Looking for software

I have a 4 track cassette recorder/mixer. I also have a drum machine, bass guitar, 2 guitars, keyboard and microphone. I have been playing around with laying down each track individually and mixing. I don't know whether to try to do more of it with a PC program or just take my finished tape and run it through a software program that would clean up the noise. Any suggestions? I don't know if I would have to record each track through the input on my sound card as .wav files or what the best way to go about this is.

Re: Looking for software

yo man ... I would say you're definetely barking up the right tree ... PC's and software offer infinite editing/mixing/effects possibilities, no question .. I record my guitars direct into the PC as a Wave file through my small mixing desk, either record the track whole or take loops. You can then edit this wave without end, use EQ, reverb - there's a million and one (often free) plug-ins that you can use - flanger, phase, delay, etc, etcetera ... you could either use your 4-track to record then record into the PC (probably through stereo line in - you'll need a little adaptor), then if you want to record back to tape or whatever back out the stereo soundcard output .. check out www.pc-music.com for more details, and www.computermusic.co.uk ... Go For It!

Re: Looking for software

No need to go to those other sites. They don't cover the ground as well or as consistently. If i were you, I'd phase in the PC-based recording. You really can do so much that you won't know what to do with yourself.

n-Track is a great multi-track recorder. It's a great place to start.

Yup, like i said, forget those other sites. Go to the front page of this site. There's dozens of software categories!

dump the 4 trak

the quality + possibilities on PC recording will astound u once u get into it. If you try to record each track individually from 4track u will soon hear the difficulty - tapes players 'wow + flutter' so over a 3 min track all yer tracks will loose sync with each other - garanteed!

need help

hey my name is chad and i am having problems. The problem is that i bought a cd-rom blaster 52x and it didn't come with no cd to instal and i can not get my blank cd to burn on it. is they any body out there that can help me

Re: need help

If it's a CD-ROM, then you can't burn CDs with it.
If it's a CD-RW, then you should be able to get the drivers
from Creative's website.

Mini Disk Recordings

I have a Mac G4 and would like to know what I need to convert my live mini disk recordings to mp3 so I can burn a standard CD. Can anyone help?

Re: Mini Disk Recordings

The only way is to connect the minidisc player to the audio in
on your Mac (assuming it has one), then use a suitable audio
recording package to record the music. Note that if you record
them as MP3s onto a CD, you'll need a player capable of reading
MP3s directly.

Erasing CDs

How do you erase CD-Rs when you've had to cancel a
recording in the middle on Adaptec's EasyCD Creator?

Re: Erasing CDs

You don't. Once you've written to a CD-R, then that, as they say, is it. Once written, it's there for good. Only CD-RW discs can be erased like a normal floppy or hard disc.

Andy

Re: Erasing CDs

sometimes you can put them face up in the direct sunliht for a long time. that worked for a couple of mine!

SCSI Problems

I can't get my zip files to come up on my desk top when i insert a zip disk into an external drive, i've tried changing the id number but it hasnt helped, by the way this is on a mac, can anyone help??

SCSI ID...

What Mac?? If it's SCSI then you should get a small program called "SCSI Prob"e... Run it and it will tell you what you have on the SCSI chain and the ID number of all the devices. If it's not there, then you have a problem with either the SCSI card/buss or you have a device in the SCSI chain before the ZIP drive that has a terminator switched on.

Another thing.... Do you have the IOMEGA extension turned in the extension manager?? that one got me for a while...!

LP Ripping

Any advice on converting LP's to CD via sound card/PC greatly appreciated.
Preference for using free doftware or uncrippled shareware.
Many Thanks

Did you read the answer I posted to your first question?

Andy

Re: Did you read the answer I posted to your first question?

Thanks for your reply Andy
It's actually a matter of asking the right question I guess.
Apart from the matter of pre-amp and cabling, is there a preferred "free" software programme which will record and automatically create the necessary track breaks.
I know LP Ripper works, but it's "crippled".
Thanks.

playing mp3s in a dvd

How do i play mp3s in my dvd player

Re: playing mp3s in a dvd

: How do i play mp3s in my dvd player

I think you can on some dvd players, but they must be on the cd and in no folders, just plain on the cd. That's as far as i know. Let me know if this helps.

Re: playing mp3s in a dvd

I did finally manage to track two models down. More info at http://members.tripod.co.uk/ittroll/clones.htm

Andy

Re: playing mp3s in a dvd

Simple answer is..you don't. Unless your DVD player is equipped with an MP3 decoder (and I don't think any do), there's no way you'll get an MP3 to play.
