Cubase VST 24 4.1 on a G4 mac

I have a copy of cubase VST 24 4.1 for the mac. The problem i have is that i have a USB midi interface (The midiman Midisport 2x2) that requires opcodes OMS to operate. I have no problem with OMS except that once i have installed the Interface and OMS - Everytime i load VST the system crashes and i have to restart.
When i first got VST it wouldn't load at all because i needed the USB floppy enabler updater from the Steinberg web site. This corrects a a problem VST had when working on a G4.
The problem is that i can install the Midi interface and OMS and everything is working fine, however whenever i try VST my system crashes.
Please help.

Re: Cubase VST 24 4.1 on a G4 mac

I had the same problem on my G4. Make sure you're using the latest OMS driver and any other periferals you have on your computer should be upgraded. I also loaded OS 9 and found eveything thing to be much more stable. Also, create a start up set that you use when you want to use Cubase. Disable everything that has nothing to do with the program including the items laid out in the set up section of the owners manual.

help!! cakewalk 9.0 is eating my CPU!!

has anyone else noticed that cakewalk pro audio
9.0 is a cpu hog? When I have cakewalk and cubase
vst24 3.7 playing the same midi and same audio, cubase uses
about 30% of the cpu and cakewalk uses about 95%!! I have
followed the cakewalk suggestions in their help file
and have tweaked everything imaginable to me but nothing
gets that cpu usage down. Any ideas?

Re: help!! cakewalk 9.0 is eating my CPU!!

Brian,

There are some windows tweaking tips you can try to help get better use of
your memory. I saw your email and it looked like you needed some help, so I
am sending this directly to you..... Most of this is posted on the msg
board....

Upgrade you BIOS and RAM, I use Cooledit Pro, just starting with Cakewalk,
Yamaha S80 software, and Anvil Studio, as well as many other intensive
Graphics and Video Pgms.

I have 384 MB of ram, and NVIDEO GeForce Card with 64 MB of RAN Video, and
512 cache. I would suggest that you upgrade your ram for your system and
for your video to get better results, as cakewalk is an intense memory
eating hog. PC100 ram is cheap you can get 128 MB now for just $39 from
http://www.crucial.com, and you can for the same price get a stick of 256 MB
-8 nanoseconds, PC100 ram for the same price, IF your system can handle it.
Call a sales rep and they can help you decide what ram you need, and just
how much your system can take. They can be reached at: 1-888-363-4167.
This is MICRON RAM the BEST in the world, and it has an unconditional
lifetime money back guarantee. (NO I don't work for them.:))

He will ask you how much ram you have, what motherboard you have, BIOS,
whether you have SIMMS(white slots) or DIMMS(brown slots), the nanoseconds
rating, the number printed on your ram by the -8 would be 8 nanoseconds
speed, if it is SDRAM, or parity or non-parity...etc...

1st right click on c:\ drive to determine what size it is. If you have 2
drives, the main one will default to BOTH drives.

1. Set a Custom Swap file. Right click on My Computer, Properties, then
Performance.

2. Click on the right bottom tab, virtual memory.
and click on the middle radio button, Let me specify my own virutual memory
settings. In the middle selection boxes it shows the hard disk minimum and
maximum settings. For example if you have an 8 gb hard drive the minimum
setting will be 250, and the maximum setting will be 400. Use these numbers
as a template to figure out your own hard drive settings. So if you have a
16 GB HD, it would be 500 min, and 800 max, and so on.

3. Set your PC as a network server, NOT a desktop PC. It addresses memory
much faster with this setting. Do this by clicking on My Computer,
Properties, then Performance. (If you closed the window and it asked you to
reboot, hold on and reply NO then click on the bottom left tab, File System
and use the drop down box to select Network Server, from Desktop Computer.

Click ok, and when prompted, reboot.

