Re: Converting wrk files to midi

.wrk files are the format that Cakewalk writes. The easiest way to convert them to midi is through Cakewalk. Open the .wrk file in Cakewalk then goto "save as". Pull down the "save as type" menu and select the file type "MIDI format 1" then press "save" this will save the file as a midi file with the same name as the .wrk file (type in a new name first if you want a different one).

Obviously if you don't have a version of Cakewalk, you're stuffed! I do not know of a file converter that will do it (although there may be one - check out the shareware on the hitsquad site) If you are really stuck, you could always mail your wrk files to me and I will convert them for you!

LM4 with CubaseVST

I just got the LM4 module for CubaseVST and realized theres no play/record buttons on there. How do you use it with VST? (I'm not too knowledgeable on midi).
HELP!

Re: LM4 with CubaseVST

LM4 is not a drum machine! You must first up load it with .wav files then play it via a midi controller.

how u add music in e-mail

I need help can some 1 show me how 2 add music in e-mail thanks alot......

Re: how u add music in e-mail

: I need help can some 1 show me how 2 add music in e-mail thanks alot......

I have tried every code possible to get midi to play automatically in my email.I typed it in my emal sig.box exactly as it was printed off. you can click on it, and it will play but no autostart. I know there are codes you have to click to make them play.but no luck on auto.this dummy needs a little help.thanks

Re: how u add music in e-mail

You've not made it clear what type of music file you want to add, but if it's a Midi file just send it as an attachment (Click on the paperclip icon, then browse your disc and select the midi file you want to attach).

I wouldn't recommend trying to send any Mp3 or audio files by Email as they are likely to be too large for the recipient's mailbox.

If you want to send a message that automatically plays music when it's opened, then I'm afraid I don't know how that's done myself!

Pro Tools LE and MIDI ??

I am going to change my setup to a Pro Tools Digi 001.
Up until now, I have been using soundfonts and the sounds on my sound card to playback my midi tracks. with Pro Tools none of this will be available so I am wondering what I can use to play back my midi (specially drum sounds) Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks

Re: Pro Tools LE and MIDI ??

if you download and install a virtual midi port like Hubi's Loopback (free http://www.polyhedric.com/software/ml/mdlbk251.zip), then you can route midi to your soundcard or virtual sampler.

Re: Pro Tools LE and MIDI ??

You will need to use a MIDI sound module or a synth as digi001 doesn't have any sounds. Im not sure if you can but you may be able to route the audio/MIDI from your sound card back into the digi001. Take a look at www.digidesign.com website as Pro Tools is going to be free soon.

Re: Pro Tools LE and MIDI ??

I have digi001 and, Im surtain that u can play midi to your soundcard. then just plug jack in soundcard and in on the 001 breakoutbox. then u can record the midi and mix in protools. If u are using a sb64/32 awe, then u apply the sf2 bank in sted of using the default one. then just select midi out in pro tools, sbawe64midisynth out and u can use your sf2. You can also download drum samples and use them instead.. it is almost like editing midi drums because the grid in protools is fine. 3 adv. you can still have cubase in your computer and make drumloops there using loopazoid plugin for exsample. Export audio exports the loop, remember the tempo and walla.. drums like your wish.... hope this helps.. just send me mail if anything else..

Can someone please give me step by step procedure on how to make

thanks

Re: Can someone please give me step by step procedure on how to

: thanks

Drop me a line, and I will try to help you. I have a feeling there are other easier ways than using cakewalk.

Yours Roy

You're having a laugh

You've been told already Torown. A FEW times. Are u having a laugh or what? Have u read the answers to this question below?? Why don't you read the manual if you're having so much trouble.

steve

Check the manuals...

What Midi files?? what equipment do you have?? The information for importing wave files into Calkwalk should be a clearly marked section in the manual.

People generally can't and wont want to go so deeply into a system they don't know anything about. Don't just type in the subject line, list your equipment and connections. Midi interfaces, audio card inputs etc, synths, sampler etc etc etc...

record in mp3 format

I want to record mp3 music in mp3 format. I have the new Philips Expanium mp3 cd player and I can't seem to find a recorder to do this. MusicMatch does but it always has an error when closing. I think it is because mine is not a re-recordable. HELP please!

Music software

I am looking for software that I can use to write music
in sheet music format for a guitar. I want write the
words, chords and melody line if possible. What is best
software to buy, sharewhare???

Re: Music software

Hi there, I'm a vocalist songwriter. The problem is that I don't play any instrument. I'm wondering If does exist a software can help. I can play the melody line on my key, but I would prefer singing directly in the computer.
Thanks

Re: Music software

Hi,

You will find a variety of programs that can meet your needs at <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/NOTATION/">http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/NOTATION/</a>.

Give these a try:
<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Wincarp/">WinCarp Studio 1.0</a>
<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Voicings/">Voicings</a>
<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/TablEdit/">TablEdit</a>
<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Guitar_Workshop/">Guitar Workshop</a>

I hope this helps.

Cheers
Geoff

This site has problems

If this site was well designed then Ray you would have found suitable software listings before asking this question. I suggest you go to www.sonicspot.com and click 'Notation' for a list of notation based music software.

steve

I think the problem is...

