Re: Windows XP

That's a really vague question. Suffice it to say, XP is new and there probably aint many programs written or adapted for it just yet.

: Which software should I use if Windows XP is my operating system?

Re: Windows XP

Are you talking about using 98 software on XP versus 2000 software? If so it really varies some 98 stuff will work while the 2000 won't. A lot of the time both versions will work.

Recording from online

I recently downloaded some music from Audiogalaxy.com and I was wondering how to use my cdrw on my computer to record the songs on a cd? This is all new to me on how to operate the cdrw!

Re: to change extension of files

Hi,

I am not sure about .kin, I never heard of it to be honest,
however there's always a way as long as you have
at least a .kin player. What you can do is download
Total Recorder, and have total recorder capture
you playing the .kin file, you can then save what
you recorded as wave. I doubt you'll have any difficulty
converting wave to mp3. Hope that helps...What kind of file is
.kin anyway?

Thanks,
Hish

S/P dif in harddisk recording or scsi?

On my harddiskrecorder I have a lot of tracs (in one song) that I want to transfer to my computer. Then I want to add som VST effects on som tracsk. How can I transfer=move one song from my Harddiskrecorder to PC and still have all my tracs on the song? (one song many wav)

Using S/P dif :
How many tracs can be moved at one time?
Is there a sync problem by using S/p dif?
Is it posible to move all the tracs from my HD to PC using scsi and keep all the tracs?

Depends...

You can sometimes transfer via SCSI but that doesn't mean that the HD recorder is going to be able to keep seperate tracks in a bundle that your computer based sequencer is going to understand. In fact, it's very unlikely....

SP/DIF can be looked at in exactly the same way as an analogue input. There is no difference other than the information remains in the digital domain instead of being converted by the HD recorder to analogue, sent down the analogue line and then converted to digital again by the computer...

The best way I know to achieve what you want is to 'Sync' the computer sequencer and the HD recorder using any sync from Midi sync and MTC to SMPTE. I do this succesfully all the time with a Roland VS880, MTC sync'd to a Mac G4 running Logic Audio. You have to do one track at a time (stereo) or you can pan two seperate tracks left and right and do two at a time but I don't recommend it with all systems as cross talk can be an issue...

More information if you like, get back to me....

help me with soft to convert to MSA styles

Do You have some soft that can convert MSD (or other) style to MSA , with serial. Or MSA styles, to trade. Send me please!
Thanks.
Peeter

Re: help me with soft to convert to MSA styles

You may not need to have a software. There are MSA styles you can download from Roland websites around the world.

Which Soundcard?

I want to record dj mixes to burn cds from.

I need to buy a new soundcard with right & left (RCA type) inputs.

Any advice/recommendations?

Re: Which Soundcard?

Almost all the "cheap" soundcards use a 3.5mm stereo jack plug for input rather than RCA phono sockets, although the SB Live! Platinum may have them fitted to the drive bay. If you really need RCA connectors, then you'll have to look at the professional soundcards which cost a lot more.

Is there any reason why you can't buy an adapter which will allow you to connect phono plugs to a 3.5mm jack plug?

Pops & Cracks on MP3's recorded from CD's

I understand that MP3 is a lossy converter. Does that mean if I convert a MP3 file to wav, fix the bad spots with my wav editor and convert it back to MP3 again that I will loose quality? Is there an MP3 editor that can edit MP3's directly without converting them to wavs?

Re: Pops & Cracks on MP3's recorded from CD's

There are editors here. If you convert the MP3 to WAV and then 'clean' it and convert back to MP3. You're not going to end up with a dramatic improvement in quality. You would get rid of some of the pops though. Why don't you just try for yourself anyway?

Wav. file conversion for the VS-840

Is there any way to convert vs4 files (on my zip disk) to wav. files AT my computer (a file conversion program), rather than utilizing the 840's convertor itself?

Re: Wav. file conversion for the VS-840

As you might know, the 840 uses a codec (RDAC) for recorded audio to reduce it in size. It is designed by roland, and they seem to have it patended... At the moment I know that on an 880, in mastering mode, the audio can be loaded into a wave editor like Cool Edit, by reading it as a motorola-coded, RAW wave. In other modes, a convertor is needed. I've found the following url in a forum. It's a program for another roland device, which also uses RDAC. It may be helpful, and maybe with a little programming it can be used to convert those RDAC-files from the VS-840! I certainly hope so... Just check the program:

Sorry I can't help you, even if my name does happen to be Scott. But I'm trying to find out the VERY SAME THING! So that's why I'm slipping this message in sideways. I did find a couple of promising links on the subject - all the the same site, e.g. http://tihlde.org/~timh/download.html -but none of the links work. We shall see...

How to get Passport to write / play drum parts

piano software that shows keys played?

Hello,

I've seen some beginner keyboards out there that have an LCD display on them that show a small keyboard and the notes you hit show up on that screen corresponding to the note on the keyboard. I wanted to know if there is computer software that would allow you to open up a midi file and watch the midi file being played, lighting up the correct keys on a virtual keyboard image. If there is I would love to find it and pay money for it. I learn more visually than from reading how-to books. Thanks in advance

hey.... pleas read!!

hi!
im tring to learn the piano but i dont know the note. would u recommend me a site that would show me the notes on a keyboard.
thanks alot.

Re: piano software that shows keys played?

: : Vanbasco's Karaoke Player has that feature, it's free too!

Re: piano software that shows keys played?

I, too, am looking for such a program. I was thrilled to discovered Midi Piano Teacher recently, but it seems all the links I find to the download are dead ends. Evidently, they are out of business or their site is down. Did you find a program that will show the names of the notes or light up the keys on a keyboard??? And leads you may have will be greatly appreciated.
