If you're on a PC, nothing beats AudioMulch. BUT it requires VST plug-ins...so start collecting.

That won't help, since it just goes to Opcode's site anyway. Try again.

*.wav files in Cubase - no sound!"

With my Cubase VST (Standard), even though I can import .wav files & open them, I can hear no sound. Can you help me, please?

Re: *.wav files in Cubase - no sound!"

open master track and click on sound card option at bottom.also run and check asio drivers.
cheers

Re: *.wav files in Cubase - no sound!"

Also, just for giggles, make sure that "disable audio" isn't checked in your "system" menu.

Re: *.wav files in Cubase - no sound!"

: With my Cubase VST (Standard), even though I can import .wav files & open them, I can hear no sound. Can you help me, please?

Are they standard 16 bit .wavs? If not, you've got to convert them before importing them into Cubase.
Since you've opened them, I assume they're on an audio track. What does your Cubase monitor say? Are your volume levels properly adjusted?
I've discovered that due to the "panning law" in the system menu, imported .wavs lose volume. Try to either re-normalize the volumes in Cubase (Processing menu) or to turn the panning law control in System down to 0 (zero).

Hope this helps,

Jim

Boycott ReBirth and Reason

I'm a user of SynCModular and of Cubase (i've been a user of Cubase since 1989).
When asking some technical questions regarding recording SynCModular devices from within Cubase, I was informed by Dr. Sync that Propellorheads Software would not give his company the rights to use ReWire technology. He said that Propellorheads refuses to give the code to anyone but "major" software developers.
This is a big issue to Cubase users...we invest a lot of time and money into building up the ideal audio working environment. There are enough software and hardware issues involved with getting the whole shebang working correctly without running into this kind of obstacle.
First of all, was Propellorheads ALWAYS a "major" software developer?
Secondly, the best thing about Cubase is that it has embraced the "open" plug-in model, i.e., that anyone can develop plug-ins for use within Cubase. This allows users a great deal of flexibility. It's just flat out WRONG for any software developer to contravene this model unilaterally. This defeats one of the main selling points of Cubase.
Third, if they were both U.S. based companies the answer would be simple. Propellorheads is acting in restraint of free trade, and such a decision, in my opinion, is most probably illegal. A good lawyer would eat them for breakfast. In any case, such a decision is unethical.
I'm well and truly pissed...and here's why I think you should be as well.
When registered users purchased the license for Cubase, we purchased the license for Cubase...not Propellorheads' software. Although Cubase's aim is to allow third party developers to develop software for VST, with a program like ReWire sitting smack in the middle of of the audio path, this is not going to happen, unless you purchase specific devices from specific vendors. In short, the ReWire technology as implemented reduces the functionality of the Cubase program.
This means that if some guy (or woman) in Duluth develops a truly kick-ass software synth that uses the VST plug-in architecture, no matter how good it is, unless Propellorheads OKs it YOU CAN'T USE IT IN CUBASE AS STEINBERG INTENDED YOU TO.
I'm afraid that Propellorheads is denying licenses in favor of their own (much delayed) Reason software synth, or that they have sweetheart deals with one or more other "major" software developers (like all these companies weren't just a couple of folks writing code in their bedrooms just a short while ago).
I'd urge anyone who cares to boycott Propellorheads' software (ReBirth, Reason) and to write to Steinberg asking why they are distributing a third-party's software that reduces the functionality of Cubase VST.

Re: Boycott ReBirth--I Agree...Go FRUITY LOOPZ!!

I Agree...I Hate Rebirth N-E Wayz. Fruit Loops 2.5 Is A MUCH Better Program N-E Ways. Itz Blowing Everything Out Of The Water.

Digital Era.

FRUITY LOOPZ My ass, get outta here.

: : : Ok, listen up ladies. Maybe you might spend hundreds of dollars setting up your "software studio", but first, i would do some "research" before i spent my "hundreds of dollars". Personally, i have never heard of SynCMaster, or watever it's called, so naturally it won't be supported by many companies. Another thing, perhaps Rebirth is very confining, and maybe fruityloops is better, but it all depends on what you want in your track. Now listen up: WHO CARES!! Complaining here wont do you no good, and boycotting the product wont do any good either, because you all seem to sound like you already own the product, and the only person i have ever met that owns SynCmaster is you my friend, and you aint that special. Perhaps posting in the forums all over the web would help, and writing a more convincing persuasive essay might help to(one that is less confusing).

