PC Audio recording

Looking for software/hardware recommendations in order to create "jam" tracks (drums, bass, rythym guitar and keyboard)for home rehearsal and development of lead guitar solos.
I will be working with a Dell Dimension system. Pentium II 350mhz processor....Turtle Beach Montego A3D PCI sound card....Windows 98

Re: PC Audio recording

I've just started using Emagic Logic with an Audiowerk 8 sound card and found it to be pretty good on a Cyrix P300. Should work even better on a PII. Only drawback is you can only record one audio track at a time, mono or stereo. Other drawback of logic is that it can be a bit of a steep learning curve but now that I've started getting the hang of it I find it's much better to work with than Cakewalk. The only good thing about Cakewalk is that it seems to be very stable and well written, but when it comes to sequencing the front end sucks. If all you want is the audio then Cakewalk might do but for seriouse sequencing I recomend Logic.

Re: PC Audio recording

i WOULD LOOK INTO CAKEWALK HOME STUDIO ITS ONLY 80 BUCKS AND CAN RECORD UP TO 4 AUDIO TRACKS, YOUR SOUND CARD MAY HAVE A GOOD SYNTH IN IT TO PLAYBACK KEYBOARD AND CAKEWALK HAS A VIRTUAL KEYBOARD YOU CAN DO BACK UP WITH ITS THE INDUSTRIES STANDARD FOR COMPOSING MUSIC, YOU CAN ALSO
SAVE AS A MIDI FILE AND JUST PRACTICE OF THE MIDI FILE ITS THE CHEAPEST AND MOST REWARDING WAY TO GO

HELP!!!!!!! My 7200i CD Burner

I have a HP 7200i cd burner which copies data cds fine but every time I try to copy music cds it produces a clicking or skipping noise every few seconds on the CDR. I have tried slowing the audio extraction down to optimal performance but that doesn't work. If anyone has any answers for my problem I would GREATLY appreciate it.
Thanks

Educational music software

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive (+-$50) software for Macintosh to help learn to recognize key signatures, notes, etc. I ran across a very old program that is played like a game. You get points when you recognize the note or key signature quickly, and you lose points when you answer slowly or incorrectly.

RMX-1 Sequence Sampler

I have a RMX-1 Sequence Sampler and was wondering what
music programm would be best suited to use in conjunction with the sampler??
And is it easy to download the tracks of the sampler on to disk, then play around with them on a particular program?

Any info at all would help...

try Xings' MP3 decoder or L3DEC. or surf to
www.mp3.com
there should be enough programs to do that job.

if nothing helps, go to altavista and type
'MP3 decoder'.

Wavesets

I know I'm ignorant, as pertains to Sounds, but I need to know what a "Waveset" is. Reason is I'm updating my ENSONIQ Audio PCI and the update, quote, "Notes: This driver update does not contain any wavesets." My current version of ENSONIQ Audio PCI is v. 4.02.1033. The version I want to download to update is Described--
"Available in this download is the latest standalone driver update for Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI (Model ES1371) on Windows 95/98. This update is meant for users who are using the version 113x series driver. This release includes updated drivers (version 4.05.1139), the Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI Mixer, and improved audio for titles that support 3D audio.

But Note: This driver update does not contain any wavesets.

Should I update?

As with all underwater equipment - the key to making it waterproof is the o-ring. Housed systems typically have 1 major O-ring between the shell halves, and one or two at the port end. (2 more if you have a port extension) These are considered the 'user accessible' ones.

Each one of the controls on the housing and the flash bulkheads are also sealed with one or more o-rings, generally considered 'not user accessible.'

Good O-ring maintenance is the key to avoiding floods. Keep them in good shape and you should have little to worry about. These means keeping them lightly lubricated and free of any hair, lint, salt crystals, or other foreign debris that might prevent a good seal.

Use freshwater rinses religiously and you can show no fear when someone asks you that popular question of "Aren't you worried about a flood?" I personally think that the housings today are extremely reliable, and that a leak is caused either by user error or poor maintenance. Having all-risk insurance on your camera is not a bad idea either.

: I downloaded that update for my Creative ENSONIQ AudioPCI, and now my games are running a lot better. The mixer software is about the same, but the driver is greatly improved. It didn't cause any problems with my computer (cured them, really), but there are always the exceptions. It's a good idea, because it makes your card run a lot better. Oh, and a waveset is the data bank of sounds that the board's synthesizer uses to make the MIDI music. There are 2MB and 4MB versions that come with it. The 4MB version has higher quality music and more instruments to choose from.

