The simple answer is no. There have been various claims about software that can do
it but the results are poor to say the least. They work on the assumption that the
vocal is in the centre of the stereo soundstage, but more often than not the vocals
aren't. Also, in the process of removing them, anything that happens to be in the
same position is also removed, leading to a huge reduction in quality.

If anyone out there want's to prove me wrong, I'd be very interested in hearing the
results from something other than a simple recording (i.e. one selected because it
happens to work well with the software).

Find a stereo that takes tapes which also has a headphone socket.

You will need some editing software like cool edit or soundforge, or you can use the sound recording software that comes with windows.

connect the cable from the stereo headphone socket to the back of your sound card (there will be a socket with LINE IN)

Load up sound recorder press record and press play on the stereo, you may need to adjust the vol on the stereo so it doesn`t distort

It's relatively simple. A cassette machine has a line level output that is compatible with the line level input on a computers sound card or a mac audio input. It's a matter of having the correct lead which is usually the cassette output connector(s) to the soundcards input connector(s). This is usually in the form of a phono (RCA) to minjack lead although this varies with different equipment. Hifi shops or Radio shacks have these sorts of lead.

After the connection is made, it's a matter of using some recording software that allows you to record the audio input of the computer. There is a ton of it in the file download area on this site but you will have to have a look yourself as no computer platform was given. Check under audio recording. This will allow you to start a recording from the audio input and then you can press play on the cassette and it will record the information to a file (.wav/.aif) which is easily burnable with any CD burner software.

RealJukebox Files, Recovering when key is lost ?

My daughter recorded many hours of music on Realjukebox. She did not realize ther was a key and did not copy it. Had to reformat the hard drive, before she reformated the drive she copied the Realjukebox files to CD. When we reloaded the system and downloaded Realjukebox again, tried to play the files no go.
Is there any way to recover or unlock those files to make them usable again on Realjukebox or any player?

Any help appreciated.

The best software is likely to be the one that suits you best as opposed to what suits me best. You really should download a few programs and check them out. <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/LPRipper/">LP Ripper</a> is one good program. How do I convert Opcode SVP files to midi format??

I just read that Opcode has suspended day-to-day operations!!?

If that's the case then I'm in real trouble...

I have an older version of Studio Vision Pro that will no longer authenticate - because I sued up all my authentications - and so i cannot get into the program to save all the files as MIDI files!

Anyone know of another program out there that will at least open SVP sequencer files?

MIDI MUSIC SCORING AND PRINTING

Direct me to a MIDI program that records and prints out musical scores. I remeber trying one on my Yamaha "Clavinova" that recorded as I played on the keyboard, that was saved, and could be printed out as a musical score on my printer.

I have and old version n. 2.5 (windows 3.1) of music notator program "ENCORE". I copied the program into my new Windows 98 computer but I can't run it, because I get following messages:
- first, "The sonata font must be installed to run encore";
- secondly, "There's not enough memory to run encore".

Is there anyone who can help me in solving these problems?

I also have an older version of Encore - in fact mine is older than yours. I installed mine onto a new PC running win 98 and it is fine. I think from the message you are getting you should have a 2nd disk (if it was on floppy like mine) which you will need to instal.

Editing of large MP3 files

I like to transfere large audio data from tape to mp3.
The transfere program works well but I like to cut unnecessary
parts at the begin and end of the mp3 files. All tested mp3 editors
I have tested failed with large files ( mp3 file size app. 60 MB).
Has somebody any experience with cutting/editing large mp3 files?

You have to download Steinberg's Wavelab software, it has a lightning speed in process of MP3 and other types of audio files, and just have some built in plug-ins so you can use them while editing them real time.