4. Lastly, another good trick that can speed up your PC is to DELETE
Unecessary Start up pgms.

This is accomplished by clicking on start, find, files and folders, and in
the search window type INFORMATION. At the top of your search will be
System Information, right click on it and create a shortcut for your desktop
when asked.

Click on the shortcut and open up the MS System Information Window. Next
Click on Tools, then System Configuration Utility. Next click on the
Startup tab located at the top right.

Other than your Virus program and updates leave them be, you should only
have any other programs that you wish to have start up when windows starts
up, but remember the MORE you have selected, the LESS resources that are
available to windows.

You should have at the minimum selected in this window:

1. Scan Registry
2. System Tray
3. Load Power Profile
4. Any other Pgms that you really need to be in startup i.e. virus pgms etc.

Now click on the General tab and make sure that
Selective Startup has been selected, and NOT
Normal startup. Normal Startup loads ALL the device drivers and software.
You do NOT need this, because each program you use AUTOMATICALLY ALLOCATES
what it needs and what drivers it needs AS it needs them.

Click OK and you will be prompted to reboot.

There are other WINDOWS fixes available for you to try These pgms are
available on the net, and are called WINFIX, and WINTUNE.

Oh btw before you do any of these fixes, Right Click My Computer,
Properties, then Performance.

Click on the Properties Tab to see what % windows is running at before and
after you do these tweaks. Most people start at around 78-82% and
afterwords are up around %88-94 when the fixes have been added.

I hope this Helps and please let me know if it did or not K?.

Re: help!! cakewalk 9.0 is eating my CPU!!

Brain that fucking sucks man i really feel for you deep down inside my self (psych) i dont really care about your pc only mine and one day i will rule the world!! hahahahahahahahahaha!!

I mean so

Brian, I think so.
And I mean Cake9 is more CPU eatable then Cake8.
Enabling or disabling the "greatly praised" WavePipe
gives nothing - sometimes it seems to be a fiction!!!
Moreover, in Cake8 I didn't use wave out position
for timing - for more correctly sync. Cake9 doesn't
play properly without usung "wave out pos".
About Cake Help tips: I think most of them are necessary
for HDD optimization. So, if you have good HDD perfomance
and HDD isn't a "weak point" in your system - this
Help can't help you ;).
If you'll know something about this problem, please let me know.
Now then I read at newsboards about people who
says that Cake9 is a great step in perfomance, and
they use 20 24-bit tracks with a lot of Plug-Ins...
I feel like a FOOL!!! %(

