and WDM utilities as well as the format mp3. Hope this is some help...
