Just got my first Record deal !

Well peepz all the hard work paid off, Just landed a
4 - 12inch record deal with a Well known Indie HOUSE label in NY........... Thanks Cubase ! Yo peepz just keep up the hard work, it will pay off !

Re: Just got my first Record deal !

LEMME BE DA FOIST TA CONGRAT YOU MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Excellent job!!!!!

20 LONG seconds to open/import files!

I have been running Cubase 4.1 on my Yosemite MAC G3 flawlessly for approximately 1 month before the above problem occurred.

20 LONG seconds pass before I am given the choices of which Cubase/audio/rex/midi files to open. What is the cause of this relatively new phenomenon, and how can I remedy the problem?

Important note: Before this problem manifested itself, I did try to translate some REX files written in DOS format to MAC format using PC/File Exchange. This method did not work, and I am somewhat convinced my current problem is related to my fiddling! What do I do now???

I have tried re-installing Cubase 4.1 and my system software to no avail. I have also run Norton Disk Doctor and Speed Disk to similar dissappointing results.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: clean out hiss and noise during LP to CD transfer?

I tried with Music jukebok and real player abnd get the same. Music juke box has tone of different settings tried them all. HELP!

Re: clean out hiss and noise during LP to CD transfer?

Sorry, I came in on the end of this topic. I am looking for software that will handle ticks and clicks on LP to CD transfers in a home system. I plan to record to minidisc then burn the CD. My LPs are in excellent condition but there are always a few ticks. Does the tick-removal software significantly change the music quality? I will transfer mostly classical which is more fidelity critical than most pop. EasyCD came with my TEAC CD-W512EB and offers an upgrade that states it will remove ticks. Any experience with this or alternate suggestions given my amateur equipment?

Steinberg Clean

Can someone help me in using this tool as I have version 1.00

I do not find anything happening when clicking on certain actions.

Re: Steinberg Clean

I've the 2nd version of Steinberg Clean. If you want this version you must give me the 1st version on e-mail (giggione_ubaldo@libero.it).
Thank you

Re: clean out hiss and noise during LP to CD transfer?

If you really wanna do an amazing job at restoration, try algometrix sound laundry, IMO much better than DART. Either way, ya need audio software which accepts DirectX plugins, Sound Forge by sonic foundry, or wavelab by steinberg are probably the best. wavelab includes a plethora of functions on its own to handle audio clean up.

Re: clean out hiss and noise during LP to CD transfer?

you could try DART (Digital Audio Restauration
Technology) oder Steinbergs' CLEAN. there also
exist numerous plug-ins to do that job.
there are several tools at

A program to mix wav or mp3

Please help me to find a program to make mixes of wav or mp3 songs.
I want it with pich control and cue botton.

Re: A program to mix wav or mp3

Yeah man, virtual turntables will let ya mix wav files, but its a bitch to operate. You want ta do a serious job with it I would suggest SF Acid. (Yeah, he says that without lookin at the 350 dollar price tag! LOL) Depends on ease and features yer lookin for, and what you intend ta do with the final product. But like I said, virtual turntables is, IMO, a TOTAL bitch to operate.

OtsJuke DJ 1.00

search for OtsJuke DJ 1.00 here at SMM.
allows you to mix MP3s.

extracting sound from wav

please help .......i need to extract JUST the bassline from a sample. is it possible ???

if you can help please do.
thanx

Re: extracting sound from wav

you could try an equalizer to filter out the high
and mid frequencies.
if you're working with soundforge you should get
the NoiseReduction tool to extract the bassline.

you could also check out this site:
http://members.tripod.com/~TroyWoodfield/akai.html
although it's primarily for akai-samplers I think
there was an article about extracting sounds
from samples.

SIBELIUS demo question...(I'm soon to get full version)

Greetings from a newbie.

I'm very impressed by the comprehensive features in the Sibelius demo I downloaded from Sibelius site.

BUT, I haven't figured out yet how to get the
staves of my choice onto the blank page (A4 or A3)
I am able to open up the demo files and templates
(e.g. big-band chart, etc),and tinker with them, but what I want to see in action is my own custom staves,
for my own instrumentation, or a page full of staves
that one could notate scales and arpeggios, for example, for students.

I only get the blank page(literally) when I start "new" so far.

I hope this question does not sound too ignorant or dumb, we all have to start somewhere!

I'm sure someone here has the answer for me.

Help A Newbie - Sound Cards & Othre Info.

Hey Guys !

I'm planning on upgrading/changing the Sound Blaster Card on my Intel based PC,
in order to start the process of digitizing my collection of (analog) Vinyl LP's.