A BRILLIANT CHANCE

A BRILLIANT CHANCE.(Some people say that this sort of ad is very bad. I say look at all the rubbish that is already on the net! YOU decide) First I'm going to tell you that I'm not going to make any financial gain from this advert. Now I'm going to tell you that I couldn't believe it when my brother told me how much made in only six weeks. He told me that his good fortune had been all through an advert that he chanced on whilst browsing through some newsgroups that required an initial investment of only $6.00! So I thought, "He has to be pulling my leg, this must be a joke", but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you have to send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and address stated in the article. You then place your own name and address, including your country, at the bottom of the list at #6, and post the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands) Straight up, that was it. So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I thought that I would give it a go. After all, $6.00 wasn't going to break my bank: So I decided to invest the measly $6.00. Well GUESS WHAT!! Within 7 days, I started getting money through the mail! I was so surprised! I thought that it would have to end soon, but the money just kept arriving. In my first week, I made about $25.00. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over $1,000.00! In the third week I had over $10,000.00 and it's still growing. This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it's still coming in, rapidly. It's certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps, I have spent more than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, why it works. Also, make sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so that you can refer to it when necessary. I promise you that if you follow the directions exactly, you will start making more money than you thought possible by doing something so easy! SUGGESTION: Read this entire message carefully! (Print it out or download it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come in! It's easy. It's legal. And, your investment is only $6.00 (Plus postage)and I still can't believe it. IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is not illegal; and it is virtually no risk - it really works!!!! If all of the following instructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary dividends. PLEASE NOTE: Please follow these directions EXACTLY, and $50,000 or more can be yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants. Please continue its success by carefully adhering to the instructions. You will now become part of the Mail Order business. -NOT CHAIN MAIL-. In this business your product is not solid and tangible, it's a service. You are in the business of developing Mailing Lists. You are in actual fact a self employed business person so get your act together andshow everyone what you knew you already had.
Many large corporations are happy to pay enormous quantities of money, and take advantage of us, for these sorts of quality lists. However, the money made from the mailing lists is secondary to the income which, is made from people like you and I asking to be included in that list. Here are the 4 easy steps to success: STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on each piece of paper "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST!" Now get 6 US $1.00 bills (if you live outside the U.S you can aquire U.S Dollars in your bank or in a suitable tavel agent) and place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so that the bill will not be seen through the envelope (to prevent theft). Next, place one paper, stating your name and address or e-mail, in each of the 6 envelopes and then seal them. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating the above phras, and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for it! Like most of us I was a little sceptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed legal! Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses:.*1) Zack Wilkinson 11815 Alden Rd. APT#204, Jacksonville, Fl 32246.U.S.A *2) Joshua Dartez 4811 Anchor Dr, New Iberia, LA 70560 U.S.A *3) Travis Broguiere 4416 boise ct Vancover, WA 98661. U:S:A *4) Ryan Spear 7617 Lincoln Ave. Evansville, IN 47715. U.S.A *5)Aran Tewley 105 Wigston Lane,Aylestone,Leicester.LE2 8TJ. England *6)John Walsh 154-B Escalera Drcha 7º Drch, 41005 Seville. Spain. STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc...) and add YOUR NAME as number 6 on the list. STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as close to original as possible. Now, post your amended article to at least 200 newsgroups. (I think there are close to 24,000 groups) All you need is 200, but remember, the more that you post, the more money you make! This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer to Title 18 Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the Postal lottery laws. Keep a copy of these steps for yourself and, whenever you need money, use it again, and again. PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants and by their carefully adhering to the directions. Look at it this way, if you are a person of integrity, the program will continue and the money that so many others have received will come your way. NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to you, either on a computer or hard copy. It would also be a good idea to keep the notes that people send to you. This VERIFIES that you are truly providing a service. (It might also be a good idea to wrap the $1 bill in dark paper or better put it in a brown envelope to reduce the risk of mail theft.) So, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed, six members will be reimbursed for their participation as a List Developer with one dollar each. Your name will move up the list geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 position you will be receiving thousands of dollars in CASH!!! What an opportunity for only $6.00 ($1.00 for each of the first six people listed above) Send it now, add your own name to the list and you are in business!!! DIRECTIONS FOR HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS: STEP 1: You do not need to re-type this entire letter to do your own posting. Simply put your cursor at the beginning of this letter and drag your cursor to the bottom of this document, and select 'copy' from the edit menu. This will copy the entire letter into the computer's memory. STEP 2: Open a blank 'notepad' file and place your cursor at the top of the blank page. From the 'edit' menu select 'paste'. This will paste a copy of the letter into notepad so that you can add your name to the list. STEP 3: Save your new notepad file as a text file. If you want to do your postings in different settings, you'll always have this file to go back to. STEP 4: Use Netscape or Internet explorer and try searching for various newsgroups (on-line forums, message boards, chat sites, discussions.) STEP 5: Visit these message boards and post this article as a new message by highlighting the text of this letter and selecting paste from the edit menu. Fill in the Subject, this will be the header that everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a particular group, click the post message button. You're done with your first one! Congratulations...THAT'S IT! All you have to do is jump to different newsgroups and post away, after you get the hang of it, it will take about 30 seconds for each newsgroup! **REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL MAKE!! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200** That's it! You will begin receiving money from around the world within days! You may eventually want to rent a P.O. Box due to the large amounts coming to you!
Some people say that this sort of ad is very bad. I say look at all the rubbish that is already on the net! YOU decide.