And boycotting reason, have you even tried it?? It kicks fruityloops ass to hell. But i never said fruityloops dosent suck, just for some things it does.

Rebirth BITES...Deal With It I Have Both, And Fruity Loops 2.5 Is MUCH More Bang 4 Tha Buck, With More Versatility, Options, And All Around Workability...And Rebirth Is Just REBIRTH...Itz Been Around A Long Time And All, But 2.5 Just Put It Out Of Itz Misery...lol

reasonT

gotta be jokin....
you guys cant have used reason yet...soo fulkly featured.....who needs all that old hardware anyways?....go host

Re: Rebirth=Better Options...Listen and learn....

But look how long it has been around and it is still the Don.
Just Put It Out Of Itz Misery.

For all you kids who first heard a resonant filter sweep on ReBirth...well, the 303 and 808 were terrible instruments in the 80s. Just like the MiniMoog was a shorthand version, the 808 and 303 were shorthand versions of much better instruments. You could pick 'em up in pawn shops for under $100 apiece. When folks re-discovered them and started using them and their digital avatars in early techno /industrial /dance music, it was a "funny one time" kind of thing
Now it's just old and tired.
The new generation of digital/analog emulations are so much better and so much more flexible that I can't imagine anyone but the terminally unimaginative using ReBirth. With a sequencer and a handful of freeware and cheap shareware the creative vistas are almost limitless. Tools like Hubi's MIDI Loopback Device make it pretty easy to link up various devices.
If you want to fork over the big bucks there's Reaktor.
But check this out:
SimSynth2...shareware sequencer synth...2 osc, assignable filter, big effects implementation...I think it's about $49. Sounds a lot better than ReBirth.
SynCModular...shareware modular synth...too smart and hard to use for most folks, but if you buy it, users have built about 15 majorly usable synths, from a DX7 emulation to wacked out Karplus-Strong drone machines that you can download for FREE. VST compatible (would be more so if ReWire wasn't in the way). $49.
AudioMulch-live performance-oriented modular weird thing- one of the best and most innovative pieces of software you'll ever see. Unlimited loop players, sample drum machine, bass sequencer, tons of mixers, tons of internal effects, uses most VST plug-ins, automated mixing and effects processing...just get it. $50.
SynthEdit...FREEWARE modular synth...baby cousin of Reaktor and SynCModular.
Visual Orangator...FREEWARE synth, sequencer, sample player.
There's lots more.
Propellorheads just counts on peoples' ignorance to thrive and you're a victim if you don't check out the competition.

Props kick all your asses

First off, Props have no say in licenseing VST plug-ins for cubase, nor does ReWire interfere with or slow down Cubase functions in any way (maybe your computer just sucks?). Rebirth is a great product, I don' t know how you think it sounds like shit, just make your own mod if you don't like the drums. Besides, ReBirth is not supposed to be a complete solution anways. It's supposed to be a 303, 808 and 909, which, btw, are awsome and great for acid trance. And FruityLoops isn't even the same type of program that ReBirth is supposed to be, so it's an apples and oranges compairson. ReBirth isn't for producing tracks by itself (although you can). Reason is better than anything i've ever seen, ever. That includes Fruityloops. My only problem is price, but 10 or however many guys in Sweden make this stuff and distribute it worldwide. So for the technology, the functionality, and availibility, you more than get what you pay for.

Re: Props kick all your asses

first of all i have not heard the sound of reason, but based on my experience with rebirth i am sure that it is a kick ass product
i have been using rebirth for at least a year.
alot of people say it is cold sounding ...

i am sure it is common knowledge that you can export wav files of the various layers and post process them in a multitrack program like cool edit ... its what i do and i have been happy with the results ...
as far as being anti competitive or what ever, i would hope they change their attitude soon,
i am looking forward to trying reason.

SOUND RECORDER FOR MACINTOSH

Hi. I used to have this on my iMac and someone accidentally deleted it. I need to get it back but I've forgotten the website I got it from. It's a free download called simply "Sound Recorder" and you can record from CDs with it, as well as using your own voice. If anyone knows where I can go to re-download it, please advise by email. Thanks.

Just wondering if anyone has a clue about burning CD's with the Spressa USB. I'm recording at 2X and 4X and the burn is complete but will not work on CD players outside of my Imac. Any ideas? I've maintained my harddrive and can't get through to tech support?