Since I'm pretty much a newbie in the area of computer recording / mastering, I'd
appreciate any help/guidance from you guys with regards to the following ;

1. Which sound card should I buy, and what are the important features to look
for in a sound card

2. Which PC based software should I opt for, that would best suit my needs for
recording and removing of surface noise (i.e. pops, clicks etc.) ? Give me
a few choices please !

3. Would I need to make any other upgrades to the current configuration of my
PC, besides the obvious increase in RAM ? I put together my machine with the
following config. ;

Asus Motherboard
Pentium II 266 Mhz Processor
64 MB RAM (will definately be upgraded)
6.4 GB Western Digital Ultra DMA 33 Hard Disk (IDE)
Philips CD-RW Drive (IDE)

4. Should I connect the Turntable directly to the sound card or would I need to
connect the outputs of my receiver / amplifier to the sound card ?

5. Any other (overlooked) suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks !

Later....Cyril

Cyril,

hi there,

Im using a digital audio labs card d plus, It works great, i have had no problems at all with the card you can record samples up to 48k!!,

as to the question of pluggin turntable directly into sound card, i would not recommend this, in stead plug the turntable into a mixer then into the card from the outs on the mixer do not use the stereo receiver as it will send wattage to the sound card and possibly damage it.

hope this helps you out

Sounds like your computer is already well equipped for what you want to do. Even the 64 meg RAM is ok and i dont think you need to upgrade. I mean you are not doing any multitracking or serious effects processing, you will just work with stereo sound files, which a 233/ 64 meg can handle very easily. The soundcard needs to have good Analog to digital converters, this would be the most important thing to look for. These are also called A/D converters and I think good ones should be 18 bit or more. 16 bit is standard. Also look for a good signal to noise ratio (S/N ratio), this should be as high as posible. If possible the A/D conversion should take place in an external box rather than inside your computer, this eliminates lots of interference ( ie guillemot ISIS card).
Softeware: Try steinberg "Clean" or "dart pro". I think some cd burning softeware cleans as well like "spin doctor". Gotto go. email me if you got further questions. PS i've never done this before but always wanted to!!

***Cakewalk ProAudio 8.0 manual needed***

I am in need of a manual for Cakewalk's ProAudio 8.0 software. Please tell me of any sites that one is able to download it in its entirity. Also, if there is a way I can receive it by mail, even if it is only a copy, please let me know as well.

Re: ***Cakewalk ProAudio 8.0 manual needed***

Re: ***Cakewalk ProAudio 8.0 manual needed***

Spyke,
Hey man...thanks for the follow-up.
Wow...where to begin. I really do not know the first thing about this Cakewalk ProAudio 8.0. I have friends who play all sorts of instruments, I own a keyboard, and I have vocals. So how do I record the sounds onto the actual program? Is everything going to come through a microphone into Cakewalk? I need to know how to record tracks.
Look, if you have an actual manual for my software, and are willing to copy every page of it front to back....I will pay you the cost and $20. Just let me know.
Thanks.

Music Listening Software

Need to assemble many "soundclips" from the various styles of music (i.e. pop, rock, easy listening, soul,Zydeco, Classics - we can go on and on) for instant replay to classes of non-music students. The idea is perhaps akin to the way the DJ manipulates sounds over the radio airwaves. Once the soundclip has been called up, I would like to be able to isolate a tiny segment (motif) and make a loop for repeated hearings, slow motion the sound, alter echo, put the segment through various filter passes, add/substract distortion and a host of other acoustical "juggling acts." My goal is to begin building a sort of "sonic
literacy in those who are everyday music lovers, but have not desire to become formally exposed to music in any matter (take a course, play an instrument etc.) I would love to have some input, only from those however with a solid background in recording technology, acoustics and psychoacoustics and who have given some thought as to how to provide novice listeners with some
interesting listening experiences. Looking forward to your comments and suggestions. Thank you!

Re: Music Listening Software

That is a large undertaking to be sure. I am curious; are you intending to apply effects in real-time? Or do you attend to create the clips, apply effects, and then save them to a library to be recalled in class? It would also be helpful if I knew what type of effects and processing you were intending to perform, especially in reference to psychoacoustic algorythms. WaveLab or SoundForge will both allow you to play around with various effects, and there are many excellent DirectX and VST plugins available to apply effects. I would strongly suggest you investigate SoundLaundry by Algometrix as well. ReCycle by Steinberg and Wave Surgeon Advanced are excellent proggies if you want to seriously cut up soundbytes.

I hope I've helped, feel free to ask more....
