Re: Trouble Running Cubase VST/24 Demo

The error message appears for me as well when I try to open Cubasis VST under Win XP. I would be grateful for any assistance to overcome the problem.

Im also having this problem.. but the only thing i can guess what might be the problem is that the sound card is not good enough for cubase.

Has any one figured out that error message. Im getting it too..

Singing/Voice --> MIDI?

Can someone please help me find software so that I can generate basic midi files from microphone input? I know I've seen and played with them before, but can't find them any more! :(

Try Intelliscore Voice to MIDI Converter

Intelliscore can convert voice to MIDI, as well as other converting instruments to MIDI. It works in real-time and also with WAV and MP3 files. Download their demo from http://www.intelliscore.net/

I'm interested in the Cubasis VST recording software package for recording my guitar on to my computer. What should i know about this program? What's good? What's bad? Is there anything better out there in a similar price category? I would be vry appreciative, thanks

Dan

Re: help

Hi Dan!
Cubase VST is very good software for HD & MIDI
recording. You need full duplex sound card and a
bit of experience with such a program.
You will need powerful PC to run Cubase VST.
At least 200MHz CPU with 32 preferably 64 Mb of RAM
or more. It is the real time Direct X and VST plug ins
preview that needs much processor power. You can think
of it as a set of effects that can work simultaneously
in real time (like guitar processors or pedals in early
days). You might think of this as a drawback.

On the other hand it has good looking interface,
easy to work with, it’s intuitive, has a set of
good VST effects.
Cakewalk is similar software that can work HD recording
and MIDI, and if you are not interested in MIDI you can think
of SAW - good HD recording software with its own set of effects,
but does not support Direct X nor VST technology.

Triggering .wav files with a MIDI keyboard

Is there any way to use a keyboard to trigger .wav files on the hard drive?

Re: Triggering .wav files with a MIDI keyboard

Sure, I suggest you browse through the software section of this site and download a software sampler.
That should do the trick...

Looking for tempo controling software for midi files

Hi, I hope this is a simple question for someone.
I want to use bluegrass and Irish midi files which I have downloaded to practice violin---but I want to change the beat and tempo without changing the pitch.
I recently downloaded Winamp which also has a plugin called"chronotron " just for this purpose----but no matter what I do the chronotron won`t work and I can get no reply from either software company.
Is there another simple software available which can give me this function of tempo control without changing the pitch??? please reply to my email at henrypatrick@yahoo.com .thanks for any help.Patrick

Hello,

I had the same problem with Winamp plug-ins. Even t
the one you mention. They just don't seem to work.
I'll try for a few more days and then just go for
some package that can be purchased like musician's
CD player or slow speed CD transcriber. There are
several that can be purchased.

New MIDI sounds

I've been doing a lot of music work with sequencing audio files but I have just discovered MIDI. I have an average,(but not the high quality I'd like) MIDI capable keyboard that I'm using with Cakewalk and the sound banks on a SoundBlasterLive Platinum card. My question is, is there anyway to use that keyboard simply as a controller to sequence the bad ass sounds of the expensive synths. I just spent a couple of grand on my computer and sound card and software so I can't afford the sweet synths I play with at the store.

Just sample the instruments you like into your SB-Live and jam away!
(select the SB wavetable-synth port as MIDI out)
Using Awave (shareware) you can convert any sample bank (e.g. AKAI) to SF2-banks.
With a bit of creativity and a lot of hard work there's no end to the sounds you can play using your SB-Live!

trouble w/ cakewalk 8 & 9 and my sblive

is there a way to listen to tracks youve recorded while recording another track....like a normal recording studio. i have a newer sblive. since i cant hear what ive already recorded, its pretty pointless because i cant play along with what is already there. please help =)

yea get the cakewalk power book it takes you through playback i found it good.

Re: trouble w/ cakewalk 8 & 9 and my sblive

I'm using cakewalk express instead of 8 or 9 and i also have a new sblive card. I had to search under every menu in cakewalk but i eventually found a checkbox that says "enable simultaneous playback and recording". You would think cakewalk would already have that option enabled but i guess not. You also should check your mixer and see which audio sources are enabled just to make sure. I'll try and find out where I found that menu when I get home tonight.

i already tried that and it crashes my cakewalk.