...that a lot of people come here and don't actually look around from the home page. The claim of thousands of files to download may not be massive, but it's clear enough. People probably link here and just want to ask questions. You could put a message through to SMM and suggest any improvements that you think would help. They keep themselves to themselves quite well though but i'm sure that they would be interested in you comments. After saying the, I think I tend to agree that something should be done, maybe a link at the top of the forum "Clearly" stating that the <<<FILE AREA IS IN HERE>>> sort of thing...

HEY SMM... HOW ABOUT IT???... I feel guilty when I can't be bothered to tell people to look in the file area but I can't keep telling people to look under their nose...

Cheers

Steve

The Radium Rebirth Page

[The body of this post has been lost]

nice site

nice site there ;) Only problem ofcourse is that Rebirth is difficult to get to grips with compared to FruityLoops which I'd say knocks the socks off it too!

are wave files good enough for professional sound

i have a demo version of fruity loops and have been thinking of getting full package/a) is it worth it,
can wave files give a quality sound when it comes to the final stages of the mix?

Yes and Yes again

Yes the full fruity (TS404) is well worth the money for the program itself and when compared to the price companies like Cubase charge for their products.

Morgan .wav files are essentially CD quality samples so there really is no improving on a .wav file. Music is recorded either with audio (.wavs) or MIDI or even both together. Midi can sound good so long as you have a top quality sound card. But all pro records are usually made of .wavs. For best results you would get well recorded .wav samples from a CD or make your own from synths etc. You would record real instruments + voice in .wav format too. As SteveR says there are ways of improving the quality of the standard .wav file. They are usually 16 bit and 4400Khz or something. You can increase these rates in most programs but disk space + processor usage are increased. As I say though standard rates match exactly CD quality.

If you like fruity I'd say get it you may also want a sequencer to put fruity tracks into and add vocals alongside? Data Beckers Music Centre Pro is an excellent budget one.

steve

PS there is a fruityloops discussion page on this site http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/FruityLoops_win95/

Yes...

A wave, is a representation of the audio which should be in an uncompressed digital format. If you want to improve on the quality of the sound then you'll have to look into 24bit and 32 bit recording. More than likely though, the WAVE will do you well.. Change it to MP3 though and you may start to struggle with a bunch of them playing at the same time. I have seven 20bit .AIF's (waves) so far in a song i'm making and the sound is clear as a gin and tonic... Burp!

Yamaha A3000 SCSI transfer to a mac?

Can I transfer samples using the SCSI conector?

Thanks in advance.

It's easy if you know how...

Hi.

I use a Yamaha EX5r with SCSI connected to a ZIP100 that is then connected to my G4 SCSI card. From within programs like Bias Peak, Spark and other editors, you can address a Yamaha sampler and send a receive samples between devices remarkably simply. You can choose Yamaha or just the SMDI sample transfer protocol. I think Yamaha give away a program for the purpose of SMDI sample transfer to and from Macs to Yamaha A3000. TWE or something....

5mins later...

http://www.yamahasynth.com/down/a3000/s_twe.htm

That's it. It's freeware too. Don't expect a lot but it will transfer then and offer some editing facilites too.

Good luck....

Field Recordering

Hello.
I am interested in making field recordings, both music and dialogue, bringing it home, editing, and then burning the edited material onto CD. Any sugestions? I am thinking of a hand held recorder such as a mini disk recorder but am limited in my knowledge. It seems as if the local electronics stores are limited in their knowledge on the subject as well.
Thank You,
Tim.

MD definately

Hi Tim

mini disks record digitally with CD quality so if the end product is a CD then it would be silly to use anything other than a 'digital' recorder. Now for excellent results you should use a big microphone which should be plugged straight into a minidisk microphone socket. The bigger the mic the better the pick up of quiet sounds. If you are going to record quiet sounds like bird song lets say then you could check various recorders for thier mic 'pick up' rate - I think this may be listed in the documentation as an 'Ohm' level. They don't come with 'amplifiers' to boost a mic input I don't think whereas pro recorder used for TV work etc will have. However quiet signals could be boosted in your PC quite effectivly with an audio editor. Another prblem you may have with a MD is monitoring the signal as it happens. This would be a good feature which they may have or not. You can always record a bit and listen back to it then reposition the mic.

converting wav to mp3

when I convert my own recorded wavs to mp3 they become lighter, as in "hard to hear", "low volumed".
I can hear them quite well on wav, but on mp3 they almost not hearable.
when I change proffesional recordings it turns out great. can anyone help?
by the way, I use CDEX, the lastest version I could find.
Is there something much better (and free) you could recomend?

CDex

Hey Jin

I use CDex too! Have u opened the settings page (Options>Settings) and messed about with the volume facility? There is a box to check to enable volume boost. Ensure the bit rate conversion is atleast 128kb under Encoder too (Options>Settings>Encoder).

Classical electronic music

I'm interested mainly in harpsichord music. I edit sheet music. I would be interested in editing this music on CD. Which are the possible MIDI softwares to conduct the music 'naturally'...that is to add thrills, arpeggios, articulation, all these made graphically. I admit that I do not know MIDI so well, and I hate the piano roll edition.
There is not only acid and house music on earth.
Thanks in advance.