Dear Narso, where do we get these 'wavesets'? Can we download them online? and what is the procedure for installing them. - I keep getting an error msg at startup that 'midi has been disabled because computer cd not load wavesets'!?

thanks

I have been getting 40 tracks of 24bit digital audio on my 400 mhz. G3 Mac, using Cubase 4.1 VST24.
This is the hottest digital recording program out there, next to the costly Pro Tools system.
And my mixes are Master Quality Pop/Dance stuff.

Re: Which is better: Cubase, Logic Audio, CW8 or Vegas

I'm working with Cubase and I think it's pretty
simple to handle. with VST you have a wide area
of plug-ins to use for audio-tracks.

I have very little experience with Logic but I
think it has more options than Cubase, especially
if you want to do harddiscrecording.

all in all I think you should choose one of these
two programs. if you're a purist then it's simple:

you got a PC? prefer Cubase
you got a mac? then Logic is your sequencer

some people say the Logic PC version isn't tight
and Cubase doesn't work right on a mac.

Cubase VST/Rewire/Rebirth

What am I doing wrong? I can't get Rewire to open completely. All I get is the title bar that won’t allow me to expand anything. I need to open it so I can set it up properly so when I try to open Rebirth it will actually work. The manual doesn’t seem to elude to any secret tricks or potential problems with this procedure. What am I missing?

Re: Cubase VST/Rewire/Rebirth

I have no idea, but i am having the same problem please let me know if you find a solution.

Re: Cubase VST/Rewire/Rebirth

I WILL find the solution to this problem! Post your email add. and I'll send it along when I find out. If you find out before me i'm idieudie@yahoo.com Or I'll just post it here if I don't get your address.

Re: Cubase VST/Rewire/Rebirth

Hello,
when i start Reason he tells me "Cannot open Rewire 2 System. Please make sure u have the right Rewire Version installed". What does it mean? I´m looking for a download of the ReWire 2 System! Where can i find it or what can i do???? Please help me!!!

Re: Cubase VST/Rewire/Rebirth

i had the same problem,
even when uninstalling ....
but i did sort it out, this is what i done

1)uninstall all prop. software (excesive but it works)and cubase to.

2)search on your machine for rewire, rebirth, reason, recycle files and cubase.... delete all these files.(.dll's)
if u r using norton, delete all protected files from the bin to.
(norton was the prog. screwin up the uninstalls!)

3)reinstall, rebirth then reason.

4)bobs yer uncle, ;)

Amps and Stuff

I am a first-time singer/harmonica player, and I understand that I'll need my own amp and microphone. What kind of amp should I be looking out for, if I'm going to be gigging in coffeehouses and medium-size theatres? Thanks in advance, Erik

Re: Amps and Stuff

If you're looking for an amp to run your harmonica mic through, I would check out some of the Holland amps that may be available near you (www.hollandamps.com), and If you cannot find one near enough, I would recommend pick of a smaller Fender Tube amp of sorts. Maybe a 35 watt or so.

Sequenced Midi file to CD?

This may be a ridiculous question, but I've been out of the music scene for a while, and have returned to discover I don't know anything anymore about Midi and it's potential with current software and technologies.

Is is possible, given an midi synthesizer, and a computer with sequencing software, and a CD-RW drive, to take a music file that has been sequenced and place the information directly on a CD-R disk for listening enjoyment? That is to say, if I have the aforementioned items, can I produce a simple CD of my own material?

Since I don't understand how the digital information is encoded on to a CD, I am at a loss. Any information appreciated.

Re: Sequenced Midi file to CD?

Yes for live seq., midi files on cd are hassle free and high quality. What I do is record them as a wave file. Your cd burner turns that into audio for any cd player if you tell it to.
(fix midi files to perfection 1st)
(if you use your computer's synth , you have to record your final midi file to a DAT player or high quality hifi vcr tape, then record that back to your computer.
HASSLE FREE MIDI and countless advantages.
I do this in my studio for bands that sequence for stage.
Try it. Any questions, e-mail me Aavalos360@aol.com Good luck.

Yes you can do this - you have 2 options:

You can simply save your midi files on to a CD-R but you will only be able to play them back as midi files on your computer

You can convert them to Wave files and them put them on your CD-R in which case you will be able to listen to them on any CD Player