Gene,.....perhaps some more info is needed first. What is your current computer system config?Hard drive size and speed, processor make(Intel,Amd,ect..)and speed, type of RAM and amount...ect..ect...Obviously your gonna crash with a Pentium 133,a 1Gig H.D.,16 Meg of ram,and 10 tracks of audio with four different real time plug-in's while trying to record stereo guitar trax.I would't even bother without a MINIMUM of a Pentium 2 233mghz with 32 meg of ram and a 7800 rpm 13 gig hard drive.I've been using Cakewalk pro audio since version 6,and have succesfully completed 6 releases(CD's)with about any computer config as you can imagine. If your computer doesn't meet the min. req's from CKWLK,try adjusting your buffer size,# of buffers in the playback Queue, and forget the real time plug-in's,just apply effects to the tracks in the audio view-adjust to taste-and keep 'em.You can also try muting certain tracks that are not neccessary for playback during recording certain performances(ie:five tracks of background vocals, the overhead mic's on the 8 tracks of drums, both left and right signals of a guitar track).Remember this,"just because it say's you can doesn't mean you should".Cakewalk will crash when really pushed with min. req's,so save often!!!Here's another trick, try doing a sub-mix for multi-tracking.Save your song as a different file name(ie: song2,songMix2,ect...)then do the audio combine, mixdown to 2 stereo tracks. Now playback and record the new parts, then copy and paste the new track(s) to the original song in a new track location.Good luck.

Re: trouble w/ cakewalk 8 & 9 and my sblive

i have a p3 550 mhz, 512mb of ram, 15g hard drive, about 6gigs r free, and as i mentioned, a sblive. i cant even record a new track while listening to one, let alone 5 r 6. i tried recording in left, listening through the right, that doesnt even work.

Re: trouble w/ cakewalk 8 & 9 and my sblive

im not even sure what the problem is that i have. i bought a $200. platnum SB live that comes with the plug in bay and my sound card came with cakewalk gold, but in the program it says express 8 so im not sure what version i have. all i can play back is 4 mono tracks at once i can record more than 4 but i get an error when i playback that says i cant playback more than 4 and i must mute one to hear another. wich isnt what i want doing guitar overdubs and little things like that i need atleast 8.

my system, P3 900, 256 megs of ram, 2 15 gig ATA 100 drives in raid. GF2 and the platnum sound card. my machine is more than plenty to run this program and ive been told that the SB live cards should play back up to 132 wave files at once so i have to have a setting wrong somewhere or my version is a shareware version that has a limit.

there was a setting in my SB live that i could adjust from 4 wich was the default to 32 max and i set it for 10 but i still cant playback more than 4 .wav files at once.

should i record in somthing other than .wav? is that my problem?

What is LATEST version No. Cubase for Win98 PC?

I'm going shopping REAL soon, and want to get the latest version of...

** CUBASE SCORE **

since I am used to using Cubase on an Atari, and I have to get to work really soon on the new computer.

So, question as titled...
What is the latest version number of Cubase (Score) for Win98 PC?

Re: What is LATEST version No. Cubase for Win98 PC?

The latest version is Cubase VST 5.0

Re: What is LATEST version No. Cubase for Win98 PC?

its Cubase score 3.7 for PC and 4.0 for MAC

Re: LATEST version of Cubase (good, I got the right one!)

: it's Cubase score 3.7 for PC

Sweeeet, Just bought it today. My experience on earlier versions of Cubase (on an Atari) has given me a big head-start in getting it going.

want to divide one long track into several short ones! how??