Sounds from PC to tape-recorder (easiest way) ???

I would like to be able to transfer sounds I have
listened to on my computer e.g. ra files, onto cassette for further listening later away from the computer.

What is the easiest way to connect the two?

Ehat sort of lead do I need and where do I plug it in?

Re: Sounds from PC to tape-recorder (easiest way) ???

What about vice versa? LOL (Just to be difficult)If I have audio cassettes I want transferred to CD.....do I just plug it in????to my sound card orifices and go from there?

You got a soundcard with a stereo line out jack in the back?

Goto Radio Shack or equivalent, buy a mini 1/8th" stereo(TRS)to RCA(male)jack. If your line out on the soundcard isn't "hot" enough, use the speaker jack, just be sure to watch your levels on the cassette deck.

but is there any software out there u can get to do this without going threw the speaker jack

Re: Sounds from PC to tape-recorder (managed to do it)

Thanks, Mykull.

I managed with an RCA plugged into the speaker receiver on the back of the PC. I don't think it was stereo, but for this purpose, that didn't matter.

Dear musician

I have just seen your post, and I would like your help please.

I am using the 8 Port/SE as my MIDI interface since 1996.

I just bought a new computer and Opcode's windows 95 Driver is not working with the windows 98 32 bit demands. can you please tell me where I may download the new updated driver? I have tried the web site of Opcode, it does not seem that anybody is home there.....

Gil,You gotta load in the port settings for your 8 port/SE with the driver install disk given to you by Opcode.A word of warning, the original drivers I got on a floppy with my 8 port/se 2 years ago really screwed with my printer port settings. The fix, download the newest drivers from Opcode, and be sure that you see the 8 port/Se profile on you printer port profile page.I'm not sure what the "dilly-o" is with your switch box,but to be safe, remove it and plug the 8 port/se directly into your printer port on the back of your PC.

Re: problems with 8port by Music Quest

I got the NT driver to work with XP. You have to make sure that there is no IRQ conflicts (IRQ7).
I have not installed it on my main PC so I might end up with the same problems. I read that NTFS is not good for music production...anyone read any of those articles?

Re: problems with 8port by Music Quest

I had to uninstall everything and fdisk. I then moved all hardware on PCI slots. Installed NT and 8port drivers (NT)IRQ7 and Card D+ (Has the choice NONE for IRQ) and DSL modem IRQ 10. I then upgraded to 2000pro, then XP PRO. Everything works but midi lags at the beginning of the measures...could be the NT driver, could be NTFS. If there is a tweak in the software (buffers, etc.) I haven't yet found the fix.

Well, It wouldn't work on my main PC. I'm getting a possible BIOS conflict message. I didn't install NT or 2000 first (Perhaps there is something in one of those installations that remains as you upgrade to XP).

: Gil,You gotta load in the port settings for your 8 port/SE with the driver install disk given to you by Opcode.A word of warning, the original drivers I got on a floppy with my 8 port/se 2 years ago really screwed with my printer port settings.

Take action!!! Tell everyone you know.. both on and offline.. .not to deal with any opcode products!!! (and make sure you contact opcode that you're doing this and why).

They need to know that they're causing themselves a bad reputation and that it WILL hurt their business!! The net is a wonderful way of spreading information. If they don't support their older products now how can anyone trust them to support their new products in a couple of years???

Who has the 2port driver??

Can someone tell me where to find the 2port driver for windows95 or 98 by music quest please. Someone said he had it but it's so confusing I don't know who said it.

Thanks
Elly

I managed to get through to OpCode, and was told that while the 1.62 version of the driver works on Win98, it does not work with windows 98 2nd edition or ME. Does anyone know different?

Re: problems with 8port by Music Quest

I'd REALLY appreciate it if someone would also send me those drivers. OpCode are NOT replying to any requests and no drivers for the 8Port/SE are available on their website (that I can see).

Thanks!