I want to record my radio live recordings onto the hard disk. The problem is, that I then have got one long track. How and with what software can I divide this track into many short ones? The result should be a normal live cd where you can skip each track, but where you can also listen to the whole concert in a whole without noticing any gaps between the tracks.
any ideas???
thanks in advance

Hi!
It's easy.
1. Check your surround mixer from SBlive launcher - set it to 'Compose descktop music'/'Midi seqeuncing';
2. Record you tracks in MIDI. If you're going to use Soundfonts do not forget to assign them to each of your MIDI track.
3. When you done and happy, select next available blank track. F. e. # 15. Right click. Select track properties. In the source dialog box select 'SBlive Wave Left' (I don't have it in front of me so I can lie, but it's very close).
Select another blank track -> track properties -> source: 'Wave Right'.
4. You supposed to have now two audio tracks one for left channel, another for the right one. 'Arm'
them both (click record red button on each track).
Record you song.
5. To render (export) this audio as a stereo wav file: From tools menu select export audio.

That's it.
Wish you luck!

I use Cakewalk v6, but although it seems to have all the commamds mentioned above for v8 (export audio was under file/utils), it resolutely refuses to create any audio data. maybe this is because i dont use a keyboard but write in the notes by hand on the staff or piano roll windows (i'm lousy at actually playing, but a good composer if i may say so myself). therefor i simply loaded a song i wrote earlier instead of actually recording my midi track. then again, maybe it just doesnt work under v6. Did Raf use Cakewalk Express (the one that comes with the SBlive!), or did he upgrade?

Non-musician Composer

Even when I can't play any instrument I've written some songs and even have one of them recorded on a professional CD. My composition system is to record some sung lines, then write some lyrics, etc. It is very painful and,at last, I need musician's help for the arrangements, notation, all the technical stuff. How can I be more independent? I have heard about intelligent composition software and pitch-to-midi conversion? Are this programs good? What I can expect? What are the best ones?

Re: Non-musician Composer

: Even when I can't play any instrument I've written some songs and even have one of them recorded on a professional CD.
------------------------------
I recommend you get SEQUENCING software (for organizing *sounds*, and don't bother with *notation* for now. Avoid notation-based software (Sibelius, Notator Logic, Finale) [for now!!]

I say this, because even though you have no training or theoretical musical knowledge, you obviously have a fairly clear idea what you want your songs to sound like, melodically and harmonically.

If you are able to sing (and imagine) the sounds you want, it is not a gargantuan leap to grope around on a midi keyboard and find the sounds. With simple sequencing software, you could record the sounds (even one note at a time, layer after layer), correct mistakes, experiment, even if you don't know chord names, note names, keys, etc., All you have to do is get the SOUNDS how you want them.

CUBASE is a product which allows this sort of thing, and there is a shaved-down version "CUBASIS" which is MUCH cheaper as it does not have all the notation features (I am led to believe)... and you would not be using those features at this stage anyway. Lots of rock musicians use Cubase, because it is possible to organise your sequenced sounds without looking at notes on a music stave. My favorite editing mode in Cubase is the one where all sounds appear as lines on a graph (longer for longer notes, shorter for shorter notes...higher on the graph for higher pitch*. Everything can be edited in a click-and-drag manner). I am a classically trained musio, but still prefer to compose and create NOT looking at dots on a stave!)

I'm sure there are even simpler programs that others will surely recommend.

You could theoretically construct complete accompaniments (with different instrumental sounds, etc., then record yourself singing to complete the package. My basic point is that you may be able to create quite a detailed, accurate, professional-sounding representation of your work by using your ear and a sequencing program.

You may still have to engage someone with more theoretical knowledge to help write chord charts, or notate, (if you need to provide other musos or potential publishers with such charts) but at least you could get a lot further before you needed this help!

* Not unlike a "Pianola" player-piano roll.

All the best,

Cazz

SBLive card + cubasevst/cubasis av

Help - has anyone worked out how to do audio recording
with this set up

Problems:
Cubasis AV - right channel is grunged up, no monitoring
facilities, picking up the click...

cubase VST - no midi thru ??

Thanks xx

Re: SBLive card + cubasis vst

Everything is working fine, except I can only get one drumkit sound (the standard kit). I have tried different software, and alternative soft synths, but the same problem keeps re-occuring - please help!!!

Also, in cubasis vst when I select the score option, I get a load of rectangular boxes all over the score - there is nothing that looks like it could be a note - what's going on???

Thanks in anticipation.
